It was anonymously said, “Racism is something you learn, not something you are born with.” I believe that everyone should be treated equally. It should not matter if a person is white or black they should be treated for whom they are. I believe that there is no superior race; every race should be entitled to the same set of human rights. I want to live in a world where there is no white privilege. White people are least likely to be abused by an authoritative figure than a person of color. I believe that everyone should have the same opportunity. Whites are more likely to be hired than other races. I believe your race should not determine who you will become. If a black person wants to become a lawyer they have the capability to become one.
Many said racism will cease after the 1960s, but we are living in the 21st century and yes people are still racist to all the ones that are not their "same kind". He mentions the opportunity of more diverse schools, for me that was just like, " Are you Kidding Me?" I attend a very diverse college where I have had Asian, White, African Americans, Jewish, Hispanics, and Arab classmates, and he comes to that bullet point when we have that already in society and we still have discrimination and racism. If a school isn't diverse enough we should the parents why their children don’t attend a school that has a lot of African Americans and Latinos, but private schools tend to be a better choice. Sometimes even teachers have discriminatory comments towards their students and you don’t need to be Einstein to read that between lines. Then he goes on mentioning an example that it would improve public transportation by connecting the "creative class" with working class. That sentence was like humm….
"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." Martin Luther King had once said this before, but he is so tragically wrong people are still affected by racism. The person being racist does not know the harsh realities of it until they actually are exposed to it. However, the majority of victims are Africans, Asians, and Hispanics who are succumbed to it by the stereotypical Americans. Not only are they judged by the color of their skin but, many of their lives are affected in today’s society. Having a larger number of Americans being white, it is widely assumed
"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." — Martin Luther King, Jr. / "I Have A Dream" speech, August 28, 1963” (http://www.biography.com/people/martin-luther-king-jr-9365086#i-have-a-dream
I agree with this statement because it shows how racist a white person can be to a black person only because of their skin color. This statement means that if a white person is discriminating against a black person, then that white person is racist no matter where he comes or what he is known for. It must feel really bad when a person of any color gets discriminated even though they didn't do anything. Even after a person leaves a situation where they faced negative stereotypes, the effects of coping with that situation remains with them. People of any race who've been faced with prejudice, are more likely to be aggressive after that happens. They are most likely going to show a lack of self-control. In the end, any kind of discrimination is bad because you're basically telling people that they're worthless because of their
“I have a dream I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.(Allen).”People do not know another person's life like the way the do their own,and racism is a perfect example of this. “Education or awareness of the human species and what makes it tick will understand that a person's worth, character, and capabilities have zero to do with the color of their skin(Wills).”Some people may not believe that racism is ignorance because people no right from wrong ,butIf they think racism is the right way then they do not know what is right. “Racism is a form of bias. Bias is a consequence of ignorance(Northup).”Even if people know right from wrong ,they know that if you are wrong if you think racism will lead to something
In late September, Tim Wise came to SUNY Oswego and gave a presentation in regards to systematic of racism in our country. As a white man he acknowledges and has developed a great understanding of this controversial and complex issue. At the event, Wise brought to light the conversations of racism that has immensely affected the mindset of African Americans and other minority groups.
An especially powerful quote from the book reads, “We must face that racism manifests itself not only in individual
“All Persons born or naturalized in the U.S are citizens… no state can deprive any person of life, liberty, and property, without due process,” (Source 3). This means that no matter what the color of your skin is, you have natural born rights. This supports that it’s bad because many white people don’t allow African-Americans to have Liberty or Property. “Representative shall be apportioned among the several states according to their respective numbers,” (Source 3). This means that no matter the color of your skin, you can be a senator by winning the most votes. This supports that if an African-American is removed from his/her position can’t be according to law. This is true but, may say that White people founded
Racism is something that has messed up our country for years. We’ve fought over it, there has been times where we thought it was over, but it always lingers around and comes back somehow. I believe that it’s the old generations that are bringing into the new ones. Racism is something we learn, not something we’re born with.
“Racism is a bad thing, you find it everywhere in the schools, the clubs and also in the streets.”
“Racism is still with us. But if it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully we shall overcome.”- Rosa Parks
I believe that people should be treated equally, regardless of their race or gender. There are many issues today that have prevented everyone from being treated equally. For instance, people are judged by their gender, sexual orientation, age, race and religion. Although, some places have made changes that promotes equality.
“Racism is still with us. However, it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome. - Rosa Parks
The conflict of equal treatment between Caucasians and African Americans has consistently become the headline of many news stories in America. In one such news story, seven black passengers on board a Spirit Airlines flight were kicked off right before take off and escorted back into the airport by several police officers. An African American man refused to give up his seat after Spirit Airlines had mistakenly double booked his seat. The Caucasian flight attendants on board this aircraft accused the man of being disruptive after refusing to give up his seat. This man, his wife, and five of his friends were all escorted off the aircraft after this incident. Could this possibly be an example of racial discrimination
Social inequality is a recurring problem throughout, not only the country, but the world. There are all kinds of inequalities throughout the world, and without any person or thing creating awarenesses this will induce more pandemonium. With that being said, in order to terminate racial inequality, people that are capable of bringing awareness to it need to start producing familiarity locally because it will suddenly erupt onto a more global impact. When analyzing how starting to bring awareness to social inequities and raise awareness at a local level can turn global and change the world, one who explores the specifics of racial discrimination can aware others about the dangers and results of this certain inequality. Politics, professional athletes protesting, and media discrimination are ways people have been making local awareness a global reality. In the end, with more and more awareness, more and more people will help end inequalities throughout the world.
