The hero of Anthem is Equality 7-2521 and Fahrenheit 451’s hero is Guy Montag. Equality is struggling for human uniqueness, the ability to think, live, and love on one's own terms. It's conflicting to Equality because he feels trapped by the confinements of the Council’s laws, but he still follows rules obediently, while the others do it gratuitously. An example of wanting to remain in his society is when he asks forgiveness even though he knows what he's done is a transgression “The law says that men may not write unless the Council of Vocations bid them so. May we be forgiven!”(Rand 1). Montage struggles with himself to abide with his government. Even though Guy is a fireman who burns books, he has a mental desire to save them from being burned. Montag wants to be an intellectual person who will discover and uncover realities of his society. Although, he fears being discovered and getting killed for his mistakes. The thought of other people's feelings was not a question and Motag didn’t realized until Clarisse asked him a question, “‘Are you happy?’ she said. ‘Am I what?’ he cried.’”(Rand 10). All people have in Montag’s world are distractions, slight desires and nonviable relationships. Some of Mildred's, Montag’s wife, friends barely know their husbands because many commit suicide, overdose, or die in car accidents. Even death is a subject that's irrelevant in their world, they think "forget, burn, and move on". They don't delve on the dead there's no respect. Everything was a self delusion to the people around Montag, like the "family" it's all a device. It’s not real, but his wife thought it was, " 'Will you turn the parlor off?' he asked.
