The hero of Anthem is Equality 7-2521 and Fahrenheit 451’s hero is Guy Montag. Equality is struggling for human uniqueness, the ability to think, live, and love on one's own terms. It's conflicting to Equality because he feels trapped by the confinements of the Council’s laws, but he still follows rules obediently, while the others do it gratuitously. An example of wanting to remain in his society is when he asks forgiveness even though he knows what he's done is a transgression “The law says that men may not write unless the Council of Vocations bid them so. May we be forgiven!”(Rand 1). Montage struggles with himself to abide with his government. Even though Guy is a fireman who burns books, he has a mental desire to save them from being burned. Montag wants to be an intellectual person who will discover and uncover realities of his society. Although, he fears being discovered and getting killed for his mistakes. Montag fears moving forward and feels stuck to the ground “ …show more content…
The thought of other people's feelings was not a question and Motag didn’t realized until Clarisse asked him a question, “‘Are you happy?’ she said. ‘Am I what?’ he cried.’”(Rand 10). All people have in Montag’s world are distractions, slight desires and nonviable relationships. Some of Mildred's, Montag’s wife, friends barely know their husbands because many commit suicide, overdose, or die in car accidents. Even death is a subject that's irrelevant in their world, they think "forget, burn, and move on". They don't delve on the dead there's no respect. Everything was a self delusion to the people around Montag, like the "family" it's all a device. It’s not real, but his wife thought it was, " 'Will you turn the parlor off?' he asked. 'That's my family'."(Rand 48). Lacking a part in one's mentality, with no right way to feel is one of the qualities of a dystopian

The second question is why does the government fear change? The third and final question is what is going to happen to the peoples who push the change that the government fears? In 1984, the main character, Winston becomes aware of the past of how the party came into the party and he tries to stop the party from having any more power. In Anthem the main character, named Equality, creates an invention known as the light bulb and he gets shut down for his invention and he gets cast out.
Can you fathom a world where everything is peaceful and predetermined? The novella Anthem by Ayn Rand and the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury depict futures where everything is predetermined and violence, betrayal, and deception are virtually non-existent. In Anthem this dystopia puts humanity into a dark age, which halts evolution and progression. This digression of humanity is the result of Collectivist ideals as proposed throughout the novella, one instance is where Rand writes, “There is nothing to take a man's freedom away from him, save other men. To be free, a man must be free of his brothers. That is freedom. That and nothing else.” (Rand, 70) These collectivist ways caused children to be raised in groups and taken to school until their group is appointed a job in their society, however this causes people to pursue careers that they detest and loath.
Anthem is a story about how mankind enters a dark age where individuality is now eliminated by ‘The Council’ in an unspecified future date and unspecified location. The narrator of the novel, Equality 7-2521 is a rebellious young protagonist that conducts illegal secretive scientific research alone and writes in a journal in an underground abandoned railroad tunnel. This dystopian novella deals with authoritarianism as the government has taken control and assigns jobs and duties for every being based on the Council's decision. In the novels Anthem by Ayn Rand and V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, the totalitarian government takes advantage of their higher power to enforce strict obedience on citizens, without concerning for their opinions or wishes and removing their personal freedom, which causes a rebellious protagonist to take charge and struggle to find their freedom.
Guy Montag, on the other hand, is a fireman who starts fires, rather than stops them, in order to burn books, which are banned. Anyone caught with books are reported and their house and sometimes the people themselves are burned to the ground. People in his society don’t read books, enjoy nature, spend time by themselves, think independently, or have meaningful conversations. Guy is struggling with the meaninglessness of his life. His wife doesn’t seem to care and when he meets a seventeen year old girl named, Clarisse McClellan it opens up his eyes to the emptiness in his life. After this Montag becomes overwhelmed because of the stash of books in his house that he stole while on the job. Beatty, the fire chief, says that it’s normal for every fireman to go through a stage of wondering what books have to offer. Beatty gives Montag the night to see if the books have anything valuable in them, and to return them in the morning to be burned.
The main characters of both novels want to be valuable to other people. In Fahrenheit 451, Granger tells Montag to “walk carefully”and guard his health. Granger says “If anything should happen to Harris, you (Guy Montag) are The Book of Ecclesiastes. See how important you have become in the last minute!”(Bradbury 151). Granger says this because he knows this is what Mr. Montag wants to hear. In Anthem, Equality 7-2521 writes that he will “take our box, and walk through the streets to the Home of the Scholars”(Rand 66). He plans to “join our hands to theirs, and we shall work together” (Rand 67). Guy Montag and Equality 7-2521 feel the need to be valuable simply because they are humans. This particular human trait causes internal conflict in the protagonist. When Guy enters the forest, he leaves his whole life behind. He wants to make a difference through the book people. He feels like his efforts to change the population prior to this stage in his life were in vain. A person will always strive to find a purpose after they suffer a great defeat. The want to make a difference blinds Equality 7-2521 so much that he ignores the obvious truth: that government will never forgive him for his transgressions. He knows he can be of more service to the community than just being a Street Sweeper, so the reader can infer that

Guy pity’s himself and his wife, mildred, not because he is sad, because he wish things could have been different for them. Mostly, is enraged by the ignorance and helplessness of the people around himself, and is the cause of most of his confusion.

Although many complaints were turned in, the report that montag’s wife Millie sent was the one that caused the fire department to take action. In this passage, Beatty explains that he intends to murder Guy by burning him. He also believes that if he burns Montag he won't have to deal with the repercussions of murdering him, and it will be assumed that he burned with his books. If this conflict hadn’t happened, Montag would have stayed in the city to die when it was bombed. He also would have never been able to share the messages that he had learned from reading books as well as he would have outside the city. In closing, the central conflict in this book saved the main character's life and helped set him up to help fix
The story of Anthem takes place in dystopian future in which freedom and human rights have been obliterated. From all outward appearances, Guy Montag is content in his job as a fireman in the 24th century town in which he lives. He has learned to accept that his society is dictatorial, expressly forbidding its citizens from reading or possessing books or seeking any other intellectual self-improvement. Montag has even learned to take pleasure in the flames that shoot from his igniter when he is called to burn the dwelling of the citizens that possess books or commit other crimes against the society. He is successful in distancing himself from the fact that his purpose in life is to destroy other peoples' property.
Guy Montag is a fireman who is greatly influenced in Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451. The job of a fireman in this futuristic society is to burn down houses with books in them. Montag has always enjoyed his job, that is until Clarisse McClellan comes along. Clarisse is seventeen and crazy. At least, this is what her uncle, whom she gets many of her ideas about the world from, describes her as. Clarisse and Montag befriend each other quickly, and Clarisse's impact on Montag is enormous. Clarisse comes into Montag's life, and immediately begins to question his relationship with his wife, his career, and his happiness. Also, Clarisse shows Montag how to appreciate the simple things in life. She teaches him to care about other people and
changing society by starting a revolution. In the stories Anthem and Fahrenheit 451, the writers
