For the 2016 Senate race for the state of New Hampshire there were two women running from the two major parties(Republican and Democrat) as candidates. For the Democratic party, then governor Maggie Hassan sought to win a seat against the incumbent Republican Senator Kelly Ann Ayotte. Maggie Hassan won the seat against the incumbent which was really surprising as the Ayotte won the primaries by a huge margin. Hassan received 47.97% of the vote while Ayotte received 47.84% showing that the margin of win was really slim. In the race, there was also an independent candidate, Aaron Day who received 2.40% of the vote and Libertarian candidate Brian Chabot who received 1.70% of the vote. There were many issues that the candidates focused on …show more content…
They both received BA degrees then went to law school to get their JD. Ayotte is a graduate of Penn State. They both served as governors at time for the state of New Hampshire. Looking at the political, social, and economic characteristics of the state, it a described as a swing state. It has been highly moderate in selecting candidates as no party has had the upper hand. It is also a state that has a very large legislature therefore making it possible for many women to serve. Economically, New Hampshire is progressive in industrialization thus providing many jobs and tax incentives to owners. Socially, the state is facing problems with health especially the opioid crisis. Other than that, they have legalized same sex marriage therefore being more progressive than other states. There was a lot of media coverage for the race according to my research. CNN, USA today, and Fox News all reported information on the candidates and results of the election. They provided accurate information that I didn’t think was biased. However, since this election did take place near the presidential election there was a lot of comparison between the candidates of relating to Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. They were often portrayed as relating to the major party’s presidential candidate. However, Ayotte did try to distance herself from it by publicly going against Trump by stating she would not vote for him. I think it's really interesting
Kiran Shrestha Professor Sharifian GOVT 2306-73433 30th April 30, 2018 Assignment Three After I win the Texas Senate election my every work will be for the benefit of every Texan and U.S. citizen. One of the most debated topics in American politics is whether term limits should be implemented for Federal Congressmen and Senators. Currently, members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms and those in the Senate serve six-year terms, but there are an unlimited number of terms a person can run for in these legislatures (Barbour 217). It's important to analyze the arguments for and against term limits for Federal Congressmen and Senators in order to grasp a better understanding of this subject. One argument supporting the implementation of term limits for Federal Congressmen and Senators is that it allows for new blood in the Federal government. Since term limits limt how many terms a Federal Congressmen and Senators can serve, term limits would then cut out career politicians that prioritize their time on reelection then the problems of the constituents.
The main difference between the House and the Senate is that the house puts all responsibility on the national government while the Senate positions the responsibility onto the states when it comes to creating their health insurance exchanges. It seems as though that if a state fails to do it they are then under the hand of the House and not the Senate. While both bills are aiming towards a similar result they go about it in different ways. Exclusivity of the health insurance exchange is one way they differ. , The Senate wants non-group health insurance to be sold outside of the exchange where it will be less regulated. The House calls for all non-group health insurance coverage to be sold through the health insurance exchange.
In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year's election results and costs. Finally, I will discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics.
The Alabama State Senate Race began as if any other political campaign to set out to find the best-suited person for the job. What the candidates will do for the people when one person elected to the United States Senate seat. It takes two people from each state with staggering terms to make up the United States Congress. Since Jeff Sessions relinquished his seat when he took the U.S. Attorney General position back in February of this year, the seat was occupied by Luther Strange to wrap up the term until a special election could be adhered (Foran, 2017).
The special congressional election in Montana took a violent turn the night before the election, as Republican candidate Greg Gianforte was accused of assaulting Ben Jacobs, a reporter for the Guardian. Gianforte, and his Democratic opponent Rob Quist, are running to replace Ryan Zinke, who was appointed by President Trump to serve as the Secretary of the Interior. While the election as been touted in the media as an early referendum on the Trump administration, the allegations of assault have changed the narrative of the election. The election is now a referendum on the importance that voters in Montana place in protecting journalism.

As per Texas State Senate election of 2012 and 2014, for district 16, there were no democratic candidates for the state senator election. For 2014 election, the candidates for the election were Don Huffines (republican) and Mike Dooling (libertarian). There were no democratic representatives for the past few senatorial elections because people have an assumption
She was the most qualified Politician to run for president in 2016. She was known as a political veteran because she had been battle test as former secretary of state. Her opponent Donald trump seemed unelectable compared to her by normal standards. His victory was surprising to America. His ace was Kellyanne Elizabeth Conway. Donald trump fired two men who ran his campaign before Conway. Conway was on the news almost every single day to sort out the slip ups Hillary's opponent would often make. Conway's strategy was vilify Hillary as much as possible. She was great at conceiving voters that voting for Trump was voting for damage control. Conway's Trump campaign was a witch hunt for Hillary. She succeeded in defeating Hillary. Hillary's campaign lost by less than one percent in 3 key swing states. Her loss was less than Jill Stein's votes, which hovered around one
Supreme Court justices have life-long terms. Because of this, there are few nominations for a new justice. In fact, for two hundred and thirty years, there have been only one hundred and twenty four justices. This means that from around 1787, there have been only 124 justices! Due to this, there is much debate over how to go about nominating a new justice, when the time does arise. It is ultimately up to the Senate to decide who the next Supreme Court justice will be.
Supreme Court is the final court of appeal in the judicial system and also it is the top most system in the court’s line in ascending order from the smaller category of the courts to the higher category, in which the Supreme Court, in many jurisdictions is the highest hierarchy.
Overall the committee experience was very thoughtful as it brings the model senators into an atmosphere that they could represent their senator’s ideologies more freely than in the floor. With Senator Casey, the committees were very thoughtful as not only Casey follow his state ideas but his own also. And an example at that is how Casey debated over the bill of healthcare thinking about the college students or the youth in overall who doesn’t have a parent and that need a healthcare that they can afford or get for free with their income. Not only he was in favor all the time with the democrat's bills but he himself also agree and voted yes for them pass so it could not only beneficiate his state but the United States in general. Furthermore, the impact of the constituency on a senators vote was very strong as not only made the party to reflect their choice but to help and bring a better offer on the bill, in this case, the bill of Human Trafficking in the H.E.L.P committee. As the book state "constituency context is another powerful influence on member's vote choices."(Davison, 264) A great example of what is said already is
Political campaigns are very significant in American politics and elections. It is the period before the electorate makes political decisions in the form of elections. The attention of the citizens towards politics intensifies as the date of the elections draws near. The salience of voters improves as the election date draws near and could manifest in the form of increased media attention. Political discussions, campaign interest, strength of the intention to vote, and knowledge about the candidates are other manifestations of increased salience of voters. Another indication of improved intensity is the effort put by the candidates and their political parties in the campaigns. Parties increase their efforts in the
The election process in the United States is a valuable process to the election of the proper officials to satisfy the people. The people run the country which is why we live in freedom because we control what happens with major decisions by choosing whom we want to decide these decisions. The whole country goes to vote on a certain day and by the end of that day we will vote to select who will run the country, state, county, or city political positions. The most complex decision and one with the biggest impact are selecting who the President of the United States shall be. We examine what their views are and who would do a better job. Then vote in our respected states with a certain number of electoral votes
In short fiction is important to have a complex protagonist character. Characters exist largely for the purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the story through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good story. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s quantifications as what constitutes a short fiction story protagonist, Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay’s work, “Redeployment” is an excellent example of a short fiction protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an outsider, and is a reluctant hero.
