Times have changed. The internet and smartphones were only a dream 50 years ago and now they are used in every aspect of our day to day lives. Technology’s impact on the modern world can be considered a good thing. We are now connected to others like never before. Many different types of computers are currently used in education, the workforce, and entertainment. It has revolutionized the way we do things forever and this is extremely evident in some teen’s entertainment of choice: role playing games with stimulated violence. Games such as “Tag” and “Cops and Robbers” have been outgrown and now teenagers are playing games such as “Killer.” Teens are playing video games on councils such as the Xbox and Playstation with stimulated violence. …show more content…

Sometimes students have to blow off some steam and just have fun. In the article “Shooting In the Dark” by Benedict Carey, taken from the New York Times, Carey states that video games may cause less real life murders and mass shootings because the games allow people to act how they want without hurting actual living people. “It could be that the games provide “an outlet” that satisfies violent urges in some players — a theory that many psychologists dismiss but that many players believe. Or the two trends may be entirely unrelated.” (Carey, 2013, p.2) People that are angry or feel like acting violent can now do so outside of the real world and they can hurt people that are not real. Instead of actually killing the person that gamers are mad at, they can kill people that don’t actually exist. This allows the world around us to be safe and many would be murderers to be rational. Carey goes on to write how the games actually cause a decrease in crime. “ Violence rates are seasonal, generally higher in summer than in winter; so are video game sales, which peak during the holidays.”(Carey, 2013, p.2) In fact, in the article “Violent Video Games May Stop Crime By Keeping Criminals Busy Playing Violent Video Games.” Evan Dashevsky says that as violent video games become more popular, violent crimes decrease. Dashevsky states: “The crime rate in the US has sharply decreased as video games have continually upped the viscera factor.”(Dashevsky, 2013, p.1) Instead of committing crimes when they are bored or feel like acting out, teens now have a legal way to blow off some steam and get an adrenaline
