Should Dress Code Be Applied In Schools

“School officials have a responsibility to provide a safe, secure, and productive learning environment.” Therefore, schools have dress codes because the safety of students is very important. A teacher’s number one priority is their student’s safety and to have a good learning environment. All students should have the same right to their education. Is the clothing the students wear distracting others from learning? It is distracting to others, but that is not the only reason why schools have dress codes. Schools also have dress codes because it helps prevent students from being bullied based on their clothing, especially if they wear something offensive or inappropriate. It also helps them prepare for professional environments as adults in the workplace.

In class we have to pick an issue that teens deal with in life. The issue that I picked is dress codes. The reason I picked dress codes is because it is one of the one of biggest issues that teens deal with today. In this paper we are going to talk about dress codes and why they are good for teens and why they should have them.

Conclusively, there are many more important reasons why schools in our country should adapt school dress codes. The schools that participate in the traditional wearing of uniforms, are getting a jump start in the countless number of advantages schools can get to help up their statistics. Learning that there are many minor issues of the judgmental side of the dress code, a few more issues come from the simple fact of students not having to worry about what they are wearing the next day. Additionally, teachers would not have to anguish about getting on the students about their dressing habits. Likewise, not only the teachers, but the parents as well would have a much more relaxing day and would imply the skills that the students need to help

Is it better to have students expressing themselves through clothing, or instituting a dress code, hoping they will focus on studies? Many studies have had evidence for both ideas. Why Student Dress Codes Should Be Limited Dress codes date back to the time of kings and queens. They were made to control what the people wore, what colors they could wear, and what style of clothing certain groups of people could and could not wear. Student dress codes are put in place to help keep a safe and comfortable learning environment, no matter what gender, race, religion, sexuality etc. They unfairly control what students can and can not wear. Although student dress codes have good intentions, they are unfair and need to be limited because they are too strict on female students, take students out of class and send them down the wrong path, and teach girls the wrong things.

Lately, being dress coded has led to kids being sent home or, kids having to change into their PE clothes. Has anyone else ever noticed how dress codes are more targeted towards girls or, limit their freedom of expression? Or, how teachers and staff label girls as distractions? The dress code implies that boys can't stop themselves from looking at girls' bodies, so, it's the girls' fault when boys can't pay attention in math. It's the girls who are taken out of class to change their clothes.

High School should not have dress codes. Dress codes are going to be broken no matter what. Kids like to express their feelings through music, their rooms and you guessed it their clothing. Yes some kids go over the top with their clothing but if your going to punish anybody then punish them. But with that I think high school should have dress codes. With great freedom comes great responsibility. If you want to be the center of attention then go somewhere else and do that. School is for learning not showing off who has the better clothing or who has the new kicks. Learn things that your going to need in the world. How far should kids be able to go before schools stop them from expressing themselves? If you look around the country at the more than 100,000 schools, you will see kids that are being held back from expressing themselves. You will see kids being restricted from wearing certain types of clothing. When schools start dictating what students can and cannot wear beyond reason, that's where the line needs to be drawn.

To some, arguing over student dress code seems trivial and useless. To others, it goes deeper than that. Dress code might seem like the typical “first world problem”, but to the average high school student, gaining the freedom ‘no dress code’ grants is incredible. The fact of the matter is, the rigid enforcement of student dress code has gone too far in today 's society and dehumanizes us as citizens. Although school dress code attempts to promote modesty and protection, it also reinforces gender inequality, smothers individualism, is unconstitutional, and should not be enforced in public schools.

Why can't people be happy in their own skin and feel confident in what they’re wearing? Why don't schools let both boys and girls wear what they want? Of course, school dress code is more lenient on boys than on girls. Why can't girls wear crop tops to school without being sent to the office and being asked to change their shirt? And also not having to be getting judged by everything that they’re wearing. Dress code may have made a lot of people not be happy with their own body, and have low self esteem, because school dress code has made them not feel comfortable in their favorite shirt or shorts etc. Everyone should have the right to wear what they want, even though there is limits students. Now granted, students should also understand that there are things that are inappropriate, but they should atleast be able to go to school and feel happy that, throughout the day they can have a good normal day at school without the students having to go to the office.
