As a Business Manager for Heinz, I sold our products in the foodservice industry which included organizations that helped people and served food to those people. I called on a customer who housed women and their children who were victims of sex trafficking. Being from up north, I hadn’t heard much about sex trafficking unless it was in a movie. This organization took the women in and allowed them to bring their children. They educated them and help them learn a trade so they could get back on their feet. I was moved to tears when the director explained to me about the facility and its purpose which moved me to tears. As a woman and one that has two daughters, my heart was broken for these women. I did sell them products at the best
I stand as an outsider looking into a very complex cultural and economic system. I try to understand the perspective of these women but it is impossible because I have not walked in their shoes. Many are resigned to their fate and I wonder if my reaction would not be the same if I were put in a situation in which there were no other options. These women cannot, for whatever reason, be angry about the humiliation and abuse that they suffer, so I feel an obligation to be angry for them and make their plight known to the world.
During the Fall 2016 semester I had the opportunity to intern with Centro La Familia Advocacy Services, Inc in Fresno, California. Centro La Familia is one of a few organizations/agencies in Fresno County that not only provides social services, educational programs, but they also have advocacy and intervention services in rural and urban areas in Fresno County. I was allowed to intern within the victim services department of Centro La Familia, which is responsible in assisting victims of all crimes. My primary task as an intern was to learn and to help the victim advocates of Centro La Familia.Over the course of my internship I have participated in community outreach and attended meetings. In addition, I have done numerous filings, copies, translations, interpretations and filling out forms for clients. I worked closely with two very experienced victim advocates that help me transition to working in this environment, but also worked with other victim advocates to gain even more insight about the victim services they provide.
"An ounce of cocaine wholesale: $1,200. But you can only sell it once. A woman or child: $50 to $1,000. But you can sell them each day, every day, over and over again. The markup is immeasurable." This quote from the 2005 Lifetime film "Human Trafficking", however chilling and horrifying, is true. Human trafficking is the commercial trade of human beings who are subjected to involuntary acts such as begging, sexual exploitation, or involuntary servitude. Human trafficking is an umbrella term used to describe all forms of modern-day slavery. No longer is this a term from the past, but a horrific reality in our present and, unfortunately, our future. Every 10 minutes, a woman or child is forced into labor (McGill 12). Even though we live in
Courage is an important skill in life that can take time to build up but will benefit you and your decisions in life. Risks are decisions you make that can have good or bad outcomes, investing in certain stocks can be high risk high reward or low risk low reward based on how you want to do it. Part of being courageous is taking the risks that others won’t, to push forward and find success. The short story “The Terror” by Junot Dias demonstrates that courage is taking risks others won't with the character change of the narrator throughout the story. This is shown when after the narrator gets jumped by 3 brothers and being scared of them for years he states “I hated these brothers from the bottom of my heart, but even more than them, I hated
Over the course of a month, I dedicated time to volunteer with agencies that focus on providing safe and productive programs for children. Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. My duty for volunteering was teaming with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Services and making SCAN a known organization throughout Richmond community. VCU threw a wellness block party that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she’s seeking counseling for her and the children involved. I and the other young lady volunteering with me were able to give her information on the program and also contact numbers to individuals that could help her situation. This young woman was very grateful and happy she found an organization that could assist her with her situation. From this
Specific purpose: I would like my audience to understand that we live in Texas and are not very far from Houston and that Houston is one of the most intense human sex trafficking regions in the country.
The topic that I chose to do my research paper on is the foundation Eye Heart World. I actually became familiar with this foundation through a woman named Season Russo, who actually created and brought vision to the Eye Heart World Foundation. A little background information about Season and I; I grew up in the church. My Dad is a pastor and Season was actually a mentor to me when I was growing up. She always had the best advice and was always so kind and compassionate to everyone who met her no matter what his or her story was. I remember the day when she came to me and a group of girls and started to tell us about human trafficking (because 15 years ago I personally had no idea human trafficking still existed) and proceeded to tell us that
As I grew and became more knowledgeable and I have a clear view of my morals toward life, helping people become more frequent for me. This is a story that happened to me not very long ago when I was a freshman at collage. One of the most thing I hate to see happening anytime and anywhere is people mistreating someone that is homeless or in need. once when I was just walking by down the street just a few minutes after sunset to get I some fresh air. And I saw from a far a group of young teens gathering around a small corner down the street and went to see what was going on? To see them around this poor person that seem very weak and vulnerable. Forcing him to act in a very disrespecting manner for a very small amount of money. The instance that I saw that I was filled with rage and anger and wanted to jump in and stop what was happing to that man. But they were a group and I was alone so this meant I am outnumbered and would be over whelmed. Even though all of that was true I headed striate for them with a mad face and a tight fist and with no hesitation I shouted to leave that man alone. And all their attention went to me as that shout startled them, they stud there for a moment but as I kept on getting closer they would spread further and further and when I got to them they started acting all innocent. I told them with a stern voice to leave this man alone and never do what they were dong again. I would have
The reason I have been wanting to volunteer with Rahab Sisters and the reason why I did is because ever since I took a human trafficking class at Warner Pacific I have been interested in learning more about sex trafficking and how alive sex trafficking continues to be in
After the illegal drug trade, the sex trafficking is the fastest growing crime industry. Commonly, sex trafficking is referred to as “modern day slavery.” In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of sex trafficking is the illegal business of recruiting, harboring, transporting, obtaining, or providing a person and especially a minor, for the purpose of sex. Sex trafficking is prominent in the KC metro area because it is occuring in hotels all over the area. This issue needs to be fixed because thousands of children are losing their childhoods to the sex trade.
Seven men have been charged with sex trafficking in the U.S and in Mexico. The men age ranged from 20-40 years old. They had been exploiting adult women and underage girls for more than a decade. Officials say it is described as a family business that has been going on since 2000s. The victims had to give all their earnings to traffickers or the traffickers family. The men could be facing life in prison with attempting to commit sex trafficking. The victims were isolated from their families often minors were sexually abused, beaten and enslaved. The men typically worked in Mexico City when they weren’t in the United States and the victims were forced to see as many as twenty to forty customers a day. Travelling back and forth from Mexico to
Fredrick and Pinchfield are two farmers who run different farms. Fredrick is quite rude and shrewd while Pinchfield is easygoing
When some people hear the expression “child sex trafficking” inevitably unspeakable thoughts come to mind, others are unaware this is even happening. Sex trafficking is a serious criminal issue taking place within the borders of the United States, but on the outside of these boarders this crime stands as a reliable source of income for those who participate. Although child sex trafficking is a local crime it is obvious that multiple nations have different viewpoints on the topic. The problem at hand is meeting in the middle where this situation can exist without creating a riot with residents and eliminating the destruction of young children’s lives. Though this topic is a sensitive one, there are ways to allow it to coexist in everyday
I made a difference in their lives because I took the time out to understand their story, where they came from and why they were grateful for change. While volunteering, I helped with different things they do daily such as making tags for different merchandise and sorting through clothes and fabric that they use for different products. I think the biggest thing the women got from other volunteers and myself is respect and to not feel like they’re being judged when people look at them. Just how it mentioned in the book, Leaders should empower employees or others for action (Scott, 2014) is the same way the CEO feels when it comes to acknowledging the work of her staff. Rethreaded, Inc. is a safe-haven and it’s not only a job but a family, so
The amount of skin shown in our culture today has increased dramatically, in our outfits and in our advertisements. We use the human body, both male and female, to sell products ranging from perfume to hamburgers. It has become more acceptable in our culture to see more rather than leave some of the body to the imagination. This is specifically seen in the magazine advertisement for Gucci’s fragrance for men, Guilty. This advertisement targets the male audience, specifically the heterosexual male audience. I will use clearness and sufficiency to argue that the sexual nature of Gucci’s Guilty advertisement effectively targets the male audience because of our culture’s masculinity complex.
