It has the stereotypical teen couple that are ripped apart and once again reunited to only end in a tragedy , to me this sounds kind of like every John Green teen flick he's ever produced , but we still watch them anyway. So he is known to have “ created teens as we know them today” as Stephen Marche explains, why we just love every single remake of Romeo and juliet because, “ People just love to watch a couple of dumb kids make out and die .” And its true , we love to watch those stereotypical chick flick movies, they have a special place in our hearts along with Shakespeare. Shakespeare can also make you connect with his work in such a deep way, just like these inmates at Oldham County
Many people knew who William Shakespeare was, but not everyone knew how is life was in the Elizabethan era. He wrote poems and playwrights that some people liked and others disliked. Many things in the Elizabethan era encouraged and discouraged Shakespeare's writings.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story about two young lovers who are forced to be estranged as a result of their feuding families. The play is about their struggle to contravene fate and create a future together. As such, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would try and emulate Shakespeare’s masterpiece. This had been done before in many films. Prominent among them were, Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 “Romeo and Juliet” and Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 “William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.” Both films stay true to the themes of Shakespeare’s original play. However, the modernised Luhrmann film not only maintains the essence of Shakespeare’s writings, Luhrmann makes it relevant to a teenage audience. This is
From Hamlet to Othello, William Shakespeare’s most famous pieces of literature have been passed down by English professors, lecturers, and poets to be recognized by the young and old people of today. For centuries, Shakespeare’s works have been regenerated into modernized films to keenly depict the art he created. There are two particular films, Romeo and Juliet and 10 Things I Hate About You, that have truly captured the essence of Shakespeare. Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet is about two adolescent teens who fall in love at the first sight of one another at a party. There, they discover that their families are enemies and, therefore, they cannot be together.
William Shakespeare is known to be the “greatest English-speaking writer in history” and an England’s national poet, actor, and an extremely successful playwright. During Shakespeare’s acting career in London, he started writing all about “European geography, culture, and diverse personalities (History.com).” Willm Shakspere or William Shakspeare, as written by him, then went on to write plays. His first three plays were all created around or a little before 1592 and captured the core studied categories; tragedy (Titus Andronicus), comedy (The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Comedy of Errors and The Taming of the Shrew), and history (Henry VI trilogy and Richard III). He wrote plays and sonnets for many theater companies, was one of the main playwrights for the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, which was renamed the King’s Men when James I was in charge, and formed the Globe theater in 1599 with other partners. Shakespeare’s unique language, themes, verses, format, characters, and plots makes his writing universal to every culture and time period. Shakespeare is still taught in school nowadays due to its’ educational and transitional purposes. Shakespeare continues to influence modern-day life and I believe will for a long time to come.
William Shakespeare wrote over thirty plays, one of which, known as Romeo and Juliet, has been labelled the most tragic love story of all time since the early 1600s. Shakespeare’s plays continue to be reinterpreted and appreciated by modern day audiences in the 21st century. Through the entirety of its themes, Romeo and Juliet still captures the imagination of teenage audiences today. Teenagers can connect easily with the three themes in the play of parental rebellion, suicide and love and hate relationships, which are as prevalent today as they were 450 years ago.
The impact of William Shakespeare on American Culture “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them” (William Shakespeare). Shakespeare has left many works that impact high school kids to professionals. The major impact that Shakespeare has on us, is that so many people are required to read his work throughout high school and college. Shakespeare also influenced our language today and how we write. In addition, he has invented about three thousand words, which are added to our english language today.
Shakespeare has shaped the oeuvres of others since the 1600s with his comedies, tragedies and historical dramas:
William Shakespeare was an extremely talented and important person from the 1500’s to this day. He is still taught about in schools today because he had a large impact on society and on our English language. In this report, I’ll be covering his life, like how he lived. His works, like his job and what he did. His accomplishments, as in important things he did. Lastly, his impacts, on us and on himself. I believe you’ll learn much more about William Shakespeare than you did before.
In London 2012 Olympics Games, the opening ceremony started with "the ringing of a giant bell inscribed with a line from a speech by Caliban in William Shakespeare's The Tempest: 'Be not afeard, the isle is full of noises'" (Magnay 2012). Olympics opening and closing ceremonies provide significant opportunities for a country to show the richness of its own culture to the whole world. Given that, the use of the line by Shakespeare for the very first performance in the ceremony suggests that Shakespeare is one of the greatest cultural symbols for the United Kingdom. More than four hundred years have passed since his death. However, despite the four hundred years after his time, the significance that he holds as the greatest playwright and poet
To begin with, Shakespeare's work is not fit for multicultural classroom. In the article “California teacher stirs controversy by taking Shakespeare off the syllabus” (DeBlasis) The teacher, Dana Dusbiber says “Shakespeare’s works don’t reflect the cultural perspectives needed in today’s classrooms” She also says “Schools reading lists aren’t as diverse as they should be to resonate with today’s students and expand their understanding of the world, with many still largely comprised of works by men.” (DeBlasis) Shakespeare has written many plays and almost majority of them are directed towards the white race and not so much
In the American school systems, curriculum for High School English and even sometimes college literature, require that students read Shakespeare's plays. Most commonly, we read The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Why do High Schools require that their students read Shakespeare? Why do we still care about Shakespeare? The answer lies in the human condition. The human condition is what connects all homosapeians and allows us to call ourselves Human. We experience birth, in more ways than one; we grow, on spiritual levels as well as physical; we have emotions, unlike any other creatures on earth; we show aspiration; we have conflicts with one another,
William Shakespeare is one of the greatest playwrights in history. His works are known throughout the world and translated into other languages. Many schools teach Shakespeare to their students as a way to expose them to the roots of modern literature. But, should Shakespeare still be taught today? When looking at his works, many of them include prevalent concepts of sexism, racism, and crude humor.
William Shakespeare is one of the world 's most influential people to ever live. “BBC audience survey names Shakespeare as Britain 's Man of the Millennium.” (Andrews 2) Shakespeare’s works continue to be evident globally in modern society. Hundreds of years after William Shakespeare’s death, his influence continues to make an effect in the modern day English language, modern movies and film, and authors or artists today.
Over the years, Shakespeare or also know as the Bard is “... gradually losing its force as the years go by.”( Robshaw 401-02). His plays doesn’t impact fear in the hearts of today's teenagers . It’s understandable with all the horror games and films. Not to mention that the problems from back then are way different than today’s problems. The “...Bard’s work don’t reflect cultural perspectives needed in today’s classroom (Deblasis). Shakespeare works may have been translated into 75 different languages, but that doesn't change that it originally came from England. Many things has change those past four hundred years, like the technology, education, even the classrooms. If one were to stand it front of a classroom full of kids, what would you see? Well, one may said that all they see is some students doing their school work, but there so much more to it. When you walk into a classroom you don’t just see some students you see hawaiians, chinese, and a few portuguese. This is a primary example to show that things have changed, and Shakespeare just doesn’t really interest the modern day
