Have you ever wanted to run away from home? Well, thats exactly how Tom and his friends were feeling in the book Tom Sawyer. Tom and his friends were about due for a break after seeing someone slyly slaughtered at the grave yard. Then Tom felt terrible after Becky rejected him. Everyone agrees that the boys were going through some tough times but some think Tom should have ran to be a pirate and others think Tom should not have ran away to be a pirate. Tom should have ran away to be a pirate for three reasons: Tom wasn't alone, he could relax, and it would be an adventure. The first reason Tom should have ran away to be a pirate is because he wasn't alone. Tom had Huck and Joe with him and they could run back home whenever they wanted so
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer has been a book beloved by both students and teachers for years. It tells the story of the life and adventures of the rambunctious and adventurous Tom Sawyer. Some people, however, believe that the book is not an appropriate book to be put in the school’s library. There are many reasons why this book should and should not be banned, but there is a definite right answer. Tom Sawyer is a book that should be on the shelves for any middle schooler or older adult to read.
Tom Sawyer was an adventurous little boy who was always looking for attention. Throughout the chapters that we read I could understand that Tom had an enormous imagination and that he would do basically anything to receive some attention in return. Tom acted the way that he did so that he could receive some of the attention that he was missing with being an orphan.
However many believe that Tom should have been a friend to Huck Finn. They could have each others' back Huck could help Tom out whenever he was in need of him. Since he wasn't tied down to going to school he was always there. Huck was always somewhere and couldn't be trusted to help anyone out if you really needed him too. If Tom couldn't find him then he wouldn't
Also he noticed that she tried to fight with Old Scratch like she was fighting with him by the long dark hair tossed around the trees. Even with his wife gone Tom still desired the treasure that was buried by Captain Kidd so he seeks out the devil. Tom decides to go into business as a moneylender for the devil; he moves to Boston and becomes very successful.
Tom had the opportunity to get all the fame ans riches he wished. He gets the opportunity to live an amazing lifestyle, but he would need to be selfish. This was no problem for Tom as he didn't care much about people.
Tom Sawyer is a book about a boy who has some crazy adventures. Tom also gets into almost of trouble through his adventures. Throughout the book tom changes and becomes a better person. This is how he changes and becomes a better person.
He’s always playing hooky. However, he’s also saving lives, such as Muff Potter’s. He tries to teach Huck the ways of robbers and pirates, all the while trying to get him to go back to the Widow’s and live in society. Most readers are familiar with his mischievous deeds, though we shouldn’t forget about when Becky rips the teacher’s anatomy book. Tom took accountability for tearing it when Ms. Dobbins’ urged the culprit to come clean. Though this brings more uncertainty, as there are some hints that Tom was still getting pleasure from taking the blame, such as when the book states that the adoration in Becky’s eyes is so valuable that it is worth one thousand floggings from Ms. Dobbins. These examples are some of the main reasons for the disarray in Tom’s
How far is too far? Tom Sawyer felt lonely, unwanted, and irrelevant. Because of his feelings he persuaded his friends, Joe and Huck, to join him in running away to become sailors for a few days, without telling any authorities. Tom's mischievous plan started as a light-hearted joke, but as time wore on the whole town was consumed with fear. The boys received praise from the kids in town when they finally returned, but caused their guardians a great amount of heat ache. Everyone agrees that Tom constantly performed naughty actions and rebelled against any rules that were set before him. But some believe running away without telling anyone was perfectly unacceptable. I feel that Tom should not have run away to become a sailor because
He decides to leave because he believes leaving is his only way out. He wants to rid himself of his father but doesn’t want to live in a world where he doesn’t understand life. The author expresses, “But Tom Sawyer, he hunted me up and said he was going to start a band of robbers, and I might join if I would go back to the widow and be respectable. So I went back.” The quote shows he only went back for Tom. Huck Finn doesn’t like living such a precise lifestyle. But Huck Finn hates his father and receives multiple beatings. That is expressed with this quote, “Every little while he locked me in and went down to the store, three miles, to the ferry, and traded fish and game for whiskey and fetched it home and got drunk and had a good time, and licked me…….. But by- and- by pap got too handy with his hick’ry, and I couldn’t stand it. I was all over in welts.” Huck Finn claims he doesn’t want to live with pap ethier. So running away and faking his own death was the only way to escape. He even says, “All right, then, I'll go to hell.” He thought hell would be better than where he was
Throughout multiple exciting adventures and dangerous explorations in the novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, we see Tom Sawyer mature. He matures through the love of Aunt Polly, Becky, Huck and other characters in the novel. In his search for treasure, Tom learns about personal accountability. Even in everyday life, we watch him develop from a boy into an adult. From a selfish young, mischievous lad, Tom becomes a sincere, kind and responsible young man.
Love of Becky and Tom with offences and forgiveness (“The fresh-crowned hero fell without firing a shot”), friendship of Tom and his friends (Huck Finn and Joe Harper), excitement that children feel in respect of the adventures (running away from home to the island “They felt like heroes in an instant. Here was a gorgeous triumph…” or getting lost in the cave (“All is lost!”), searching for the treasure and helping to catch Injun Joe, etc), fear and hate (Dr. Robinson death, Injun Joe desire to revenge, etc.) and faith that everything would be all right. All these emotions are experienced by the readers in real life and help them to empathize the main
First of all, Tom Sawyer does not care if someone else’s life is in his hands, for he would rather copy the books and take the most dangerous route possible. This trait is displayed in many moments in the novel, including when Jim has been captured and is being kept prisoner by the Phelps’, and Tom and Huckleberry are conspiring to plan his escape. “ ‘That’s more like,’ he says. ‘It’s real mysterious, and troublesome, and good,’ he says; ‘but I bet we can find a way that’s twice as long. There ain’t no hurry; le’s keep on looking around’ ”(p.234). As Huckleberry narrates Tom’s statement, it is seen that Tom is being quixotic to the point where it’s ridiculous. Jim is in trouble and Tom treats it like a game. Tom ultimately gets so caught up in his “adventure” that he forgets Jim is a person who still needs to be

Tom throughout the story displays many characteristics including the previously discussed, but the most noticeable and important is his adventurous nature. Toms sense of adventure is what drives the story forward more times to count. The audience gets the first taste of Tom's adventurous nature is when Tom accompanies Huck to the graveyard where they encounter the villain of the novel, Injun Joe, killing a man. This demonstrates that Tom's adventures also are the cause for most of the novels conflicts, even if he doesn’t see it. Another adventure, or misadventure, is the trip to the island that Huck, Tom, and Joe take to be “pretend” pirates. This is where Tom, demonstrates his wide imagination (and, as previously
