What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Ag teacher? Is it parliamentary procedure? Or how about the public speaking competitions? It could even be soil judging. I think of all the time that you spend at the school or at FFA functions. FFA is a great way for students to get involved with their community and events around the United States. But what is the main thing needed for all of this? That’s right you got it, a teacher. Ag teachers are the best teachers out there, all the activities you do, the building, conventions, and many more things, but with the shortage of Ag teachers this could end soon. One of the first reasons to be a FFA teacher is you will never have the same teaching day twice! One day you might have to teach in the classroom and do book work then the next day you could be out in the shop building toolboxes or starting a greenhouse! Some days you could be planning for the next trip you are taking or planning for a CDE (Career Development Event). Not many teachers can travel the United States for part of their job. Being an Ag teacher you get to do this! National FFA Convention is held every year but every fourth year it is held in a different place. For example this year the convention is held in Louisville Kentucky, in two years the convention will be held in Indianapolis Indiana. Or another example is soil judging. Soil judging is a very competitive activity in the Ag program. You go all over your own state to judge
Idaho will consider having ag classes as a requirement for graduating. Which means u will have to take two classes of ag to graduate and get your high school diploma. Everyone should take ag class it would help with the real world problems.
One thing to do in Ag class is it has many different clubs. In ag there is stocks men's team. In stockmen's you work with cows horses chickens and there more different types of office. Like President and vice President then there is a foreman for each class. I am a foreman in my first block and I get to tell people People what to do and give them jobs to do
The California Future Farmers of America (FFA) is an organization “committed to the individual student, [by] providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education (“National FFA Organization, 2016). These goals are the driving force behind the California FFA as they reveal their most important assets: people and relationships. The structure of the California FFA is extremely organized, operating like an efficient machine, the key components of this student-run organization are their complex combination of vertical and lateral structuring, as well as their philosophy to create a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their leadership skills.
We were all sitting around Mr. DeHaan’s classroom; it was like any normal FFA meeting. Except this wasn’t like every other meeting. For one thing, I was about twenty times more nervous than I usually am. Because this meeting was the officer election meeting – and I was running for FFA President. Did I mention I was only a sophomore and was running against all the juniors? We had already cast the ballots once for president, and the seniors had gone into Mr. DeHaan’s office to count them. I remember one of the senior guys walking out and up to the white board. He erased three of the five names. My name was still there. I had tied with Travis TeGrotenhuis, so we had to revote. By this time, I was sweating bullets and my face was
With Ag career’s growing and stretching the economy, more kids are becoming interested in the Agricultural field, thus causing more students to join Ag classes. Then we have some kids being influenced by friends and family to join an Ag class and then they encourage their friends to join the class. Currently at Central DeWitt in the first semester classes our Ag teacher has 105 students that she is teaching in just this semester alone, and to remind you some of those students have 2+ Ag classes this
To help further myself I made the decision to attend the Animal and Botanical Sciences Academy at Freehold Township High School. This required me to leave the friends that I had made in my hometown in order to take specialty classes that I was interested in. When I entered Freehold Township High School I only knew one other student and was very intimidated in the new environment. It was in the agriculture class that I was able to find my place and make friends because of my agriculture teachers and FFA advisors. By entering the academy I joined the National FFA Organization, a youth run organization that promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The National FFA Organization has provided me with a multitude of opportunities. I have had the chance to compete on the state and national level in various areas of agriculture, participated in an array of leadership conferences, and served as a state officer for the New Jersey FFA
From the time a child is born to the day that they die, they will be told countless times to dream big. People tell them to reach for the stars and pursue the things that make them happy. Something they do not tell them is how powerful failure can be; how it can alter a person’s perspective on life and the direction they think they need to go with their future. Ever since I was a little girl my life’s goal in the FFA was to become a State FFA Officer. The concept of being able to positively impact someone’s life and promote an industry that I believe in whole-heartedly got my blood pumping. I was not prepared for failure, I only thought about success.
Even though I volunteered in different schools, I never had the opportunity to ask about the real feelings of a teacher. During the interview, I learned that there is more than just teaching in becoming a teacher. This is because she told me how one of her hesitation on becoming a teacher is the time one dedicates for the job. She told me that when one is teacher, one must prepare lesson plans, come to school early to prepare for the day, and even stay longer to grade papers. She said that her typical day starts at 7:30 am to prepare materials and school instruction starts from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Then, even though the class ends already, she needs to create lesson plans for the entire week. She said that all these things are part of a teacher’s job, but they do not get paid to do these things. Therefore, I learned that being a teacher is not easy because there are a lot of extra responsibilities beyond the job description and that being a teacher extend beyond the classroom. Additionally, her answer made me reflect on whether I want a job, where I have to work more than the “work hours.” However, despite this workload, what amazes me was when she said that if she could go back, she would still choose to be a teacher because of her passion to make a difference in the lives of the
While my dedication to teaching at some capacity has been a lifelong passion, I would like to explain why I want to join Teach for America by starting at the beginning of my own academic journey:
There are many reasons why I want to be a teacher. Starting with the most important, I want to influence children positively with Christian perspectives that will help them achieve satisfaction in their life. I also would like the opportunity to coach. I believe coaches have more influence on children than teachers. I think this is true because sports are something that the
School is a major part of our young lives. It is where we spend the majority of our time as youngsters. Children begin to develop relationships with people who have not been apart of their infancy. For someone who does not enjoy school, this could put a damper on their relationships with others as well as their learning achievements in life. This is why I want to become a teacher. I want to develop a learning atmosphere where children feel joy and security.
Elementary teachers not only introduce their students to the basic concepts of core subjects, they also help pave the path to each student’s future success. Education to become a teacher is long and tedious, and while the income may not be the highest available, watching students develop a new skill or grow an appreciation for learning can be very rewarding. Because there will always be a need for education, even with the recent budget cuts, teaching jobs will always have to be available somewhere.
Agribusiness Management means hard work, an extensive education, and many duties both in and out of the office. Ag Management can also reap many financial and emotional rewards. I’m fully aware
My motivation for being a teacher comes from somewhere deep within my heart and soul. I love children. I love the look that comes across their faces when they finally grasp a concept after they have been trying to truly understand it. I had a lot of teachers that made an impact on me and I want to have the same impact on as many children as possible. My teachers installed a love of learning in me. There is no better profession than teaching for those who want to learn. One is learning just as much from their students, if not more, than what they teach. Teaching is rewarding and involves making the world a better place. That is my calling. To change the world, one person at a time, by showing love to each and every person I meet. Weather it be one of my students or one of their parents, I want to be Christ’s light just like my teachers were for me. I want to be the support system that shows each and every one of my students that they can do anything they put their mind to. Not only can they shoot for the stars, but they can shoot far beyond. After all, I was once just a kid from a small farm town that no one knows about. Now I’ve been on 4 mission trips, I travel all around, and I moved half way across the country to chase my dreams. I am here because I was impacted by my high school history teacher/ musical director, Mr. Wittig. He pushed me to chase my dreams and to follow my heart and not to let anything get in my way. I want to share what I have with every child I can,
From the time I was a seven years old till the current day, as a Sophomore at Benedictine University, I have wanted to become a teacher. The four years of high school, Oswego High School, I truly become passionate to become a teacher. I took the necessary general education classes, and my elective classes learning about child development and early childhood education. Once I graduated high school, I felt confident to become a teacher, but I discovered that special education was what I truly wanted to do. From the first day or first grade up to now, I have become a success student, which I can’t wait to become teacher I want to be an aspirational teacher one day to my future students.
