There are people who think those police officers should wear their body cameras. Police officers need to wear their body camera for protection. People who are for it want the best for police officers. They do not want to see the officers suffering from rumors. For instance, a police officer could be in a situation that he or she has to excessive force on the suspect.

There are three main points supporters argue in this debate of why police should be mandated to wear body cameras. First, supporters state that police body cameras can help solve police brutality. The first police department in the United States to implement police body cameras was in Rialto, California, and according to Al Jazeera America, "The department saw an 88 percent decline in complaints against officers and use of force incidents plummeted to 60 percent" (Demetrius and Okwu 2). These supporters think if we were to implement police body cameras for all police departments in the United States, then these effects on police brutality could be attained nationwide. In the past couple years the media has been focusing a lot of its attention on police officers. Sadly they make police officers out to be horrible people who act solely on their hatred for certain races, but in reality police officers are there for the safety of the citizens. In any profession there will be people who are there for the wrong reasons, and this is true for police officers as well. Although most police officers focus on the safety and wellbeing of the citizens, some police officers are in for their own selfish and personal reasons. As a result they act immoral and unethical. These are what the media calls bad cops. Because of the misconduct of a few police officers, the public now proposes police officers wear body cameras. The use of body cameras proves to be a valuable asset in the incrimination of justice because of its many benefits, few downsides, and overall public approval.

The topic of police wearing body cameras has been heavily debated over recently, but the major spike in discussion occurred approximately a year ago, with the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American eighteen year old in Ferguson, Missouri. There have been other shootings this past year, and many people have become outraged with the way police abuse their power and use excessive force, and now all those protesters want one thing: for all police to wear body cameras. I for one agree with them, it should be mandatory that police wear body cameras while on duty.

Some officers are using their authority to pin everything on the civilian by using fake eyewitnesses and testimonies. Because of this, the public is having a hard time trusting authorities. It should be mandatory for police officers to have body cameras because it eliminates chances of them using excessive force, clears the confusion, and helps gain the public’s trust in them.

Police brutality has become a major issue in the United States causing people to believe that officers do not protect and serve. There has been many questions of how we can solve this problem. If a police officer is wearing a body camera it could save their life because the offender will know they are being watched and probably won’t try to attack the officer. As with any positives, there are negatives, like the expence of the cameras per officer as large. Also, don 't forget that they are an invasion of privacy.

Police officers should have to be required to wear body cameras to ensure the safety of the citizens and to provide evidence for a court case. Many times the police have gotten away with too many things and commit crimes that go unnoticed It’s time we put a stop to that and we make a change. I believe that Police Officers should always be required to wear Body Cameras. The reason i believe that Police should wear Body cameras is because for months and months on end there have been multiple case's of Police killing innocent civilians for unnecessary following the shooting death of unarmed black teenager in Ferguson,Missouri, in August 24 2014. The grand jury's decision was to not indict the officer of the shooting of the unarmed black teenager. Because of that happening the people began to riot in the streets because the police officer was not charged with anything after he had murdered a unarmed black teenager so in order for these riot's to be stopped community leaders suggested Police Officers should always have body camera's on them while they are doing their daily duties just in case another conflict happens between the officer and another person. Our former president of the united states was also informed that this situation was occurring through out different states so had funded a lot of money into help state's and local police departments so they would be able to purchase these body cameras and for new police training just to improve the police community.
