In a recent podcast regarding a transgender high school student being forced to change in the nurse’s office instead of in the locker room with other students addressed the controversy regarding the treatment of members of our society who identify as LGBTQ. Throughout the podcast, multiple individuals have voiced support for the school’s decision to isolate the transgender student when changing. Do to the opinions voiced in the podcast regarding this case, I realized that the treatment of the high school student is only one example of the existing discrimination towards those who identify as LGBTQ. Many individuals view America as a place of equality and ample amounts of opportunity. However, America has not always been the image that it portrays. For example, the Declaration of Independence states that, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” But, these, “unalienable rights,” were not granted to women or the other minorities.

This person is the entire world to you, but although it is wanted by both partners, there can be no legal marriage. Because it is illegal to marry someone of the same gender. The United States of America were founded on the belief that everyone is equal and should be free to pursue happiness, yet there is oppression of a sexual minority that needs to end. Although there are many different people with many different reasons opposing same-sex marriage, such as religious or personal beliefs, it should not be illegal to marry someone of the same gender because not all people support it.
The movement of the gay and lesbian population in the United States is one that has been in progress since the early 1900s, and is still facing overwhelming controversy and backlash today. The push for gay liberation in a country founded on Christian morals and beliefs has subsequently led to struggles over equality of marriage, adoption, jobs, and healthcare. One side of the controversy argues that every individual deserves the same rights, while the opposing mindset argues that being homosexual puts you into a group of people that is different, and will therefore be treated as such.

Though it has been proven that homosexuality – the sexual desire for those of the same sex as oneself – has existed since humans have begun documenting human history, the framers of the Constitution did not include the unconstitutionality of discrimination against citizens on the basis of sexual preference, thus, making this discrimination entirely legal. It is, therefore, important to consider the varying views on this issue with an aim of constructing a genuine proposition to the policy makers.
Americans live in a society that seems constantly plagued by various types of discrimination. For instance, ableism, classism, and sizeism are a few examples of the sorts of systematic discriminations that Americans face every day. However, as of late, one of the most prevalent forms that targets homosexual minorities is Heterosexist discrimination. Heterosexism is defined as the discrimination or prejudice against homosexuals (“Heterosexism”). In addition to being prejudiced and discriminatory, Heterosexism is more often than not paired with the idea that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation, and therefore superior.
By quoting the Constitution, the Bible, and any other important documents that could prove that all American citizens are worthy of all types of happiness, I plan to construct a precise discussion as to why the government should rightfully award the LGBTQ+ community gender-neutral restrooms, adoption rights, same-sex merriage, and education in private schools. Most of the information that I have researched about Sexual Prejudice in the United States has many similarities in the accusations and views expressed. National Surveys in the US reveal a lot of focus towards homosexuality, heterosexual attitudes and AID’s in relation to homosexuality in the extent of Sexual Prejudice.
Sexual Prejudice has become very widespread in the United States. It’s the make of all attitudes that are negative including what others create; assumptions that are aimed near people, an association, a group, or established by sexual orientation. The objective can be focused on many different types of sexual orientation such as homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual (Rivera, 2011). The national survey reveals many important factors about sexual prejudice in the United States. I am going to compare and contrast acceptable lifestyles, employment rights, and free rights of expression with sexual prejudice (Herek, 2002).
Looking back throughout history at the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals, it isn’t hard to see that we have made the majority of our strides in the past 10 years. As a society we have decided the time is now to put an end to the lack of rights for people of different sexual orientations. Accepting LGBT individuals and providing them the same rights and protections as all other Americans makes us a more united, respectable Country. Everyone deserves equal treatment and opportunities regardless of what their sexual orientation may be.
The struggle for equality has been intense, and still continues to this day. With this being said, much progress has been made in establishing respect and external acceptance for all individuals sense of identity. For example, in 2015 the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Same Sex Marriages, marking a pivotal point in the civil rights movement for the LGBTQ community. For many, this act helped to support their sense of self, a right that been denied for so long. The United States effectively validated the LGBTQ community, giving this group all rights granted to all other citizen’s, However, the creation and acceptance of this community has not had positive benefits for all members. Imagine living a life where everything you do is looked down upon, a life in which your rights are limited even in a "free country", a life in where you are belittled simply because of one choice, the choice of a same-sex relationship. All around the world there is a social struggle between traditional and modern viewpoints pertaining same-sex marriage. Some fight for the advancement of homosexual relationships, while others would prefer they be non-existent. But in the end, as Americans who strive for liberty and justice for all, we should accept each and every individual and treat them as equals in an effort to strive for the greater good regardless of the fact that you do not agree with the life decisions that they have chosen.
Same-sex relationships date back to Greek and Roman times. They have existed in society for hundreds of years. It was during a culture shift during the Christian revolution that society began to condemn the practice. Our current society is realizing same-sex relationships do exist and have done so regardless of law allowing them to outwardly celebrate their unions. Gay couples have remained secluded in society and covered their living arrangements under feeble explanations and lies. Hiding true feelings and living a lie is destructive to a person’s well-being and happiness. Recently the United States took steps to legalize and recognize unions of all types whether they are of opposite-sex or same-sex. Our country stands for equality and freedom so this is only right that our country take this step along with many others around the globe.
On the date, June 26th, 2015 the United States Supreme Court had legalized the right for same-sex marriage to be legal in all states. As the LGBTQ community and supporters celebrated this amazing accomplishment that they have waited for so many years, there are still ignorant people, who believe that same-sex marriage is not moral and there is no love, like a typical marriage between a man and a woman. The LGBTQ community continues to display that same-sex marriage is okay and love that they show for their partner is the same love between man and woman. In the article, “Gay Marriage Is Legal, but We’re Still Not Equal”, written by James Esseks had stated that even though same-sex marriage is legal in the United States, it doesn’t mean that the LGBTQ community gets treated equally like everyone else. He expresses how that the LGBTQ community should have the same human rights that everyone else has in the United States. He included that there are still problems that still occur when any couple from the LGBTQ community that get denied rights, even though between a heterogeneous couple have.
