Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was one brave mongoose who had the courage to go up against the fiercest animals on the planet, Cobras. (Movie)(Kipling 143) The story took place in Segowlee Cantonment, India in a house’s garden where Darzy the bird and his wife, Chucundra the muskrat, and the deadly Cobras live. (Kipling 143) The Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was a mongoose who got washed away from his home and ended up with a new family. He would would end up coming across three snakes in the large garden and killing them. Cobras, are one of the most dangerous snakes in the world. You must be brave to fight a cobra if you are not you could be snatched up any moment. Nevertheless Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the book and the movie are the same story they have differences such as the Plot, characterization, and the conflict.
The plot in the movie and the book had some differences along the way. (Kipling 144) The story talks about how Rikki-Tikki-Tavi put his nose into the ink and burnt his nose on the father’s cigar, but these scenes were never mentioned in the movie. (Movie)(Kipling 144) In the movie, it shows how they find Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and they save him, then it shows how he goes to sleep with Teddy the boy but in the story, it has those two scenes reversed. As there are various similarities, there are differences as well. One being that in the book Rikki-tikki-tavi and Nag duel when they initially meet with the help of Nagaina(Book). This scene helps build up the rivalry of the snakes and Rikki-tikki. The scene provides a simpler way to see why Nag and Nagaina dislike the mongoose, along with other lines. “When the house is emptied of people, he (Rikki-tikki) will have to go away and the garden will be ours again.” (Kipling 150) Nag and Nagaina want power. Rikki-tikki Tavi took place in India in the late 1800s. Rikki-tikki Tavi was a brave, little mongoose who killed copra’s and Karait a venomous snake and saved a family from the snakes. Darzee, the tail-bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the musk-rat, who never came out into the middle gave him advice but Rikki did the real fighting. When Rikki-tikki was first trying to kill the copra he was scared, but then he remember that mongooses are known to fight and kill snakes. Rikki-tikki and the copras are natural enemies. Every time when Rikki-tikki would fight his eyes would turn red and fierce.

Rikki TIkki is a brave character in this story. In one example, Rikki Tikki had to fight Nag and Nagaina because they were planning to kill Teddy’s family (para 53). This displays how Rikki Tikki was brave and fought the cobras even though they were stronger than him. Since he was being brave he showed how having courage can give you greater self confidence. In addition, Rikki Tikki said, “All the cobras are dead; and if they weren't, I'm here”(para 104). This proves that Rikki Tikki was confident, and stood up against menacing cobras to protect his friends. His actions show that he has a lot of courage and believes in himself. All in all, Rikki Tikki is a brave mongoose in this story.

Rikki was found by a river soaking wet by Teddy, a boy who wanted to have a funeral for him, and his family. In both the story and movie he was describe cold and wet; also he was found in the dirt. The family decided to take him home to warm him up and get him something to eat. During the movie the big man, Teddy’s dad, picked Rikki up at the river holding him with his nose at the man’s finger tips, and Rikki’s tail passed his wrist. While in the story it is stated “the big man picked him up between finger and thumb.”( Kipling pg.143) there is a difference between the story and the movie. While the movie isn’t an exact replica there still are a lot of similarities. When the family decided to bring Rikki-Tikki in to dry the movie and story have a difference. The story said that “They wrapped him in cotton, and warmed him over a little fire.” (Kipling 143). Although the movie was close it showed Rikki in the cotton but he wasn’t placed over a small fire. Similarities are plentiful in the movie, but there are some differences to look up to.
