There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the impending dusk transforming the western sky from faded blue to an artist’s palette of muted pink and orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their teenage attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. However, despite his outwardly composed appearance, Tom was anything but calm. His eyes scanned the street, searching for any sign of their suspect. Tyrell Carson was an unknown quantity, and therefore, he needed to stay alert and not become too complacent. While Booker had voiced a certain amount of skepticism, Tom knew all too well the dangers of dealing with teenage felons, and he …show more content…
But first, they needed to infiltrate the gang, and to do so, they needed to play it cool or risk detection.
“Hey, fellas,” Tyrell greeted. “I wasn’t sure you’d show. Nice of you not to keep me waiting.”
Tom stepped forward, the right corner of his upper lip curling into a sneer. “Yeah? Well, when we’re talking about money, we’re always punctual. Right, Brady?”
“Right,” Booker confirmed, his tough-guy mask showing little emotion. He was happy to let Tom take the lead, especially if it helped bolster his confidence. He trusted the young officer’s abilities, and there was no point in them both fighting for the dominant role.
Tyrell nodded at the two teens by his side. “This is Seth and Joel,” he introduced. “They’re friends of mine.”
“Don’t care,” Tom replied in a bored voice. “Let's get down to business.”
A wide grin spread across Tyrell’s face. So far, McQuaid and Brady were living up to their reputations, and he mentally started to visualize all the cool things he could buy with the extra money he would make after recruiting the two misfits. But first they had to pass the test, and with a twitch of his head, he turned and walked toward the back of the building. “Follow me.”
Tom and Dennis trailed behind the teen, their muscles tensed in readiness. Seth and Joel brought up the rear, their heads bowed together in deep conversation. Their voices
“Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt y’all, but can I join your group?” Ryan asked as he looked around for Nikolai, but he was teaching one of the students how to throw a knife effectively.
“Mathew Vellin makes the calendars, so if Mathew trusts him, I trust him, anyway, want to shoot around?” Franklin responded.
"Well, I think I could probably sneak through," Gilbert said while mulling over how exactly he would make it past all of the camera crews and blockades. Ludwig had just been pressuring him to get to class, the last thing he wanted to do was stress him out. He was going to get to class.
Hayden opened his mouth to say something, but his brother cut in. “Of course. It was a long flight. We should get going.”
“A guy with your obvious money?” Tristan said as they walked, lifting his collar against a sudden blast of cold autumn air. “What’s in it for you?”
But although he had no definitive answer, he knew he could not just walk away. There was something he could not quite put his finger on… a connection between them that he could not ignore. Fate had brought them together and even though he was perceptive enough to know it was probably a mistake, he had always been one to follow his gut instinct. Tom was a part of his life, whether he liked it or not and if he could help him emotionally or financially, he would do it in a heartbeat, no questions
The main room is filled with members, unusual for a weekday. You feel their eyes on you, noticing how a few even smirk, probably hoping for a show. You pray Calum isn’t about to give them one. Michael lags behind you, probably already in the know of what’s about to happen. Ashton and Luke stand off to the side and you quickly look away from them, still embarrassed from what happened last night. And that’s
Maggie had grabbed a quick lunch from the cafeteria before hauling ass back to her room. At the moment, she wasn’t interested in spending time making idle conversation with her teammates. She had already been awake longer than she normally would’ve been for one day and her irritation was growing from the forced social interaction. She craved some quiet, alone time to allow herself a break and to prepare herself for whatever Shannon had planned for them next.
“Yeah I can go get my friends to play football and we’ll see what you got to offer for the Vikings.”Said Billy.
Jarrod felt her father’s eyes on him, causing the nerves he’d built up to shake apart, but he got them under control and cleared his throat. “I didn’t know you were leaving.”
"Now to the matter I came looking for you about to start. You haven't seen the boy have you?" Merigal said and Rufius was
“Not yet,” Demitri finished. He turned to the crowd. “For too long now you’ve all led lives of sin. There will be many changes to the laws of this kingdom. Gabriel, our creator, made himself clear in THE BOOK OF VOLPI. We are to be fruitful, responsibly. But our population has run out of control; too many nameless bastards produced from adulterous sex. For this, it is now a sin to procreate. You may fornicate. I will still allow that. See? I am a compassionate man,” he laughed, “No harm will come to those who have already sinned…not yet. But from now on if a woman gets pregnant, I will cut the thing out myself. You will all die sooner or later, but I assure you, your deaths will come at my leisure. For now you are my hostages. You see,
Turning to meet his superior’s steely gaze, Booker started to protest. “But, Coach, Tom’s been here for hours, and they won’t tell me—”
The silvery domes extended with cautious reluctance as if sensing their master's weakness, and Tom grimaced as he clamped his hands to the cold metallic surfaces, immediately looking towards the viewscreens.
“Shut up,” Jones commanded. He strode a little ahead of the group, but turned to glare at Bobby. “We’re almost there.”
