This is a very old topic on why men and women should have equal rights, but though the Declaration of Independence says that all men should be equal. It does not say anything about women. Growing up as an only girl in a family full of boys, I was very aware of the line between a girl and a boy. My grandma always said “girls are supposed to be clean and stay in the house and not get dirty”. Me being who I am thought this was dumb, like why can’t I go out and play in the mud and get messy? This wasn’t only about being cleaner than the boys and doing everything they said when they said it. This was much bigger, girls aren’t allowed to wear clothes that were to showing because a boy might take it as she wants him. Why are girls being taught …show more content…
Even if the women is more qualified than the man she will get less pay. In the United States women get paid 80% of what men get paid. Statistics show that men get and average 51,212 per year and women get 40,742 per year. (2017, Miller) That is a ridiculous difference between men and women. It is not because the men are more qualified than the women or that women pick the wrong jobs but just the point that they are not men so they are not equal to them. Everyone in the United States are supposed to have the same rights but being a women, something someone has no control over, is stopping them from getting the salary they deserve. In the past years the pay gap has changed but not very dramatically. “The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women’s progress in education and workforce participation and to men’s wages rising at a slower rate. Still, the pay gap does not appear likely to go away on its own” (2017, Miller) It also says that for the pay gap to be equal, women will have to wait till 2059. Not to mention the past few years that it has slowed down and probably won’t be equal by 2059. The difference in pay is down right just stupid. This is one of the biggest problems in the gender equality
Women employees make less than men in the same job position. “It is an absolute scandal that American women continue to earn just $0.77 for every dollar men earn.” (Sen. Mikulski) There should not be a gender pay gap. Workers should be given salaries based on their work ethics, degrees, and academic credentials.
As long as an American woman is putting in the same amount of hours with the same qualifications and experience in the same occupation as an American male, and yet taking home a wage that is any lower, she is not being treated fairly as an equal. Contrary to many arguments, it’s undeniable that a wage gap exists, and while there are various ideas as to the most probable cause, there is no reason why this gap should continue to go uncorrected or unchanged. Our government should take concrete steps to close the gender wage gap because it violates women’s rights and equality.
Women did not have many rights before the declaration of independence discusses human rights and my more, when the declaration of independence had came out it stated that everyone was now equal so all the laws that were only legal for the men are now legally for the women, the declaration of independence also says that your life, pursuit of happiness and liberty can not be taken away or denied.
Women have been suffering in the shadows of men for as long as time could tell, and the Declaration does not help their cause at all. When we speak of mankind, it includes all people, male or female. Women are forgotten in the Declaration of Independence and deserve a better role in
Before wars and conflicts women were always seen as the bottom tier, those with no power along with children. The Declaration of Independence was created most importantly for the “self-evident truths of human equality and the unalienable rights, which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. (Pg.123) These right were to say that all were created equal. Women, however, were the ones to gain least in the American victory of the Revolutionary War.
Many people in our society today tend to think the pay gap is much better than before. That is true, however it can still be better. Compare the white race’s dollar to the Latinos, or the African Americans, or maybe to the American Indians. You will see that the white male makes way more than compared to any other male or female that I mentioned above. In this essay, I will give you facts and statistics on the white man’s dollar compared to how much women earn, and how it varies by race.
The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal, but what about the women, the other half of the population? These men that wrote this document say that they believe in equality, but don't think twice about restricting women from having the same rights they have. One of the things that women are being deprived of is participating in their government on a national level. Women are not allowed to vote.
The average woman in the United States makes approximately $82.90 for every dollar their male counterparts make. (Elsesser). While those 20 cents may seem inconsequential to you, they add up. Losing that much money all year can be the difference between someone living in poverty, and someone living a nice life. The gender pay gap is the cause of this problem. Around the world, women are losing money just because of what gender they are. The gender wage gap is a huge problem, that can only be solved by going to extreme measures, such as requiring people to release their employees wage gap and passing new laws.
After the war, government and regular citizen policies enabled employers to replace feminine laborers with guys. Many organizations would just get men, inspite of everything they had employed ladies in the middle of the war. Employers that enlisted ladies assigned a new name to the occupations and lowered their compensation. The daily reading papers distributed different job listings for guys and ladies. Under the Classified ads ran indistinguishable occupations, however various pay levels for men and women. The level of ladies working outside the home dropped to under twenty-eight percent of the total workforce.
Diversity in the workplace is forever growing: Yes, we have made significant progress hiring people of different races, orientations and religious believes, however gender inequality is still a major issue. Why is it that woman with the same experience doing the same work, the same hours, with the same qualifications are (in some professions) paid less than men? We all have the right to work and have the same employment opportunities as each other. How can we justify denying women of this right? This is blatant discrimination? Despite the equal pay act of 1963 saying that it is illegal for employers to pay men more than women, a study from 2016 by The Independent shows that on
“The earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it” (Chief Joseph). In 1776, the Declaration of Independence states that all men are equal and governments are instituted among men but, why are these directed at only men? Also, when congress began to adopt new amendments they guaranteed equal protection to all male citizens and gave all men the right to vote but, what about women’s rights? Gender equality is the process of women and men being entirely equal. After many years of inequality a woman named Alice Paul worked jointly with other feminist regarding women’s suffrage. In 1920, the nineteenth amendment was passed and women were now given the right to vote. Although women gained one right, what about all of the other rights that men have such as protection? Women
Women are not entitled to the American Dream like men are. In the Declaration of Independence, it only refers to men
Second, if men are the large number of the population that use public services like law enforcement, prison or the emergency rooms, which are all paid for with the taxes we pay. Men should have the responsibility to pay more money on taxes to help cover the costs from their reckless behaviours. Women shouldn’t have to be paying the same amount as men when they don’t use the services as much. Just like with car insurance companies where they charge men a higher rate than women because they know statistically men are more likely to drive dangerously or are most likely to drive drunk. The government should do the same with the tax rates, and have men pay for their behaviours.
Two 34 year old co-workers hold the same job title, complete the same amount of work in the same amount of time, work the same hours, and answer to the same people. On paper these people seem as if they are one person. But as soon as you look at their pay checks you would think they were in two different levels of employment. The only difference though is their gender. The gender pay gap is the general fact women working full time make 79 cents for every dollar a full time working man makes (AAUW Issues: Gender Pay Gap). The gender pay gap is not a new issue. Though it can not be changed overnight, with the right arguments and the right people fighting against it, it can be closed. Closing the gender pay gap can positively effect the United States of America. The gender pay gap should be closed because of the benefits it can bring to employers and
By the 1770s, America had become a free nation. Everyone wanted to be a part of the new, free way of thinking. In 1776, The Declaration of Independence was created by Thomas Jefferson. It was a distinct document created to explain the rights of both men and women in America. This was the first time in history that women were actually given the chance to have rights “equal” to those of men. Later in history, we find that those rights weren’t always carried out for women. For example, women were not always allowed to vote in America, but according to the declaration, they had “Freedom of Speech”. By not having the right to vote, women’s voices were silenced in the American society. Therefore the so called “equal rights” had no meaning according to women. The most famous excerpt from the Declaration of Independence is found in its second paragraph. This paragraph reads,
