“The American Dream”, a national phrase in which is mainly phrased by those who pursue the goal of living a better life. All of this is merely an illusion, there is no such thing as “The American Dream”. It is just a big hypocrisy in America and will not change the fact that everyone will still be labeled in a social class depending on the money they make. “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald and “The Big Short” directed by Adam McKay are a great example of the dilemma occurring during this saying. Business particularly being restaurants, do not always succeed. When you see a restaurant owned by a lower class family or race, the discrimination of it being dirty, nasty or any other related ideas come to mind. Which leads to not earning enough business, not making money, losing the business, then possibly going bankrupt and in return becoming homeless. The dream is just created not to have others start their own dreams, but work for the dreams of the higher class and help them increase their wage. Tom is furious about Daisy having an affair, but the double standard being he is doing the same to her for some time now with Myrtle. When Nick, Tom, Gatsby, Daisy and Jordan are on their way to town Myrtle sees Jordan in the car with Tom when they had stopped for gas and automatically assumes that is his wife. She immediately becomes jealous of Jordan. I see no point in any of them being jealous or angry with one another because Myrtle has a great husband, but does not want to be with him because he is poor.
