In the novel “Shattered” by Eric Walters this quote is portrayed in many ways from how kindness, affection, comfort, and relief were represented from the characters throughout the story. Ian is learning throughout the story that not everyone has a perfect life and helping others is the kind thing to do. Mac, being a very determined, optimistic, and caring person was very happy to hear that Ian enjoys helping the homeless. Ian has given people something to eat when they were hungry and realized that life isn't about cars or materialistic things it's about helping people, this relates to Mother Theresa’s quote. In addition, Mac is a very helpful person because he looks around for homeless people to give them the essentials that they need, he does rounds as a part of his job and out of his kind heart. Eric Walters used those specific words for Ian to explain his strong emotions toward helping at the soup kitchen.
