There is not that much information and attention on Sickle Cell patients and the burdens that they face throughout their life. He was medicated with Demerol an hour after he came to the ER and every 3 hours after. The teenager expressed a decrease in pain after medication but still continued to complain about pain. When they diagnosis a patient with Sickle Cell Anemia they perform a blood test. This test would check for hemoglobin S which is what carries oxygen to all the tissues. This would service as a conformation that an individual does indeed contains the disease. This blood test is a routine performed with newborns at birth in the hospitals; however, it can be tested on adults as well. What is test from newborns to determine if the disease is present is by extracting a sample of the amniotic fluid. The blood is usually taken form newborns from there heel or finger. Whereas, adults are taken from the vain in the arm. Once they conclude if its negative or positive further test will be done to see if there are one or two sickle cells existing.
