“Legends are are material to be moulded, and not facts to be recorded.”(Brainy) My legend is “The Devil’s Dyke” is a legend about a demon who was killed by a chief with the help of the water god, so the demon couldn’t take his daughter as his wife. This legend is similar to The Hound of the Baskervilles legend where a woman had an affair and the husband got extremely irate and locked her away so she climbed down the tower and when he found her empty cage he went after her with the hounds, and when his found them, there was a substantial hound standing over their bodies devouring them. Even though legends have many similar qualities, there are also many differences as witnessed in “The Devil's Dyke” and The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The Odyssey is an epic poem written by homer that tells the story of the long travel of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his men. Odysseus and his men encountered a lot of bumps along the road until Odysseus finally makes it home from the Trojan War. They face cyclops, gods, goddesses, sirens, and many more characters. In the film O Brother Where Art Thou? Directed by Ethan and Joel Coen, takes place in the 1930s where Ulysses, Demer, and Pete escape prison in search of a treasure in which they encounter a blind railroad worker, a one eyed man named Big Dan, and many more interesting characters. These two plots contains many similarities from the name of the main character to the experiences the men find themselves in.
Published in the 8th century B.C.E and 1997 respectively, both The Odyssey by Homer and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling are universally known arts of literature. The Hero’s Journey is a commonly used trope incorporated in numerous amounts of tales. This trope involves a hero who goes on a journey, finds himself in a crisis, defeats his enemies, and comes home changed. Harry Potter, the main character in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, encounters many conflicts and meets helpful mentors on his adventure. Similarly, Odysseus, the main character in The Odyssey, encounters various monsters and obstacles, too. Both Harry Potter and the
In the story (Homer's Odyssey) and the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou,” there are some similarities and differences. Some versions of the text are more compelling.
The Odyssey and O Brother Where Art Thou are very similar, yet there are numerous differences between the story by homer and the motion picture. In the introduction for The Odyssey, Odysseus is on his way back to his kingdom from war. In the introduction for O Brother Where Art Thou Everette and his men are escaping from their “prison” and on their way to the town where Everette’s family is, but Everette lied to Pete and Delmar and told them that they were going to get gold just to get them to agree to leave with him because they were chained together.
COME ON BOYS - NOW! WE'RE GOIN' FOR THE RECORD-THREE BANKS IN TWO HOURS!” George Nelson is a bank robber and an interesting element added in to help move Everett, Pete, and Delmer further along on their journey. The journey they make in O’Brother, Where Art Thou is meant to be similar to the Odyssey. Authors Ethan and Jole Coen wrote O Brother, Where Art Thou?
One morning a band of three brothers awaken from a night of mischievous activities, but only two stand up to find the last’ clothes on the ground with their owner nowhere in sight. They then see movement from the shirt moving up to the neck, then a frog appears in place of the last brother’s body! This occurred after the day the brothers were entranced by three sirens. Similar to Homer’s “The Odyssey,” “O Brother Where Art Thou” has many events that relate the Odysseus and his adventure.
In different stories, some things will be different. Some things may be left out. This can be seen when reading The Odyssey and watching O Brother, Where Art Thou?. It can also be seen when reading “Atwood”.
Oh Brother Where Art Thou was an interesting, entertaining comparison to the epic poem The Odyssey. Although both stories provide many comparisons, between the main objective of both stories, for the main character to get back to his family in his hometown and overall plot comparisons, both stories contrasted each other in a multitude of ways. Both stories are similar in many different ways. In both stories, the main characters both are on the same essential mission throughout the story; to make it home to his wife and child(ren).
The Odyssey is a story written by Homer while Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? is directed and written by Joel and Ethan Coen. Besides the fact that one is a written poem and the other is a film there are other differences between the two. There are similarities as well, many actually. The two focus on the same concept just in different time periods.
In any murder the main question asked is,“what was the motive”. The enticement to kill is a key to truly understanding a murder. Similarly, in fine arts understanding a character motivation or reason to do something is an essential part of comprehending a character's fowl actions in full. In the book the Odyssey and the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? the characters motivations reveal the reasoning behind their actions.
In both Homer's The Odyssey and Sophocles' Antigone, the concept of glory is explored through opposing perspectives, revealing conflict between individual integrity and societal authority. While Odysseus pursues glory through adherence to divine will and the fulfillment of prophecies, Antigone champions a vision of honor rooted in personal integrity and familial duty, all while challenging social norms. Also in Antigone, Creon offers an authoritarian view on glory that prioritizes obedience to the government authorities and the preservation of social orders. Through the characters' actions and dialogue, both texts offer different reflections on the different natures of glory and the dilemmas encountered in its pursuit. In The Odyssey, Homer
The example of the Rodgers from And Then There Were None and the Barrymores from The Hound of the Baskervilles exemplifies one of the most apparent connections between the characters in the novels. Because of their positions in the stories as butlers/maids for the more significant and wealthy characters, they also fill the positions of the lower class citizens in both stories. Their primary roles in the stories pertain solely to looking over the higher class citizens. This remains an exceedingly formal job throughout the books due to the time and place of both. The Rodger’s and the Barrymore’s associations with the other characters were affected because of this. The couple’s jobs consisting of putting others needs above their own automatically
A theme is a specific reason that something is happening in a book or a movie. A theme is also in real life. A theme in real life could be you doing something for a specific reason over and over again. The two classic stories of Romeo and Juliet and The Odyssey may at first seem very different. One is Ancient Greek and the other is the late 1500’s. One of these stories is more of a hero’s journey while one is more of a love story between star crossed lovers. The themes between The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet are very similar. The three themes are Loyalty, Love, and Strength. The first theme that is similar between these two books is Loyalty.
