This is a very old topic on why men and women should have equal rights, but though the Declaration of Independence says that all men should be equal. It does not say anything about women. Growing up as an only girl in a family full of boys, I was very aware of the line between a girl and a boy. My grandma always said “girls are supposed to be clean and stay in the house and not get dirty”. Me being who I am thought this was dumb, like why can’t I go out and play in the mud and get messy? Statistics show that men get and average 51,212 per year and women get 40,742 per year. (2017, Miller) That is a ridiculous difference between men and women. It is not because the men are more qualified than the women or that women pick the wrong jobs but just the point that they are not men so they are not equal to them. In the past years the pay gap has changed but not very dramatically. “The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women’s progress in education and workforce participation and to men’s wages rising at a slower rate. Still, the pay gap does not appear likely to go away on its own” (2017, Miller) It also says that for the pay gap to be equal, women will have to wait till 2059. Not to mention the past few years that it has slowed down and probably won’t be equal by 2059. The difference in pay is down right just stupid. This is one of the biggest problems in the gender equality
