Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde share a lot in common. They both go through a series of events and contain a scientist that experience in working against nature’s law and creating a human (play God). In Shelley’s Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein uses fragments of various body parts to create man (a monster) in which Victor thought was the greatest creation yet. In Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde the story is of a scientist Henry Jekyll who is actually a doctor that created a potion to bring out the evil side of him to make up a person of just his evil. However, Victor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll don’t necessarily have a connection in the creation, process nor purpose both scientist test
"The Strange Case of Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde" written by Robert Louis Stevenson and "Frankenstein" written by Mary Shelley, both deal with the scientists upsetting the laws of the universe. Both of the scientists, Dr. Jeykll and Frankenstein, are attempting to play God in both of the famous novels. Dr. Jeykll is trying to understand the dual nature of humans to be both good and bad, by wanting to separate the two. While Frankenstein rises to balance his intellectual and social interactions. The stories are both very similar in the fact that they both create a monster. The "monster" in "The Strange Case of Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde" is presented by Dr. Jeykll. The "monster" in "Frankenstein" is presented by Frankenstein himself. In "The Strange

When the book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert L. Stevenson and the play, Trifles by Susan Glaspell were written both literary pieces dealt in depravity. The two main genres engage in violent acts with no remorse. Both genres reveal emotional turmoil, that’s the battle within their mind and soul, taken pleasure in immoral behaviors. Although The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Trifles are genres depicting male and female depravity, they are alike and different in social issues, such as violence, murder and justice for all.
Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde are in fact a single character. Until the end of the book, the two personalities alike, the well liked, respectable doctor and the hideous, bad Hyde are almost opposite in type and personalty. The author uses this marked thoughts to make his point. every one in the world contains opposite forces within him or her, an alter ego that hides behind them. Neither has a very interesting personality, it is the nature of their interrelation that makes the novel great.
The novel Frankenstein and the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have similar cases that creates a common theme. In Frankenstein the monster is innocent like a baby and transforms into a beast mentally, because of the way people treated him. In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Jekyll is a nice man but like all people he has an evil side, he creates an experiment that allows him to change forms and let his evil side out. Both passages show that evil is in everyone, even the best people. In the novel and novella, the authors develop a common theme through the use of characters and events.
Are good and evil distinct from one another or together as one? What’s one without the other? What is defined as good and evil? The path of being good is filled with evil intentions. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, good and evil appear through the protagonist Victor, and antagonist The Creature.
The battle between good versus evil is a classic battle, and has been shown in many different texts in many different ways. Both Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” have an overarching theme of good versus evil; however, Stevenson has his characters choose evil, unlike Poe whose character slips into it, also, Stevenson shows the duality of good versus evil in two separate bodies, while Poe has the two sides of human nature inside a single body, although, in both stories the protagonists feel remorse for their actions. The choice between the two sides is a clear difference between the two stories.
The depiction of both characters are recluses who do not care for human interactions, and seem to lack emotions. Both murdered people, had little to no regret in doing so nor showed sympathy in taking a life. Neither seems to care for the personal feelings of others and tend to come off as selfish at times. However, they two are also depicted differently from one another in their respective stories. Rodia is one of like a Jekyll and Hyde-type because of the way he comes off as mentally bipolar. Throughout the story he tends to vary with being compassionate and caring to commanding, angry, and only caring about his own interest. Meursault on the other hand appears to be void of any feeling at all. He refuses to cry at his own mother’s funeral,
William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ and Robert Louise Stevenson’s ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ both delude into the theme of conflicted minds. This is done through the characters and settings, such as, Macbeth and his castle. Also through Jekyll and his mansion with two different entrances. The conflict is presented through Jekyll’s search for identity and Macbeth’s ambition to become king.
I had now two characters as well as two appearances, one was wholly evil, and the other was still the old Henry Jekyll. (79) Opening in the Henry Jekyll’s full case statement Jekyll said, “I found it hard to reconcile with my imperious desire to carry my head high, and wear a more than commonly grave countenance before the public.” In this quote Jekyll is admitting that he isn’t normal. Later, Jekyll talks about concealing his pleasure.
The novella, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a timeless classic enjoyed by all ages. The main plot, the fight between good and evil in a man, has been recycled many times in books and movies with different point of views and story lines, but the message is still the same. In the 2003 movie, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, the plot is still very similar with small changes to the plot or characters, but the movie seems very different from the original novella. What makes this movie seem so different is the change of narration.
Many people believe that a person has two distinct sides to them, a good and a bad. Each side could be dangerous or endangered on its own, as they are pure evil and pure good. This idea of evil and duality of man is explored in the novella, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll splits himself into an absolute good side and an absolute evil side. When Dr. Jekyll split himself into pure bad and good, he eliminated all good qualities in his evil self and all evil qualities in his good self, nothing was spared. Mr Hyde repeatedly proves that he is pure evil by committing evil acts without remorse, carrying out brutal acts of violence and does not see a need for justice to be served.
Each person has multiple sides of their personalities that they bring out with certain people. Occasionally, the good and evil sides are referred as ‘Dr. Jekyll’ and ‘Mr. Hyde,’ as featured in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In the movie, Dr. Jekyll is portrayed as the ‘good’ side, while Mr. Hyde is the ‘bad’ side of his personality. Dr. Jekyll’s secret personality was Mr. Hyde. Everyone has multiple sides, including me.
