Should Gmo Be Banned?

The main proponent to use gmos was to increase food production to feed the world's impoverished and to use less pesticides in farming. Gmos have not achieved any of its goals as world hungry still exist and pesticide use continues to be used at the same rate. The heavy use of pesticides is not good for the earth people or other life forms that come into contact with them. They are polluting our water and land and if we continue to use them heavily we will make our land infertile. Just off of these facts I believe the use of gmos should be reduced as we are fighting fire with fire. You can't help feed people of today by poisoning the land and water for the people of tomorrow it is an inefficient and illogical

In the poem, “A Little Tooth by Thomas Lux, was about describing the life span of a daughter from being an infant to adulthood. With the parents support until their deaths, with no regret. Starting as an infant eating baby food and once they start getting teeth, she moves up to solid foods with the meaning of “meat directly from bone”. Also, how it seems your children grow up so fast, and before you know it they are grown, as the meaning, “it’s all over”. As she gets older she falls in love with stupid people that a father does not approve of.

Professor Richard Lewotin said “An ecosystem, you can always intervene and change something in it, but there is no way of knowing what all the downstream effects will be or how it will affect the environment.” Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are not healthy and they shouldn’t be put in our food. Our nation does not know the full extent of GMOs. GMOs are used in almost all of our food, and for the most part there are no regulations for these GMOs that food companies are using now a days. They have been used for years without telling us the full background and side effects they could have. As a nation we need to take the right step in learning the facts about them and making our food truly healthy. GMOs should be made illegal due to the fact that studies have shown them to be unsafe and harmful to consume.

GMOs foods have lots of unknown factors coming into play. There are many questions to whether they are safe for us and the crops. GMOs foods have been connected to sterile and dead livestock, and damage to almost every organ studied in lab animals. Labeling might also be costing us more than necessary. Some say we should stop using GMOs altogether, but right now it’s difficult to see what choice has our best interests at heart.

In the past decade genetically modified foods have been have made a world of stir about whether these foods are beneficial to our society or if they are actually hurtful.There is plenty information that is available to help support both sides of the issue but for every positive thing there is also a negative consequence.With genetically-modified foods being a trendy topic and being like all great debates it has its prons and cons, so it all comes down to whether the good will supercede the bad, or vice versa.

GMOs (genetically modified organisms) is an organism material that has been altered to improve the productivity and product quality. This creates genes of a plant, animal, bacteria and viruses that do not occur in nature or normal crossbreeding methods. About 80% of processed food contains GMOs. GMOs have raised concern in whether they are beneficial in helping humans suffering from famine, improve production of food or create greater problems for our health. GMOs are bad because they can cause health problems, environmental damage, and violation of farmers and consumers rights. The lack of GMOs labels plays a major part. How will consumers know what they're putting in their bodies? GMOs are used in 80% of processed foods. Yet, consumers fail to begin living “healthy” lifestyle, the consumption of GMO will drastically affect them.

Off and on over the years, I have heard about GMO’s from time to time. GMO’s are genetically modified Organisms. Which basically means that they have been changed by means of science to be resistant to bugs or other issues that crops face. In the American food supply GMO’s are quite common, we don’t even know if we are eating them. As of right now “70 to 80 percent of processed food that Americans consume contain plants that have been genetically engineered” (source 2). This being the case there are a number of ethical concerns raised by this. A couple examples are whether or not they will cause disease or allergies in humans through ingestion or by other means, whether or not they are environmentally safe, and if they should be labeled so that we know that we are eating them. Genetically-Modified Foods, commonly known as GMOs, are crop plants that have been created for human and animal consumption by genetic engineering techniques of biotechnology. These crop plants have been modified in a lab to create a desired trait that has been undertaken through breeding methods. Lately, there has been major controversy and disputes on if GMOs are a solution or a problem in today’s society. Now, a question for debate is, should GMOs be considered part of a sustainable food system? Sustainability can be defined as the ability of something to be maintained or to endure itself, and takes what we, as people need to live now, without jeopardizing the needs of people in the future. GMOs have been around for years and until just recently, people are becoming concerned with them and saying they pose a serious threat to the environment as well as human health risks. On the other hand, some believe that these products are healthy and beneficial for the environment and have a great nutritional quality. I believe GMOs are both health and environmental hazards and are not benefiting society. They pose a threat for the future of food and farming all over the world.

Upwards of 75% of food grown in the United States is genetically modified. Meaning that there DNA has been changed to help a specific purpose. There has been a lot of controversy over GMO production. In Europe, GMOs have heavy restrictions or outright bans depending on the country; as of October 3rd, 19 countries have out right banned the cultivation of GMO products. GMO productions should have stricter restrictions with the U.S. government because the health consequences are largely unknown, GMO products are unlabeled and they pose a threat to farmers in their fight against large companies.

“Do you think GMOs should be banned ? Do you think consumers of GMOs should know what is in their food ?” GMOs are not good for the world because can contaminate our soil , water , and air . GMOs can cause cancer and can destroy our health . GMOs are very dangerous they can cause illness , death and cause the environment to get contaminated . GMOs were banned in the year 2015 thought a bill passed by the government .

I am against genetically modified organisms(GMO). I am against gmo because it modifies something that couldn't previously be done. They have extra genes and use recombinant DNA techniques. This is called genetic engineering. This is used to improve plants, but has tons of toxins, which could endanger pregnant women, have mutations, or organ health risk. Proteins can cause allergies so the FDA has to test and approve them, but could easily make mistakes. There are dangers to GMO. Pesticides may get into the crops contaminating the food and making it harmful for people to see. The nutritional value could be bad or be different from what the normal would be. ¨GMOS are all at a high risk of having toxins from the GMO making process.¨

People don’t think about what they put in there mouth, what it’s made of or where is comes from. GMOs are probably a word most people have no idea what it is but it’s in most of the food humans consume on a daily basis. Jeffrey Smith states that GMOs should be avoided. Companies that make these GMOs tell consumers that its moving towards the future but in reality, it goes against the original organism since it is being genetically modified by Biotech companies. The chemicals that go into the food wasn’t meant to be inside a human being or maybe even any stomach. The consumption of GMOs give you cancer.
