The points conveyed in the novella Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, and the movie Dead Poets Society, directed by Peter Weir, have endless similarities in the subjects of objectivism, conformity, and life, where both main characters pursue their beliefs. Objectivism creates the exemplification of the differences and similarities between the society of the city and the high school creates a restricting environment but in different senses. The book and movie instill a sense of rebellion where they break the rules.¨We shall go down. It is forbidden!¨
“Anthem” – one of writing authors Ayn Rand, shows her at her most vicious, hungry, and ambitious reading personality not only as a writer, but as a storyteller as well. The classic hit novel “Anthem” is the predecessor to Ayn Rands later books and storytelling works such as “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged”, often tackles controversial themes that are still prevalent within modern America today, such as Family & Love. The grandeur novel “Anthem” is a reflection of such topics, all whilst being told with almost an aura of mystery within the novels plotline / storyline. “Anthem’s” take on things such as individuality and self discovery along with universal, self serving terms such as “I” & the word “We” are the key factors in helping differinciate this author Ayn Rand from other authors that write and compse the same genre of literature as Ayn Rand. There are many reasons for books to be banned in countries. The books 1984 and Anthem is both banned in countries for being a dystopian novel. These books have a lot of similarities, but the thing that separates them is that their differences. They differ by three simple questions, the first question is what the main character fears. The second question is why does the government fear change? The third and final question is what is going to happen to the peoples who push the change that the government fears? In 1984, the main character, Winston becomes aware of the past of how the party came into the party and he tries to stop the party from having any more power. In Anthem the main character, named Equality, creates an invention known as the light bulb and he gets shut down for his invention and he gets cast out.

To begin, the problems in the stories are both similar in many different ways. Anthem and The Village are both having problems with their “government” or people who rule them. The governments both are trying to keep deep secrets away from their citizens. In the story The Village, the secret that is trying to be kept from the people would be, that there is a whole nother world out there, but they can’t let the people know because they don’t want no chaos.
