Diction - specifically, Kahan’s use of the words “uncanny” and “unsettling” - help to illustrate the effect that Michael’s behavior has on his parents by it helping create the illusion that something is not normal in their home. Through the use of low-key lighting, long-shot and dialogue, Hancock made me recognize the significance of friends and family by revealing to me the positive influence one young teenager can have on a range of people - in this case Michael is having a positive influence on Sean, his football team/coach and Leigh Anne. Not only did Michael influence these characters in a positive way, but they influenced him as well and changed him for the better. I'm concerned about the fact that our society is not improving instead it is becoming much worse with all the stereotyping that is rumoured. Avoid stereotyping others because you are not going to receive anything from it apart from putting others down. A million people did not believe in Michael at the start, but I am certain they changed their view on him
Next Michael struggles with getting use to living with someone that he doesn't know. michel gets separated from his family. Aunt Esther always complains about him on the phone. In paragraph 5-10 that got into a fight and he said that he hated her and he said he did not mean
and then they got along. This story shows that Michael struggles with changes in his life. One reason Michael struggles is with living with his aunt. Michael is struggling with living with his aunt is because they always fight and his aunt tries to make him admit that he hates living there.
Mikey’s father is disappointed with his life and is doing things he should not be doing to try to find some excitement and action. He is stuck in life and is unsatisfied with his marriage. He
Michael is more than your average 16-year-old teen. His reality, whether he likes it or not, is some kids dream: professionally playing video games. I can connect to Michael because as long as I could remember I’ve been in love with video games. Video Games to me is like a gateway away from everything, away from life, away from responsibilities, away from the homework that is supposed to be due the following day, and away from the drama that surrounds me. Michael is on his journey to fight and overcome the impossible: “The government knows that in order to catch a hacker, you need a hacker. And they’ve been watching Michael. If he accepts Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid, to the back alleys and corners of the system human eyes have never seen—and there’s the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever” (Dashner). My supercilious attitude towards videogames lets me connect with Michael and his responsibilities. I anxiously away the day that our reality evolves to a point where total mind and body immersion becomes real, and I can truly relate to the book. Another way I can connect to Michael is with his parents. It doesn’t deliberately come out and say what his parent’s occupation is, but does let the reader know that the parents aren’t around a lot, and Michael rarely sees them: “He had to a lot to thank his weathly parents for. They traveled a lot, and at the moment
Michael didn’t want to worry about his real life problems that awaited him when the ship would arrive to England. Michael felt as if he was on a ship were for once he didn’t need to worry about his mom, because he never really knew who she was. Michael boarded the ship with no understanding of what was really to come. Michael meets many people on the ship that impacted his life later
Along with the struggles of growing up in a community where he doesn’t fit the expected “norm” for male behaviour, Michael has an alcoholic and abusive father who believes heavily in the gender stereotypes perpetuated throughout the film and disapproves heavily of Michael’s behaviour. All this strain on Michael makes it hard for him to have a “normal childhood” as he struggles with the challenges of growing up in a community where you don’t fit the “mold” of what a man should be like. This is shown in the scene when he and Billy are wearing tutus and dancing in the boxing hall and get caught by two angry parents who then proceed to call them both “poofs” and “sissies” for dancing together. Michael is also seen at the end of the film to have his male partner sitting next to him. This relates to the audience because at some point in their life everyone feels like they don’t fit in with the majority of their community, whether it is a small difference or a large one people are all unique but sometimes can feel like they are the only one fighting against the world. In Michael’s case he has to grow up hiding his true self and not being able to express his feelings as the community he lives in is heavily embedded in traditional gender roles and stereotypes and does not accept people who don’t fit within the “black and white”
