People's beliefs can sometimes put them in several embarrassing situations. The girl's story in the article was an example. I believe that as long as people feel satisfied about themselves and their convictions, they should not worry about anything else. Self satisfaction should be their primary goal; therefore, pleasing others should be avoided. No matter what people do, others will criticize on one way or another. That is a part of humans' nature. Sikhs who practicing their beliefs in their home countries are considered lucky compared to those who live in the western countries. Even if several countries lately started to accommodate Sikhs' needs, Still there are a lot things to do. As an example, media should play a vital role to clarify
"The Landlady" is a chilling short story written by Roald Dahl. As Billy steps through the door of what he assumed looked like any ordinary bed and breakfast in an unfamiliar town he had no idea of what he was getting himself into. Dahl creates a sense of foreboding in "The LandLady" by implying that there is something more disturbing behind the lady's innocent smile. When one good thing piles on top of the other everything starts to become to good to be true. Seventeen year old Billy was on his way to a nearby pub before coming across the bed and breakfast that had captured his eyes.
In an autobiographical story, “Journey by Inner Light,” the author Meeta Kaur shares her audiences her rebellion against her cultures of Sikhism. With her life feeling lost, Kaur began feeling dissatisfied and decided to cut her hair against her cultural belief in order to fit the young American lifestyle. She felt like she had lost her self-identity and her inner connections to her principles. As Kaur comes back home to her family, a mixed feelings of guilt and shame filled her when her mother saw her hair. After realizing her mistake, she returns to her mother and ancestors’ way of life to find a solid ground and foundation based of her people’s way of life. This autobiography made me realize that as much effort we give to run away from our
On September 11, 2001, 19 militants linked with al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks on different locations in the United States. More than 3,000 people were unrighteously killed. This tragedy affected Americans everywhere, but one specific religion was attacked twice; first by terrorists, then by their fellow Americans. Sikhism is a monotheistic religion that thrives for justice, equality, and honest conduct and livelihood. They make up the world’s fifth largest religion, but are greatly misunderstood as Muslim because their appearance embraces unshorn hair, a beard, and turban for those who are Amritdhari or Keshdhari. Since 9/11, thousands of incidents of hate crimes, racial bullying, and racial profiling against
The real judgment and racial issue in society proves how one is treated and respected in the world. During the 1930’s or the Great Depression, in a small southern town in Maycomb, Alabama, during a time of poverty and distress among society, racism is a hugely controversial issue. The protagonist, Scout, describes the town as a town where everyone knew each other, and where everyone was family with one another, proves a point that some people were judgmental and were evil-minded throughout the time period. In To Kill a Mockingbird the idea of racial judgment and prejudice proves that one should step into someone else’s shoes and really see what the person is going through. The story is told from a child's perspective and demonstrates that any
Throughout the depths of recorded history Muslims have constantly committed mass murders upon innocent people in the name of Islam. According to long established conventional Islamic views, Muhammad’s revelations start the Qur’an off in 610. Dating back to as early as 627, the Prophet Muhammad’s followers have been recorded of murdering large numbers of “non-believers” and even believers for that matter (Ye 'or, 1985). While researching wars declared in the name of Islam, the words “convert” or “die” (more often than not they surfaced together making the claim “convert or die”) surfaced exceedingly often. Despite the common belief imprinted into the minds of nearly every United States citizen/civilian whom attended or is attending public school with the U.S., oppressing a people based off of their religious beliefs has the ability to be beneficial to the world on a global scale. Muslims should not be allowed to act as political advocates considering Islam gives approval of segregation, provides obligations of the religions followers to commit senseless acts of violence, and because of the fact that Islam allows systematic lying as a religious policy. Throughout this research essay we will discuss facts in regards to traditional and modern Islamic ideology while deciding whether someone of such beliefs has a place in a position
In 1998 a convert to Islam who showed up at work wearing a headscarf was told by her employer at domino’s unless you take that stupid thing off you have to leave. The employer soon learned his response to her was more than rude. (Diane, A New Religious America pg. 492-493). Religion is displayed everywhere we go, raither we like it or not. Like offices, schools, stores, and many businesses. There will be someone who shows that they are religious and there are going to be some that are afraid to show any signs that they are religious.
Those who are raised within one religious tradition may find it difficult to understand the traditions of another religion. It is not until one is educated in the basics of the other major world religions, that it is possible to see the many similarities between them. Just as there are many similarities between the countries culturally, the major religions share more things than they are different. In viewing Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism with an open mind, it is easy to see the differences, similarities and ideals that make these religions as widespread as they are.
Horsheads, N.Y. (WENY) -- Voters are heading to the polls in the southern tier and throughout New York State. This year's primary is shaping up to have a strong impact on the presidential race.
I was a raised as a Christian. In many respects, it was founded on the same premise as other major religions that are still practiced today. Over the last centuries, it evolved into different denominations. Despite this branching out within the religion, at their core, they maintained the same core values. As in most religious faiths, the goal is to provide a moral system that governs interpersonal relationships, and sometimes spiritual relationships.
Sikhism was founded in the 15th Century by Guru Nanak Dev, in the Punjab region of India.
Sikhism started in India in Punjab. Now this religion is mostly located in India but it is also in a lot of Canada.
In conclusion, I just want to say that we (as people) need to stop judging people because of their race, culture beliefs, and their religion. We need to respect other people’s religions, and need to stop treating them in negative way. Also, avoid if there is any misunderstanding about any religion out there in the
On the occasion of someone is making fun of what you believe in, it becomes the focal point. The beliefs of people is the way they can achieve what they want, and they could just keep believing about what they want to accomplish. I agree with what people would believe in;therefore, those who have strong beliefs they could succeed in their careers and everything they do. Those who believe on what they see and they believe on what their religion is. Everyone has their own thoughts on how they see life the way it is. I agree with those who have their beliefs in everything, and with those who believe what others tell them. I think they should keep believing, and they should do what they believe in and what their religion tells them to do. They shouldn't let anyone stop them from believing, or they shouldn't let others talk bad about their religion. In the Holocaust, six million of Jews were died by the 1940’s by the Nazis for the reason of the beliefs that they had. The Jews fell into the racism of the
It was only when my freshman Social Studies teacher went beyond the curriculum and taught the class about Sikhism did I feel more comfortable being myself. My religion-Sikhism- is important to me. Unfortunately, many Americans are uneducated about it, and my student body serves as an example. 80% of the students in my grade at Francis Parker are Caucasian. When I first came to study here, not only was I intimidated by this, but the students were insensitive towards my faith.
