A heart beat pounds in her ears. Yet it isn't her own. Strong arms are wrapped around her as she sobs. Muscles flex as they wrap tighter, trying to squeeze out her pain, but instead cause her to yelp. The grip loosens as she backs away slowly. Her head shakes from side to side. It can't be happening. The girl's heart has already broken because of the boy in front of her, but she still stands a few feet from him, her tears staining her cheeks. Why do hearts need so much care? The answer will always be shadowed to her, but she doesn't move from her spot. The boy wants to reach out to her, but it wouldn't be the right thing to do. Her wall crumbles quickly as she runs back into his hard chest. A thick breath escapes him, causing some of her hair to be displaced. The tears she once cried have disappeared, being overshadowed by fear. "I don't want to leave," she says in a quiet voice. His chest rises slowly, lowering as he shushes her. Her resolve weakens as she finally realizes. They never had a thing. They've been friends forever, he was telling her lies the entire time to keep her from meeting a depressed death. Her thin fingers attempt to push him away, but his arms are wrapped around her shoulders, holding her tight. Her hairs stand on end, a shiver courses through her spine. Why does she care so much for this one boy? He's made everything easier and harder in the same moment. With the last of her resolve, she urges all of her strength to push him away. Her short finger nails breaking parts of the skin of his chest, other marks will appear as crescent bruises during the next few hours. She, of course, doesn't realize as she continues her action. Quiet screams escape her, causing the boy's eyes to widen. His mind tells him to approach her, but that's from past experience. He knows she's changed since then. He knows. Even in that very moment, his heart broke. She was drifting into a sea of pain, but he didn't know how to save her. He trusted her. Trusted. Trust was a hard thing to come by in their friendship. Everyone knew that. The pair had always gotten into fights, but for the best of reasons. Only he has known the pain she's gone through. He simply knows, yet doesn't understand. She knows all of this, she knows. Her broken heart understands, and her fragile mind screams at her to stop. But she's a stubborn girl, so she ignores her own pleas. The short fingers nails that once pierced his skin now pierce that of her palms. Droplets of blood slide down onto the damp ground underneath their feet. Her hair swings wildly from side to side, she's trying to deny it. She's trying to deny everything. It doesn't work. Tears are now sliding down his cheeks. They escape his eyes before he realizes that he's crying. He doesn't want her to leave either. It's not their choice though. It's best for her to leave.
