Firstly, Gatsby’s love for Daisy is genuine and authentic. For example, when Daisy kills Myrtle while driving Gatsby’s car, Gatsby insists on taking the blame to protect her. When Nick asks Gatsby if Daisy was driving the car, Gatsby replies “Yes [...] but of course I’ll say I was” (Fitzgerald 143). Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy is so extreme that he is willing to take the blame for a crime that wasn’t his fault to protect her.
He has gone to great lengths to make himself appear as appealing to a girl who never proves herself to be worthy of sacrifice. Gatsby creates a facade for himself in order to appear as a man who- in his mind- would be worthy of Daisy’s affection.
Paragraph 1 In Chicago, Roxie Hart is seen as joke in her musical plays because she is trying to earn money and be one of the best actress by showing off her body while dancing.
In the past they were lovers, but they became separated for awhile. After a few years they were reconnected thanks to Daisy's distant cousin Nick. When Gatsby, and Daisy reconnected they picked up right where they left off. Daisy, and Gatsby's love is strong, and when they are together they are very happy. Regardless of marriage, this love is s strong that she put her family at risk. The love however was much stronger from Gatsby. As Gatsby says, he did it all for Daisy. Gatsby even offered to cover for her when she hit,and killed myrtle driving. Daisy however did not even show up to Gatsby's funeral after he was shot because he was believed to have killed
Daisy had moved on by this time and married a man named Tom Buchanan. Gatsby clearly hadn’t moved on and was still chasing a married woman. He was even foolish enough to believe that Daisy would leave Tom in a heartbeat, and that she never actually loved him. You can see Gatsby’s delusion when he tells Daisy, “’It doesn’t matter any more. Just tell him the truth—that you never loved him—and it’s all wiped out forever.’” (Fitzgerald
characters in the story. Not only Gatsby but also Nick and Tom. I definitely think Jay
Not only has Daisy hurt her family, she also wounded the man she once loved. When Gatsby does his service at the army, he still writes letter and keeps contact with Daisy. But she becomes impatient with Gatsby’s return and leaves him out of the blue. “Daisy began to move again with the season; suddenly she was again keeping a half dozen dates a day with half a dozen men and drowsing asleep at dawn with the beads and chiffon of an evening dress tangled among dying orchids on the floor besides her bed” (151). Daisy is lustful and sleeps with many men to tries to fill the hole in her heart created by Gatsby. When she sleeps with so many men, she becomes numb to the idea of love because her fairy tale prince never returned to save her. Although Daisy never felt the same about Gatsby as when she was younger, Gatsby was madly in love with everything about her til his death. He sacrifices his life for her by taking the blame of Myrtle’s murder. “‘Was Daisy driving?’... ‘Yes
However, Gatsby’s life is ultimately taken away due to his burning desire for hope. His naivety in re-creating the ‘love’ he had with Daisy causes him to become a victim of his own wrong doing, the lies and the wealth all catch up to him in the end.
“Great Gatsby” has become famous nowadays, thanks to Leonardo di Caprio. Why is that important? Because Scott Fitzgerald’s book was actually all about the Jazz, literally naming the period of time between the end of the World War I and the Great Depression – the Jazz age. People owe so much to this period, which gave people enough space to express themselves. A wise man once said: “Jazz is an open minded music designed for open minds”.
Have you ever wondered why it can be so hard to tell the truth, or why it seems better to tell a lie? In both F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Rob Marshall’s Chicago, characters lie because they feel that it is easier. However, lying leads to a downward- spiral. The society we live in can either lead us to a complicated relationship with the truth or easy going. The problem with constantly telling lies is that it starts off with one then leads to another until everything you say is a lie. People know it is easier to tell lies than face the truth because they are either doing it for money, or protection for themselves, people they love, or relationships. Yes, telling lies can help but imagine the damage you’re building up on the way. Nobody likes liars and liars can be found anywhere, even families lie to each other. Relationships are just like thin pieces of paper that make small tears to it every time a lie is told. The paper can be put back together but it will never be the same or be seen the same.
He wants closure about what happened between them. Daisy confronts Gatsby about an affair she had with Tom, and he doesn’t even care at this point because what they had was ‘real’. She claims to love them both but she decides she wants to go back with Gatsby and not her husband. On her way back, she accidently kills a woman on the side of the road speeds off with Gatsby’s car. Gatsby gets blamed for the death and the husband of the woman shoots him. No one attends Gatsby’s funeral but Nick. This goes to show Gatsby really had no body in his life, and his own true love whom he did everything for, didn’t love him equally. Throughout the whole book, Fitzgerald points out that Gatsby was living his American dream, but because his dream was Daisy, he was living his dream out of fantasy not reality.
An abrupt death of Myrtle caused by the traumatizing car accident, and the sudden crash of the Wall Street are both endings of glorious and magnificent times. Is this a simply coincidence? Or is it Fitzgerald’s intention to link The Great Gatsby with the time period? The devastating incident of the car crash was the ending of The Great Gatsby and the crash of Wall Street brought the shimmering and wondrous Roaring Twenties to the end. There are strong connections between the novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ and the Roaring Twenties. America in the 1920s experienced various sudden and extreme changes in people’s lives in both economic and culture wise. The end of WWI introduced America to the urban society, causing a boost in economy, resulting affluence
However, from the description of the novel, also from the eye contact and emotional expression of Gatsby in the movie, it can be easily found that Gatsby really loves Daisy the girl. She is the goddess in his heart all the time. It seems that there is a deep gap between Gatsby and Daisy. He cannot forget his top girl all the time and he even firmly believed that he is able to draw Daisy’s heart back as long as he can possess a huge amount of
When Gatsby first meets Daisy, they are both young enough that only love matters and when he leaves, the possibility of them being together is still alive, but this doesn’t stay true. After the war, Gatsby realizes Daisy is married to a wealthy man and the only way to have another chance at her
