Since zippers were not invented in the 14th century, men and women would use buttons and lace to secure their clothing. Some documents even state that women would be sewn into their clothes because the fashion was to wear tight fitted clothes.
(left) Dresses would be long and dragged on the floor to show wealth. They would include lots of embroidery and were usually made of satin. (right) AS show on Juliet’s original dress, her sleeves include a lot of embroidery such as the beading.
Have you ever wondered what people in the Elizabethan Era wore? Fashion was just as important in those days as it is to some people today. What people were wearing mattered to others, and even the government. During the Elizabethan Era clothing, accessories, and cosmetics were all a part of daily life.
Make up: the cupids bow lips, heavily rouged cheeks and kohl shadowed eyes—safer make ups—used more often. Evening Dress Shoes: pointy toes.
Romeo and juliet is very similar to the story “Pyramus and Thisbe” because the theme was nothing can keep love apart. Watching some of my favorite youtubers, and seeing shows backs up this statement because they will fly to far places and will not care about the expenses, or anything that will provide an obstacle because they are inseparable with their love for each other.
Here, in the famous balcony scene, Romeo and Juliet expose their love to each other, and at Juliet suggestion, they plan to marry.
Juliet Capulet, 14, passed away Thursday, July 18th 1578. Juliet was born in Verona and was the only child/daughter of lord and lady Capulet. She lived a privileged and extravagant life in the Capulet home. She was raised by the Capulet's nurse, who acted as her own mother. Juliet trusted the nurse until she started to speak poorly about Romeo Montague. Juliet last days were surrounded by controversy. Friar Lawrence revealed that Juliet had been secretly married to Romeo leaving her in the position of being engaged to Paris but married to Romeo when she died. Juliet was pronounced dead the previous day, from the potion Friar gave her, and a funeral service was held for her. Later, she was found in the Capulet's vault with Romeo's dagger in
Romeo and Juliet and the book Night are different, and also the same in many ways. There are a few obvious reasons they are similar and reasons they aren't. Here is a few different ways they were different.
Romeo- Romeo’s clothing was exceptionally similar to that of his father's. His high ranking allowed him to wear almost any clothes that he wanted. The style of “slashing” was common among the high class. This allowed for the colors of clothing worn below to contrast against the outer clothing. A plethora of exotic materials were worn by Romeo. From velvet to silk, he was allowed to wear it all. His clothing had multiple elaborate designs all over. The colors that he wore were similar to his father's. Gold and silver were the main colors worn by him.
In the movie Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrmann, the clothing each character wore, really meant something. The character I will be focusing on will be Mercutio. The biggest thing my character represented was a drag queen. The reason is because of his clothing. The clothes symbolised 2 main things.
Juliet’s outfit in Romeo and Juliet symbolises that she is the angel that Romeo was looking for. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet wears an angel costume for the masquerade party. The outfit symbolises that Juliet is beautiful, and that she is an angel, and also represents that she is pure, kind, and young. You can see this because she never seems to act out, and is always kind. When Romeo enters the party, he sees Juliet and falls in love.
Can someone's interactions with others lead to multiple people's deaths? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo is a romantic who obsesses over a girl named Juliet. Juliet is a 13-year-old girl who is more practical than Romeo and loves Romeo very much. This love will lead to them facing huge amounts of problems. Romeo and Juliet are similar and different in how they interact with each other, how they act around others, and how they talk to other people.
The motif of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is love vs hate. There are a lot of hyperboles in the text to help decide what the motif is. The reason that this is the motif is because the story is about to star crossed lovers and there houses hate each other.
The weather in England was harsh, resulting in the need to wear many layers of clothing. The monarch, the nobility, the gentry, merchants, yeomanry, and laborers wore a chemise under all of their clothes, then a corset (stiffened with wood, iron, or whalebone), then a petticoat, then a farthingale, stockings, a gown, sleeves, and neck and wrist ruffs(Elizabethan Clothing). A farthingale and ruffs were the statement making pieces of a high fashion outfit belonging to anyone close ranked to a queen. A farthingale was a hooped skirt made of whalebone or wood, used to give the gowns their “cupcake” look, the women believed that the bigger the farthingale the more rich and powerful the woman was. The farthingale was draped with fabric and was the most seen part of a gown, therefore, it had to be detailed uniquely with braiding, borders, embroidery, lace, guarding (ribbon trim), and gems or pearls.
Since Juliet is a Capulet, her costume shows her status in the community as well-respected and wealthy, but in a modest manner as represented with the modern theme. Her costume expresses her beauty in a romantic and girly way, in a simplistic manner, appropriate for modern time. She is very modest and not like any Capulet. She is very open-hearted even towards her opposing house, the Montagues. Therefore, Juliet’s costume appropriately reveals the setting we chose, modern time, by wearing casual sneakers, black jeans, a red v-necked sweater to represent her belonging to the Capulets, and a rose to match her costume to overall represent her sweet, innocent, young, and romantic personality. Additionally, since the servant works for the higher power/class family, the Capulets, her costume must show the status in the
Romeo and Juliet shows the best example of the quote "Character is what you are in the dark." Romeo and Juliet show'd that their character is a reflection of them on the inside. They were in the dark, no one could see they're physical attributes and wasn't influenced by outward appearance. Instead, they see the real Romeo and Juliet . In other words, its like saying "don't judge a book by its cover." Character has nothing to do with outward appearance.
I did not sign up to this! I signed up for acting; nevertheless, there I was doing costume design instead of acting. I was irate, I had been cheated of my monologue slot, and I had been served the scraps of events. Costume Design, no one wants to design costumes. I read the stupid musical, I did not understand it at all, and this is 80% of my grade. However, I had to start somewhere so I began to read the musical. AIDA was Romeo and Juliet on steroids. The main characters were unrealistic however Amneris was different. When I first started to read the musical she was just a spoiled princess then she began to evolve and becomes a powerful queen worthy of respect. I admired her she was not what everyone excepted her to be; she was more just
