SHREVEPORT, La. – After losing a heartbreaker in extra-innings of game one, 6-5, Centenary (1-7) fell behind 8-0 in the second game in a 9-4 loss as Grambling State (3-9) swept the doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, February 21.
With the Ladies trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the third, junior Anna Dunn was hit by a pitch and scored when freshman Haley Campbell doubled to cut the deficit to one. In the fourth, sophomore Payton LeBlanc drew a one-out walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. Dunn drew a walk, and sophomore Wendy Gillet cleared the bases with an 0-2 double to right. Centenary led 5-4 after four innings.
However, McKenzie Johnson blasted a home run over the right foul pole to leadoff the fifth inning to tie the game.

Caitlinn McDowell (2-3) took the win in the circle for the Tigers, allowing five runs and seven hits while striking out seven in the complete-game win.
Game two saw Grambling State jump out to an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. However, Centenary scored four runs to cut the deficit in half. LeBlanc walked, stole second, and scored on senior Lizzie Moran’s bunt single between the pitcher and third baseman. Grambling State threw home, and Moran took second. A wild pitch moved Moran to third, and she scored on Dunn’s second sacrifice fly of the day.
A walk and a single both scored on Gillet’s second two-RBI double of the day.
Moran led the Ladies from the plate with two hits in as many at-bats with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Lauren Beadle (0-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs (two earned) and five hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
Grambling State scored a single run in the first after a single, two passed balls and a wild pitch. The Tigers added two more in the second on Johnson’s triple, and two more in the third on Allye Hartley’s two-out, two-RBI single.

Freshman Cody Crowder’s single put runners on the corners, and an error on a sacrifice bunt scored Zapata. Trinity then threw an error trying to turn a double play to allow another runner to score, and Guin’s two-out single put 11-0.
During the fourth inning, Colby blasted four hits scoring three runs. Tanner Trusell, Wade Rush, and Bryce Meyers each scored on hits to the outfield.
Centenary led 42-37 midway through the third quarter until Texas Lutheran scored 11 straight. Savannah Hight converted a three-point play and Kasey Hairell hit a pair from the line to tie the game. Hairell made a layup, Madison Ray added a fastbreak layup off a steal, and Bailey Champion hit a jumper.
Facing a two-run deficit, Haley Kodama had a two out, RBI double in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-6. Then, the Wildcats added to their lead with two more runs in its half of the sixth inning for 9-6. In the seventh, Miller hit a two-run home run to make it a one-run game with none out. A fly out, strike out and line out ended the comeback
Aldridge went the distance in the circle for Centenary in game one, throwing seven innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs while striking out four. Mattie Stine added an RBI groundout for Louisiana College. Savannah Settle went the distance for the Wildcats, surrendering four hits and four runs (one earned).
In the first game of the doubleheader Madi Perez, ‘17, (4-0) led the way. She tossed seven strong innings, allowing two runs and on five hits while walking just one Regal batter. Perez struck out more hitters than she allowed on base, totaling up seven strikeouts in the game.
The sixth inning was when everything changed, as the Boom sent 10 batters to the plate, and scored five runs, giving them a 7-0 lead. Matt Piatt notched two hits and RBIs in the inning, including his leadoff home run over the right center field wall. It was his first on the season. Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern), Hoover and Chris Townsend (Central Arkansas) set the table for the top of the lineup when each singled to load the bases. After a pitching change, Daniel Sweet cleared the bases, with a three RBI triple to left center field. Piatt drove his second RBI in the inning in with two outs and two on, with a line drive between the shortstop and third
The Bruins got the run back in its half of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Again, Meyer was involved in the scoring for Pacific in the fourth inning. With two out, Von Ferguson (Everett, Wash.) was hit by a pitch, who would later come around to score when Meyer doubled to centerfield. The play of the game came in the bottom half of the 12th inning and extended the game one more inning. After two of the first three Diamond Dawgs reached, Altamonte Springs coach Kevin Davidson decided to have McCarthy issue an intentional base-on-balls to Marshawn Taylor (Grambling State) that loaded the bases with one out. He then fanned pitcher Mathew Oset (Seminole State College) on three pitches. Devlin Granberg (Cisco Junior College) popped up down the right field line and Tyler Langley (Central Arkansas) made a diving catch to retire the side and allow the winning run to be scored in the next inning.
Freshman Braden Zarbnisky came of in relief of Ross. He pitched 3.1 innings, earning his third win of the season. The right-hander surrendered one run on one hit.

For the second matchup of the year, Metcalfe County Middle School took on Cumberland at home. The 6th grade team started out on, scoring 13 of their points in the first quarter and holding Cumberland to 2 points. The second quarter was low on field goals with CCMS making the only basket. The half-time score was Metcalfe 13 to Cumberland’s 2. Rebounding between the teams were even and Aubrey Glass led rebounding for the Hornets with 7, her game high. Bree Jolly led steals with 7 and Kassady London led scoring with 17. The third quarter was evenly played, but the last quarter would be a surprise to the Lady Hornets. Centenary erupted for nine runs in the final two innings to win another run-shortened game. In the sixth, five errors and four hits, including a blast from Zapata over the high wall in centerfield for his Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading fourth home run of the season, put Centenary up 8-1.
In game one, sophomore Cameron Guin led the Gents with three hits in as many at-bats with three RBI’s and three runs scored. He added a home run to right field in the fifth for his second round-tripper of his collegiate career.
The Wolverines started with a handoff to their running back, De'Veon Smith, who gained six yards. They would run the ball for the next two plays, but they didn't find any luck, and they only gained three more yards. They ended the drive with a field goal, therefore making it 3-0. Clemson wasn't able to answer back with a score, and that began a long stretch of three-and-outs for both teams. This surprised the fans, as neither team could find an answer for their offensive struggles. But then out of nowhere, Michigan’s Wilton Speight was able to connect with his favorite receiver Amara Darboh, for a 45 yard gain. This play ended the first quarter, but Michigan now had momentum, and they were looking to grow a bigger
