Butler (2206) suggests an evaluation instrument that directors of the Senior Companion Program (SCP) and other similar programs can use to collect data on the impact of their programs. This instrument consists of two open ended questions for both SCP volunteers and their clients, and two standardized measures: the Lubben Social Network Scale (LSN-A) quantifies a client’s contact and support; and the Center for Epidemological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) which measures “the frequency of depressive symptoms in the previous week” (p.52). Butler’s (2006) evaluation tool is administered at intake and periodically over time to elicit participants’ feedback on their experience with the program. One of the strengths of this tool would be providing
This month’s Senior is Nasario M. Rodriguez. Nasario was born in Poteet, TX in 1921. He served our country in WWII but was stationed stateside in Long Beach due to his two older brothers losing their lives while serving in the European battles. After his service term ended, Nasario married his true love Adeline and they settled in Hawaiian Gardens in 1954. Together they had 5 children and many grandchildren. Now a widower, Nasario tries to stay active by walking daily, taking in an Angels game, participating in family activities, taking an occasional trip to Las Vegas and interacting with his fellow seniors.
Husky Seniors are almost at the end of their high school career! So we interviewed them and found out there college choices. The first question that was asked to them was, “Where they are going to school?”, and here are where the twenty four seniors that we got to interview answered. Nicole Bock is going to Cal Baptist and Jessica Maier is going to UC Santa Cruz. Ryan Matthews is going to UC Riverside and Josh Parga is going to Cal Poly Pomona. Alyssa Guzman is going to Birgham Young University and Savannah Bettis is going to San Jose State. Jaime Marquez is going to Cal State San Bernandino and Marc Lim is going to UC Berkley. Austin McCullah is going to New York University and Akshar Patel is going to Stanford University. Ryan Diaz is going
I want to be a member of the Herbert J. Saunders National Junior Honor Society because I want to help. I want to help the homeless, I want to help the Native Americans, I want to help sweat shop workers in Asia, I want to help starving children in Africa. Sure, it’s selfish of me wanting and accomplish so many things in my life time, but I truly believe that the well-being of a living and breathing animal is the number priority of human existence. To take care of the Earth and everything living on it, whether it’s human or not.
The Geriatric Depression Scale is a 30 question self-report assessment used to identify depression in the elderly (Mental Disorders, 2013). The questions are answered with “yes” or “no”, and ask things such as “Do you feel happy most of the time”, or “Are you hopeful of the future”(NeuorscienceCME, 2013). The points scored on the test depend on the question; there is an answer grid. For example, the question “Do you feel that your life is empty” should be answered with no. It the elderly person answers with “no”, then no point is given. If they answer with “yes”, then a point is added (Mental Disorders, 2013). The lower you score on the test, the less likely you are to be depressed (NeuroscienceCME, 2013). The Scale is also available in a 15, 5, or even 1 question format (Edelman, 2010). The assessment is useful because it allows health professionals to know how the patient feels, their mind set, which will allow that patient to receive treatment in the form of therapy or antidepressant medication (Edelman,
The following section describes the HLSP. The programs primary target population is local/remote senior citizens that are at risk of and or presenting with social justice, health, emotional, criminal, isolation and or exclusion issues. Consequently, the programs secondary target population is for carers, families, friends and those responsible for their care. Additionally, the goals of the program is for members to take part in their community by encouraging interaction and friendship amongst the members and workers, maintain, improve or develop healthy living and lifestyle standards and in some cases to provide respite. The day program offers a range of activities and support, including:

This document is used to view client’s progress. The evidence base Research measurement used in this evaluation was entered into the social worker’s intake procedures and also their six-month evaluation procedure. An online copy from the (EB) is uploaded on the IRB Intranet to capture the results of each client’s (EB) measure. The social worker can follow the revised client’s intake and six month’s progress procedure was evaluated during the program’s quarterly internal audits. These quarterly internal audits found social workers complied with the procedures 100% of the
In the novel Enrique’s Journey I feel Enrique is a perpetrator of crime. He unlawfully enters the US in the hope of finding his mother. Yes, it is a heartbreaking story, but that still does not excuse the fact that he broke the law. There are some dangers when attempting to illegally enter the US such as death and diseases. Death is a concern for the person trying to enter the US; they can be killed along the way by countless different ways, such as: Starvation, dehydration, burns, falling off of trains, freezing, and murder. They also can bring diseases into the United States that can kill many. When Unaccompanied Alien Children are apprehended Border Patrol and other guards are forced to watch and care for them. Some children may have diseases and a guard may catch it. Many undocumented people lack basic vaccinations. This is not only affecting the person who is travelling, but others around them too.
I believe that National Junior Honors Society can use an excellent student such as myself. Many of my teachers say that I am a hard worker with an amazing attitude. In sixth grade I attended Cambridge Academy and was elected President of my school, even though it was my first year there. I encouraged classmates by competing with them to see who gets the better grade. During my time of presidency I read the morning announcements. At assemblies I led the pledge of allegiance. Student council and I volunteered at the United Food Bank and helped sort food. Finally, I helped organize school activities and dances. I enjoy playing most sports. During sport activities I am often elected captain. Last year I was on the football team and even if we

In Chapter 15: Aging and the Elderly, the U.S. birth rate has been falling for more than a century. It happens because children are more likely to survive into adulthood, and so couple have fewer children. As more women work outside the home, they choose to have fewer children. Greater material wealth and advances in medicine have raised living standards so that people benefit from better housing and more nutrition. The oldest segment of the U.S. population, is increasing rapidly and is already forty times greater than in 1900.
As people get older they lose independence, they become less mobile and aren’t able to do everything for themselves any more. It is important to ensure that they keep as active as they can to ensure they keep their independence for longer.
Program evaluations have made contributions to the Mental Health field for many decades. In the past program evaluations have been conducted outside the scope of a traditional Marriage and Family therapy framework. Sprenkle (2003) elaborates that MFT’s have been trying to move towards evidence-based research and evaluations. Trying to find the balance between evidence based and a systematic approach. What is also an area that poses some challenges is counselors and therapists trying to implement programs into existing organizations (Sprenkle, 2003). Program evaluations are able to provide useful information to MFT’s to aid in making improvements (Mertens & Wilson, 2012). Merton & Wilson (2012) explain that evaluations may also interfere
Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) is a pan-theoretical approach that allows researchers to view/measure the therapeutic alliance between practitioners and their clients. Research informs us that those practitioners often rely on their own perspective when assessing the strength of the relationship. It has been proven that the client’s perspective is a better predictor of outcome. Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) requires the social worker to routinely solicit feedback from clients acknowledging the therapeutic alliance and the outcome of care that the client is receiving. A benefit to this EBP model is that it allows social workers to see/learn what they need to do in order to fully serve their clients. The results of this EBP model not only inform the social worker of his/her progress but it allows the social worker to tailor his/her service delivery through utilizing two scales… The Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) and The Session Rating
Depression in late life is very common, particularly in older adults who are moving in to a different phase of their lives. They may experience a loss of a job, death of a spouse, empty nest, or a move that has taken them away from their social network. Geriatric depression is expensive for everyone involved, from the seniors who suffer not only mentally but physically from its effects to the increased use of health services such as emergency room visits. Suicide is also a consequence of depression in seniors. Sometimes depression is not diagnosed properly because its physical symptoms can mimic other illnesses. Many women, ages 55 and up, experience feelings of loneliness, isolation and do not know what to do now that they are in this new stage in their life; not working etc. Is the women’s group effective in helping members overcome feelings of depression and isolation?
