The reason I chose to use my show cattle as the main part of my video is because they are really important to me and have probably had biggest impact on my life as a whole. For the last 10 years I have been showing cattle and it has been a huge part of my life ever since. Showing cattle has taught me more about life and responsibility then anything else in my life ever has. Throughout the years of showing my cattle I have made many friends and been lots of places. The reason I chose the pictures that I did for my show cattle part of the video is because they show the way that I have grown and learned more over the last few years about showing cattle in specific. Having pictures of multiple years of calves that I have showed, explain how my showing abilities have improved since I started showing cattle. I mixed the different cattle that I have showed so that my video would show different perspectives of my show calves and the different breeds that I have showed. These pictures help me look back at the different shows I have been too with different calves helps me understand what I have improved on. Each calf that I have had, has been different in many ways, and each one has made me go out of my comfort zone in different ways and helped me learn new things such as, showing a different breed that I had no experience in, breaking calves to lead, new techniques for showing and prep, and figuring out new feed rations for my calves. …show more content…
They have always be there for me, and always support me in anything that I do. I put the pictures in my video that way because it shows my family and explains how important they are to
Longhorn Cattle have a long history to go with their long horns that they are known for which can grow up to seven feet wide. Their progenitors were acquainted with the New World in 1493 when Christopher Columbus arrived in the present-day Caribbean Islands. As Spanish moved north they carried the cows with them and in the eighteen - hundreds longhorns touched base in the zone that would get to be Texas. These cattle were viewed as wild until tamed in the nineteenth century. (Radke)
Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type” by Doreen Cronin talks about cows and chickens that negotiate to get electric blankets. Even though this is a book intended for children’s entertainment it is believed that there is a deeper meaning than what is superficially understood by the reader. In a reader’s perspective, the farmer represents the authority and the cows and chicken represent workers. Just like the animals, the workers do not have a voice. Thus, once the cows and chickens find the old typewriter in the farm they see it as a way of speaking and a way to gain the empowerment that they have been lacking for a while. This can be seen when the cows first leave a note to protest, when the cows decide to include the hens, and when the hens decide
The Black Angus cattle is known for is low rate of getting sick. There are many different sickness the animal can get, but there is a medicine for almost everything the animal can get. I have read two books that share the same theme. 14 Cows for America and The Giving Tree are the books I’ve read. The books’ theme is giving when someone is in need, and they teach the theme similarly and differently. Do you want to know them? If you do, keep reading!
The operation I created my brand for is Conover Cattle Company. The operation is owned by my Father, Kory Jacobsen, and my Grandfather, Allan Kuboushek. The farm started with five cows and with a Simmental influence in 2001. Now the farm is up to 40 cow calf pairs with slightly less Simmental interest, but a more diverse cow herd (Angus, Simmental, and Charolais). The farmland is unique and the history surrounding the area is something I wanted to incorporate into the brand.
To start off, the passalidae is comparable to many other beetles in terms of strength. For example, the dung beetle is the world’s strongest animal according to Dr. Keen (Daily Mail). This beetle can pull six filled double decker busses in proportion to humans, equivalent to 1,141 times their body weight. What might cause the beetle to have such strength? Researches say that this beetle’s sex life is to be responsible (University of London). Because of fierce rivalry, competing with other males for who gets to mate with the females, the beetle has developed strength over time and this may result in the beetle’s incredible strength. To compare, the betsy bug (horned passalus beetle) in particular can lift near a hundred times the bug’s own body
The cattle industry started to rise after the American civil war. This was due to the increase of cows in Texas as cows weren’t fenced in. A man called Joseph McCoy soon came up with the idea of the cow town of Abilene, where Northern buyers could meet up with Southern sellers where they were on equal footing and couldn’t be attacked by Indians. Abilene was built on the Kansas Pacific Railroad. This made it easier to transport cattle bought to the cities in the East like Chicago. By 1870 300,000 cattle were being bought and sold in Abilene. Cows that were sold in Texas for $5 could be sold for $40 in a cow town. This helped the cattle industry rise as it meant more people would sell their cows and gain profit. This then developed even further as the railroad was moved westward which developed other cow towns such as Dodge city and Kansas because it meant there was more places where you could gain more profit for selling your cows.
The Senepol cattle breed was originally developed in the Caribbean, on the island of St. Croix. According to the Oklahoma State Breed of Livestock website, the N’Dama cattle were imported into St. Croix from Senegal, West Africa and later crossbred with the Red Poll bull to help with improving milking ability, fertility and removal of the horns of the N’Dama breed. From the genetic crossbreeding of the N’Dama and Red Poll, the Senepol breed of cattle was achieved. In 1977, the first load of approximately 22 cattle left for the United States and had major influence cross the southern states of the country. Before the introduction of Senepol cattle to the United States, there was a very limited seedstock market due to the original purpose in

The Cattle on Feed report is a survey that provides an estimate of the number of cattle being fed for the slaughter market that are expected to grade out at select or better, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The survey, conducted in the 16 largest cattle-feeding states, represents the numbers being produced by roughly 2,000 cattle feeders with more than 1,000 heads of cattle. The Cattle on Feed survey is conducted monthly and the report is issued on the third Friday of each month.
Bill McKibben who is the author for the essay called The Only Way To Have a Cow claims that the way meat is made is an unclean practice that has many negatives. The biggest of them all is methane in the atmosphere. The release of methane can be of the past thanks to today’s methods and technology. Methane can be reduced by having the cows become free-range and grass fed but that would increase the price of meat. Other ways methane can be reduced in the atmosphere is by being stored and used for energy, and by altering cows diets.
Ever since forty plus years ago Agriculturalists have shown a variety of show cattle and ran ranches with them. I showed cattle for a few years throughout my FFA experience. Cattle have played a huge role in our society feeding families and other people who reside in this world. Their effect on human culture is something that we take much pride in when raising our cattle whether it is for companion or meat products. Previous cattle showman know and strive to achieve the ultimate goal: winning grand champion. This reward is earned by having the best show calf in the ring to the judge’s perspective. In order to reach this goal, the exhibitor must use proper feeding methods and show technique. (Insert thesis here.)

On many farms in the United States, it is common to utilize hormones and other additives on cattle in factory farms. Farms often feed animals hormones to quicken the slaughtering process. Although the factory farms sell a surplus amount of cattle to stores, cattle are being treated unfairly and inhumanely. Cattle in farm factories are subject to the injection of hormones, harsh environments and poor physical treatment. Due to the utilization of hormones, abuse of cows and monopolization of cattle factories livestock farms, cows are deprived of basic needs and suffer physical trauma.
