In my own opinion, I think that kids shouldn’t be charged as an adult in a capital case because they are just a child. The people that are in charge of this should know that because the kid may have done something, but it doesn’t mean you just go and charge them as an adult. Kids don’t know anything yet in the real world because they have not made it there yet. I feel like kids should be treated fairly because they don’t deserve to get a lot of bad things. They are just kids and sometimes in today’s society, we just don’t care on what we do we people. We can kill them and just don’t look back; this is just sad and it makes me think, are we really improving as a society or are we just looking for satisfaction? When he was a child, he never had a father because he was murdered. (Stevenson, 2014, pg. 196) This is like when I was about to lose my true best friend until I got her back. We are just best friends now because we should just stick that way before we make it worse again. I have cried for 5 days straight because I thought our friendship was going to be gone and I was in a state of sadness. My family and friends has lifted me from the darkness and went to the light. When my mom helped me to understand, I was glad that she helped me because that is what a parent is supposed to do for their child; they are there to help you, raise you, and teach you. I hugged my mom at the end of the lovely advice she gave me. Anyways, back to Avery Jenkins, he had mental illnesses. Therefore, I feel really bad for him because he didn’t had a family to be with and he had to handle all of these mental illnesses alone. Family is very important for everyone and I think that family comes first before everything else does because they have done so much for your education, your life, and your
Please sit down and relax for a moment, and ask yourself the question of all questions: What is most important to you in life? This is a question asked by many psychologists, surveyors and even employers. A common answer is “I just want to be happy and successful and follow my dreams.” But think about it– who really makes you happy? Who helps you become successful? Who inspires you to follow your dreams? To this people generally answer: Family. Now imagine what it would be like to have your family taken from you in the spur of a moment.
For certain crimes, children should have to face the consequences of their "adult" actions, and should be tried as adults. If a juvenile
Teens who commit crimes shouldn’t be charged as adults. It also has to do with the crime, if a teen breaks into a car he/she shouldn’t be charged as adults they should be charged as juvenile. Kids will be kids they will make mistakes but doesn't mean they should have their life taken from them. In the article (Kids are kids-Until they commit crimes) says “It’s a glaring inconsistency that’s getting more glaring by the hour as children as young as twelve and thirteen are being charged as adults in America’s courts.” young teens are getting their life taken away from them, they haven’t learned right from wrong if the court system just gives them life.
In the film 15 to Life: Kenneth’s Story by Nadine Pequeneza the account of Kenneth Young appealing his sentence of four life terms without the possibility of parole is detailed. Young was only 15 years-old when he was charged as an adult for armed robbery and sentenced to life behind bars. Why is it okay for the justice system to charge adolescents as adults? As a nation we can’t logically expect children to be held to the same standards as adults and do so only when criminal courts deem it fit. Charging children as adults for any crime is not only a far cry from being a deterrent but it is also fails to provide justice for all of the individuals involved.
Michele Deith said “Children brains are still under developed, then why tired them as an adult in court”. A child being tried as an adult effect their lives in many ways. The message of loss hope builds up in their minds prompting the idea that they can’t make mistakes. Because they fear they will always be tired unfairly. Also, being in prison for a life time for an ignorant mistake will make them more likely to commit more crimes. Crime records as a juvenile holds less than an adult record. Majority of juvenile cases are only classified as minor offensives. While, some cases may be different because of the crime, children should still be recognized for learning and should be held responsible however, not on an adult level.
On June 16th, 1944, the state of South Carolina executed George Stinney, Jr. He was fourteen years, six months, and five days old—the youngest person ever executed in the United States in the 20th Century. Stinney, who was black, was convicted of murdering two white girls, Betty June Binnicker, age 11, and Mary Emma Thames, age 8, with a railroad spike. The trial lasted three hours, and the all-white jury deliberated for 10 minutes before sentencing George Stinney to death in the electric chair. At Stinney's execution six weeks later, the guards had difficulty strapping him to the electric chair (he was 5' 1" and weighed just over 90 pounds). During the electrocution, the jolt shook the adult-sized mask from
Juveniles being tried as adults I fully believe that juveniles who commit adult crimes should be treated as an adult when being punished. Many people are against juveniles being tried as adults. Aside from being evaluated and diagnosed with a mental illness, I believe they should be charged like an adult if a juvenile commits heinous crimes, especially murder. If a teenager uses a gun or any other deadly weapon to assault another person, I believe his/her mind is developed enough to know that his/her actions could result in the other person's death.
Every juvenile who commits a severe crime should be tried as an adult. Juveniles should understand the differences in between both good and bad. Most kids that are 15 and older are the ones committing the worse crimes, by that age they should understand the differences in between both good and bad. Every person in the world should be able to think before they do, being able to think before you do will help you understand what you're doing and help you understand the difference in between both the good and the bad. The parents of the juveniles should also understand that some crimes are severe and have severe punishments. Juveniles need to know that
Juvenile justice Children as young as twelve and thirteen are being tried as adults in america’s courts. Juveniles should not be convicted as adults, they deserve another chance. Their reasoning is not fully developed. Kids should not be tried as adults they can not do the things adults do.
Kids should be tried as adults because by the time they’re 12 they know that murder is wrong. A 15-year-old stabbed to death a minimart clerk (Lundstrom). He claimed he was just copying a show he saw on t.v (Lundstrom). This shows that kids know when they did something wrong and they try to blame it on things that don’t really make sense. There was another case involving two 16-year-old girls who killed a 15-year-old girl (Sutton). They
Whether Juveniles should or shouldn't be charged as adults and sentenced to life without parole is a long and deep discussed debate between two completely different parties and ways of thinking. Here in the United States things like these happen very often, and most of the times kids are charged as adults and have to spend their whole lives behind bars. I first had a different idea than the one that I have now. In fact, I thought that kids should have been charged as adults if they had deserved it. But after I got to know more about this topic my views changed.
No matter their age, when it comes to serious offenses juveniles should be tried as adults because the understanding of what is right and wrong is known by young children, if they have the ability to commit a crime they should be charged as adults, and without them being trying
What is the point of sending juveniles to federal prison if when they get out they haven't learned their lesson and keep committing crimes? Why is it that a state that raised its family court’s age limit now has the lowest number of young adult prisoners in its adult prisons? These are questions I have been asking myself for the past couple of weeks, and while thinking, I have come to the consensus that juveniles should not be charged as adults for violent crimes.
There is controversy all over concerning the topic should children who commit heinous crimes be tried as adults? There are many factors that play into both countering sides, sparking up deep conversations. Although children are developing psychologically, those of them that commit heinous crimes should be tried as adults. The crazy controversial topic of children being tried as adults have been around for a century according to
In my opinion I dont think kids should deserve to be tried as adults. There just kids that made a big mistake . They should be kept till they turn into adults then release them. After the time they did in Juvenile they will learn from there mistakes and never commit it again. Also should receive the proper education for there selfs and needs to live there life
