In the two stories “The Narrative of a Life of Frederick Douglass” and “The Count of Monte Cristo” Alexander Dumas and Frederick Douglass make the argument on how being able to read and write is what made it possible able for the people in their story to find success. The writers show how they used this newfound knowledge in two different lights. Douglass values education and knowledge to the highest extent. He gained this knowledge from being taught by Mrs. Auld and by tricking the white kids into teaching him.
