When discovering the vaphio cup (fig.4.29), I would be amazing that how the design and crafting with gold make it look delicate. With a touch of visual on it and show the scenario that puts how well influences it can be as a treasure. I see some influence from the Minoan root, mostly because they like putting animals in any art form. As it may be Minoan or Mycenaean crafting, which don’t know, since they both can have a similar but different way in creating their own style. From the scene of the cup, on side show a man capturing the bull with a lasso, and on the other side show a cow being kept in captivity. Still a debate withers it the work of either both Minoan or Mycenaean, because as mentioned, both can be similar but differently depend
The time when iron was beginning to be used primarily for making tools is referred to as the Iron Age.
Jones is a redshirt senior who transferred from North Carolina Central after earning he’s degree there. Temple also utilizes Jones as a kick and punt returner. That is probably the strongest part of he’s game. He has great vision with the ball when returning kicks to get up field and get yards and put the offense in a good position to succeed. Jones, however, lacks the height and weight to be a successful corner at the next level. He appears shorted than he’s listed height and taller receivers can easily overpower him. I just cannot see Jones being on a 53-man roster next season due to he’s lack of height.
Contrast Etruscan and Greek sculpture. How did the Etruscans adapt Greek sculpture? What changes did the Etruscans initiate? Use examples to support your answers.
Imports of precious metals and animal friezes were found in the Athens cemeteries and were indicative of Eastern influence (Biers 128). Athen’s blacksmith’s skill can be seen in their use of gold foil shaped, as well as, gold jewelry found in a graves such as one from 850 in Athenian agora (Biers 127). Another find in the Athens cemetery of Kerameikos were the ivory female figurines with four other statuettes in the 3rd quarter of the 8th century. These figurines were imitations of eastern figures but Greeks placed their geometric flare onto the naturalistic style (Biers
Kamares wares are a discriminating style of ceramic manufacture in Crete during the Minoan era, placed to 2100 BCE. By the conclusion of the First Palace Period, these goods diminish in arrangement and "vitality". The Harvester’s Vase is one of the “finest” examples of Minoan pottery along with other notable Minoan works such as the Chieftains Cup and The Boxer Vase Rediscovered in the ruins of the Hagia Triada, an Minoan settlement in 1902 The Harvester’s Vase, is beaufiful and rare artficact of Minoan culture, the artist is unknown but it is belived to have been created around 1500 BCE the height of Minoan civilzation. But this isn’t any old vase, in fact it is not vase at all, according the art historian John Forskyse, it is a stone scupluture made up of steatite or soapstone, (a metamorphic rock made up talc and magnisium) a very common stone for carving during this time.
This week we discovered Cycladic, Minoan, and Mycenaean artworks. I will be discussing the art of Figurine of a Woman, Young god, and funerary mask. I will also reveal important parts from the videos, “The Minoans: Ancient Civilization of Crete”, “Mycenae”, and
The Mycenaean culture was one that was invaded causing the culture to disappear. The Mycenaean period was around 2000-1500 B.C. Mycenaean lasted. according to Greek legends, they were destroyed by the Dorians, an immigrant tribe to have been descended from Hercules. The Mycenaean civilization collapsed in 1200 B.C.E. This is known as the Dark Ages. Although studying ancient civilizations is really difficult, some historians have one similar understanding that the Mycenaeans collapsed from internal issues within their own civilization and then later conquered by the Dorians. Although the Mycenaean, government failed over. having a civilization fall from inside its own political government brings invaders, influencing and attracting them to a weak civilization, eventually making it easy to take-over. Now that the Mycenaean are vulnerable to any outside threats, the Dorians took that advantage. But some believe
All human expression can be broken down into four basic emotions- happiness, sadness, anger, and fear. Of these emotions, none can contest with the influential effects of fear. Throughout history, we have seen the devastating impacts of fear in slavery, Stalin’s brutal reign over Russia, and most significantly, the Nazi party. Fear has constantly been shown to possess and control people to engender dire consequences, much like it does in Alan Paton’s novel Cry, the Beloved Country. In his novel, Paton examines the negative impacts of fear, namely prejudice and corruption. Set in South Africa, the main character, reverend Stephen Kumalo, observes the stark contrast between his poor village and the cosmopolitan city of Johannesburg. Throughout the story, he unearths the changes occurring in South Africa as a result of escalating racial tensions. His journey brings him to an understanding of the harsh struggle of his fellow Africans, and he too begins to experience the growing fear. Paton explicates that eradication of fear is of utmost importance in fashioning a unified country, and if we fail to set aside our fears, we must forever bear the scars of prejudice and corruption.
With the palaces came the development of writing, probably as a result of the new record-keeping demands of the palace economy. The Minoans on Crete employed two types of scripts, a hieroglyphic script whose source of inspiration was probably Egypt, and a linear script, Linear A, perhaps inspired by the cuneiform of the eastern Mediterranean. The scripts are found on sun-dried clay tablets that are mostly administrative records; on ritual objects such as miniature double axes and stone libation tables; and on pottery and rings.
I have decided to choose a beautiful porcelain swan as my work of art. I never really considered it a work of art until I took this class. The brand of this gorgeous swan is HomCo. HomCo stands for Home Interiors & Gifts Inc. It is no longer called that though. Anyway, the year that this swan was created was 1987. It was made in Mexico. The principles of design that are involved with this pretty swan are balance and harmony. The elements of design used for this swan are texture and color. I will also briefly compare this swan with a vase made in China during the 18th century. The vase is made of porcelain with white glaze and over glaze enamel.

To sum it up, it is evident that Transtheoretical Model of change would create positive impacts in regard to transformation of alcohol addicts while helping them to have positive behavioral changes. Transtheoretical theory of change helps a patient to undergo a series of changes over time as they end up their behavior. The ultimate goal of this model is to ensure that any patient has terminated the behavior that compromises their health. The theory is also helpful as it provides an opportunity for a patient to have decisional balance for their behavior while promoting self efficacy at the same time.
It is a work of cloisonne and metalwork, a technique in which strips of gold are set on edge to form small cells. The cells are then filled with a colored enamel glass paste and fitted with thin slices of semiprecious stone. Throughout the early Middle ages, this style was imitated in manuscripts, stone sculpture, church masonry, and wood sculpture. I can tell by the gold hinges.
The Minoans were a civilization who flourished from 3000 BCE until 1100 BCE on the island of Crete, were greatly influenced by the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Syrians and the Anatolians (Britannica Encyclopedia). This civilization made major contributions to Western European development in the areas of language, architecture and art. It was the famous archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans who made the astounding discoveries at Knossos in the early 1900’s that introduced to the world the fascinating and wonderful sophistication of these early Greeks (Britannica Encyclopedia). The history of the island has been molded by its proximity to the Aegean Sea. Its geographical location gave it control over the sea and the lucrative trade routes. The Minoans traded with Egypt, the Levant, the Aegean, and beyond to Italy, and Sicily.
