The answer to the question should abortion be legal is a resounding no. There are always alternatives to abortion, despite whether people acknowledge them or not. This is the case, especially, in instances such as a rape or a cephalopelvic disproportion; the cases where people say there is ambiguity in the morality of abortion. Although this is not the most popular answer among citizens, abortion just has no real reason to be legal. Although there will be much opposition to the claim, when abortion is legal, it allows for selfishness, despite its clear alternative. One reason why abortion should not be legal is because it allows selfish and irresponsible people to take the easy way out of the situation. This causes people to avoid the responsibility sexual intercourse exacts because, after all, sex is in fact for reproduction. This type tactic to evade responsibility is portrayed best in the documentary “Abortion Diaries” by Penny Lane. This documentary is surprisingly facetious and acts as if the people interviewed did no wrong to get into the situation in the first place. In this documentary, Penny Lane interviewed several women who had gotten an abortion due to an unwanted pregnancy, and most of their stories, unfortunately, revealed their immaturity. Many of them were having plenty of safe sex, or surprisingly, plenty of unsafe sex, when they were financially unstable. One woman, named Bridget, even graphically says “he asked me if I was on the pill. I said ‘no.’ We had
When touching the subject of abortion, one must consider that there are two sides battling for control. That is right, abortion has literally turned into a war zone where even the unlikely of individuals do the unthinkable. Each side has their motives and methods for contradicting the other. For instance, there are cases and events that support both sides of this issue.
Abortion is widely debated across the world and in 1973 Roe v. Wade would start an issue with ethical and legal issues. There are multiple cases arguing why it should or shouldn’t be lawful to go through with this procedure. Women should have the right to get an abortion as It is her rights to decide if they aren’t able to be able have a child, the woman shouldn’t have to rely on anyone else, she should be able to make this decision as they have to carry it for 9 months and endure the physical pain. Abortion should not be illegal because it is justifiable in cases of rape, or when the woman has mental health or financial issues.
(Premise 3)Although pregnancy is always a risk when engaging in sexual intercourse, many young adults aren’t properly sexually educated. Sadly, some women get raped and happen to get pregnant not by their choice. Why would a woman want to bring a child into the world if it is unwanted? Believe it or not, (Premise 4) abortions are a lot safer than child birth, if performed by a professional. According to E.G. Raymond and D.A. Grimes, “A woman's risk of dying from having an abortion is 0.6 in 100,000, while the risk of dying from giving birth is around 14 times higher (8.8 in 100,000)”[3]. I reply that abortion should be legal, because there are young adults out in the world having sex without proper the education, and in the instances of rape cases where women unwantedly get pregnant.
Abortion should be legal, because there are too many things that go wrong. A women could be raped and need to get one because she doesn’t want to look at the child and doesn’t want to feel it grow, freedom of choosing what to do and how government involvement in personal decisions such as this could lead to potentially having the government deem how many children you can have or even how many pregnancies you are allowed, medical reasons for abortion, and the ability of a woman to have control of her body is critical to civil rights.
Would you want someone, your own mother even, end your life? You, a fetus, a starving being just months alive, which’s only life support is of the mother, becomes injected with a salt solution. Suddenly your small minuscule brain erupts from the inside out, and in a matter of minutes, you are sucked out of your home for short term of your life, and into the trash you go. How can this monstrosity be a legalized practice for over 40 years? Ever since that fateful day of the Roe vs. Wade court case, the United States was never the same. Ever since the stomping ground of Pro-Life and Pro-Choice freedom fighters started back in the early 70’s, as the court case above all other court cases within
The following essay will examine the morality of abortion with specific reference to the writings of Don Marquis, Judith Jarvis Thompson, Peter Singer and Mary Anne Warren. I will begin by assessing the strength of the argument provided by Marquis which claims that abortion is impermissible because it deprives a being of a potential “future like ours,” and then go on to consider the writings of Singer, Thomson and Warren to both refute Marquis claims and support my assertion that abortion is morally permissible primarily because of the threat to the freedom and bodily autonomy of women extending the right to life to a foetus in utero would pose.
Abortion is a debatable question that has been argued over a long period of time. The controversy of abortion has caused or may cause deaths and several violent conflicts between, should abortion be legal or illegal. Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed worldwide also known as elective termination of pregnancy (History,2016). Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This procedure can be done almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley, most common, abortion clinics. More than 40% of all women will end a pregnancy by abortion and remains common in the US. But the questions is should abortion be legal or illegal?
Through every choice in life, there is a decision that must follow. Abortion is a woman’s individual choice; therefore, must be a legal part in todays society. Individual rights have an outstanding role in the controversial topic, on whether abortion should become legal in the United States . The individual rights for abortion show rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As well, women should be able to have the choice to choose to have an abortion for several important reasons. The right to make these decisions should lie in the hands of the “mother” to make decisions concerning their own to make decisions concerning their own bodies. In addition, women should be given the choice to have an abortion if they are too young
What are the ethics of Abortion? I believe ethics of abortion is a controversial topic, in which it involves the act of removing a fetus from the womb of a woman’s body. This bioethical issue has been an ongoing debate for over forty years now. For many people, abortion is a moral issue, concerning the rights of a fetus and a woman’s right over her own body. What are your moral beliefs about abortion and a woman’s right to having one? I am a Pro-Choice supporter. I believe a woman has the right to make the ultimate decision on what she wants to do with her own body-safe and legally. However, I don’t believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control or contraception. Society today, approaches discussions about abortion with caution; for many in society today, believe that it’s an act of murder and against all Godly ways. On the contrary, others like myself believe that under certain livelihood circumstances, the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy should be a
Abortion is a serious topic that people have been debating about for years. Everywhere you turn the topic of abortion presents itself, on TV, in the newspapers, in books and magazines. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. As long as abortion remains legal, pro-life advocates will continue to protest what they believe to be these horrible acts of murder.
Abortion is taking the life of a new human being. Many people would say that it’s not human to kill another person but what makes abortion any different from that? The main reason why many women abort is because they’re too young and are scared of the impact a baby will make in there life, they don’t have enough money to support a child, or their relationship starts failing after finding out they’re pregnant. As a Christian I was taught that abortion is wrong and that only God can determine who lives and dies. Not only is abortion wrong but it can also cause severe damage to your body not only physically but psychologically. If you’re not ready to take care of a child on your own don’t abort put your child up for adoption, there are
The Ethics Of Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many more years to come. The main controversy is should abortion remain legalized? Before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic, the PRO-LIFE, which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO- CHOICE or those who believe it is the woman’s right to
Abortion as an Ethical Issue In recent years, abortion has become one of the world’s most discussed ethical issues. This has made a huge impact on both men and women’s lives. There are many different views on abortion dating back from the Old Testament to the present day. I intend to show you all of abortion’s conventional arguments.
Abortion is the surgical termination of a pregnancy. How odd that people are able to define something, that is such a controversial issue, so easily. There are hundreds, thousands, and even millions of things to say about abortion. When it comes to abortion, I find myself thinking like a symbolic interactionist. Abortion is a personal social issue and it needs to be seen on a micro level first. Although abortion can also be seen on a macro level, seeing abortion on a micro level lets people see the different symbols of abortion. No social condition creates the same symbol. If abortion is seen on a macro level, all the myths and stereotypes of abortion seem more realistic. For example, some of those myths
Just because abortion is legal in all fifty states it is not morally right because a fetus is technically still a person, killing is against the law, and it goes against God’s will for us to have the right to live. In 1973, the Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade changed the course of American history. The outcome of this case made abortion, “the termination of a pregnancy resulting in the death of the fetus,” legal in all fifty states (Abortion Facts). Abortion has become one of the most controversial topics in our nation, and is becoming a substantial issue (Sproul 47). Every abortion takes the life of a child, the most innocent of human beings. Not only does an abortion kill the fetus, but the procedure itself is very gruesome and can cause pain to the child or the mother (Abortion facts). On average, there are around 700,000 abortions per year in the United
