A six hour workday should become a standard in the United States because it increases productivity and it has been shown to work in other countries.
An employer wants to keep his employees to be productive as possibe and by having a shorter workday, it can be done. Based on the first article, in paragraph two, the Author claims "British boarding school classes was changed from 8:30 to 10:00 in the morning... student grades improved by an average of 19%" This shows how a school shortens it's class time, the students effort increased. The same can be applied to a job and its employees
A workers effectiveness has to due with how much they focus, and having shorter workdays can improve a workers focus on a task. In pargraph three in the first article, the Author says "Most people can only focus on a task for 90 - 120 minutes at a time" The Author mentions this to explain how a worker will have trouble foucusing if they are working long shifts with small breaks.

Both these countires have implemented shorter workdays and have shown higher productivity with happier workers. In paragraph four of the first article, the Author mentions "These shorter workdays are supported by new workplace guidelines such as no personal use of computers, fewer meetings, and as few distractions as possible to enable intense focus" Basicly the Author claims France and sweden's higher productivity rate is due to its combine factors of shorted workdays and less distractions to increase focus.
The United States should change the standard workday to six hours due to success from other countries, and increased productivity based on research in schools and
In this memoir, the author chooses to have two narrators, himself as one, and his mother as the other. This style makes for quite an interesting story, skipping back and forth in time, from the child's life, to that of his mother. Although many time changes occur, they are quite easy to keep up with, as the two narrator's of the book, James, and his mother, alternate chapters. For this reason, it is also very easy to compare the childhood of each of the main characters. Although the chapters aren't always during the same time periods of the respective characters, they are close enough that similarities can be seen, and parallels can be drawn. This is one of my favorite parts of the novel, seeing the
Due to my extreme interest in dentistry, I decided to join the Pre-Dental Organization. The club does not really have set meeting dates, but instead emails us when there is an upcoming meeting. These meetings vary greatly from learning how to prepare for the DAT to having guest speakers. All of this information is insanely helpful, as a solid DAT score is required to get into the dental school and guest speakers allow all of us to learn more about the field. The Pre-Dental Organization also lets us know of events that prepare us for being strong applicants to get into dental school.
Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four-day workweek, a clear definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), “A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24-hour periods. The workweek does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of the week and at any hour of the day.” It might be the “four-day, 32-hour workweek – more leisure, less work” (Wernette 1), or the “three-day, 40 hour, compressed work week” that Vega
The 4 day work week is not a new idea. It is one that has had its share of controversies over the years. Introduced in the 1970’s the idea of the 4 days work week has been making a comeback as of lately. There are several issues to look at here. One of the main statements in regards to it is that productivity will decrease because of fatigue. A 10 hour work day is too long. On the flipside, another of the main issues pointed out by proponents is that productivity will increase because you will have a workforce with higher morale. In this paper, we will discuss
The Role of Witches in the Downfall of Macbeth In the 1500’s there was a stigma surrounding the talk of witches and their cruel behavior. Many Elizabethans at the time a type of hysteria of witches as they had a negative connotation associated with them. Witches were a great deal of topic because of their peculiar powers and they're negative affect on the human life. Witches in creatures that are witches play a substantial role in justifying Macbeth’s actions throughout the play and reflect the typical viewpoint of Elizabethans during the time of Macbeth.
Six hour days will never work. Just like in the second article paragraph one it says six hour days were proven to not work in two places it was used in. In my opinion an extra two hours isnt that bad and it was proven to work by Henry Ford. In article paragraph 1 Henry Ford's profit doubled with eight hour shifts. Also with six hour days you lose a quarter of your pay. Not many people can live off of that unless pay went way up to cover for the time loss, but if that were to happen then buisnesses would lose money because they would have to pay more people to work all the shifts instead of a few people to work eight hours. All and all eight hours isnt that bad. It would have to be way worse for them to change to six hour work days. Even if
Henry Ford changed the workday to eight hours on his assembly line, in 1914. He did not, however create the focus his employees would use to increase their productivity the way they did. I believe by changing the length of the workday he captured some thing most companies fail to. The happiness of his workers. Should a six hour work day be the norm?
The work industry has both options of working six hours or more. If an employee ends up working six hours they dont get the full benefit of insurance or more hourly pay. With that being said most of the population likes to work more hours.
If workers could get all of the work done in the six hour shift then there should be no need for overtime. I understand the issue of getting hours cut but, it is a plus for all workers to have more time to spend doing what they want on their "free time". Companies should be willing to give the option of either eight or six hours days. Whomever would wish to stay and make up the extra hours and money should be able to do
I believe that a six-hour workdays should not become standard in the United States. This idea is not good for either the employee or employer. If it messes up the workers health then no one else is going to want to work at the site. A six-hour workday would basically make things more difficult for both employees and employer because while employees are getting sick and leaving, the employer has to worry about getting more workers. This could lead to something more worse because if there is no workers there is no productivity, and if there is no productivity then there is no money.
I believe that the U.S. should stick to the current eight-hour workdays due to the benefits and revenue that comes from it. The money being made from working an eight-hour shift not only benefits the employee but also the employee. The health benefits that most jobs provide just for working those shift are a bonus already. As for those who believe we should switch to a six-hour workday, just think about the benefits that will be lost over such a small change. It's not worth it.
Some people think that we should have an 8 hour school day. Having a longer school could help
In conclusion the literature suggests that working long hours is perceived to impact negatively on various aspects of work and home life. Compressed workweeks (one Work Life Balance practice) tend to be associated with positive effects such as increases in job satisfaction and performance.
"(A Corporation) found that the top ten percent of employees took a seventeen minute break for every fifty-two minutes they worked. These employees did not even work full eight-hour workdays, yet they had the highest productivity in the company."(Source 1. Para. 3, lines 5-6) That is an interesting statistic, though the reality of it is still in question with no company cited and no source listed. In fact, one who believes that fact should determine laws and buisness would be skeptical of both of these. However, once again suspending disbelief, this would bring about the question of whether they worked faster and better because of their relaxed state or the worry they would not get everything done in time? With that in mind, we have to continue on to our second speaker.
