As my semester Ecology Project I will be going to teach an elementary school class a lesson on how to preserve our desert environment, as well as how to protect our endangered species of the Mojave Desert. To complete my project, I will need to present my project to Ms. Slayden’s second grade class at Yucca Mesa Elementary School on Monday, October 16. I am presenting this project by bringing in Trifold boards, pictures, and orally presenting most of the information. In addition to presenting the information to the students, I will create some sort of scavenger hunt for the students to do in the school’s library. All of these steps will be made on or before October 16. As an effect of me presenting to Ms. Slayden’s class, the environment will be helped by the …show more content…
To prevent this problem, I will accommodate the lowest level child, so everyone above that child will succeed, including that child. If this problem still arises, I will need help from Ms. Slayden to help me explain what I am saying to the child, or children, that don't understand what I am saying. Another problem that I might face during my presentation is to keep the children on task, and getting their full attention. To solve this problem, I will make my presentation entertaining, and involving for the kids. During my presentation, I will be having the students do an activity. This activity is for the kids to go on a scavenger hunt for pictures of endangered animals of the Mojave Desert which I will hide around the school’s library. Before this scavenger hunt, I will need to explain some safety rules to the kids. These rules will consist of the kids not running through the library, pushing each other, and wearing proper shoes. Since it’s a scavenger hunt, the kids may run to be done first, which may result in someone with an injury if they fall, or try to push each other. To prevent these things from happening, Ms. Slayden and I will monitor the kids
When in a setting it is important that you ensure that you and parents are working together to ensure that that child is learning the best possible way. It is key to ask parents to
Put all the blocks on the table or ground. Invite the students over. I will tell them that they will be building a house for a Dog today. Ask them what they think they will be using to build the house. Tell them that they will be using play dough and blocks. Clarify that pretend is not real. We can pretend to cook at the play kitchen or pretend to be a dog. Explain that mice cannot really build a house with blocks and clay. This is just pretending and the Dog they are using in their activity is pretend only. Ask the children what they like to pretend to be or do when they grow up.
I did this activity with 3 children. I first had them sit down while I read the book “Sort it Out” by Barbara Mariconda, after reading the book we talked about the different items that Pack rat came home with, and how his mother told him to sort them out. We discussed what items at home had to go in a particular place, for example, dishes in the kitchen, beds, in the bedrooms, toilets in the bathrooms, to list a few. We followed by talking about the types of shoes we were wearing, and the color of the shoes. How we were all wearing sneakers, and how every one was wearing a different color. I Introduced them to the Jumbo Pegs, and the Pegboards, and I went over the different colors inside the tub. I asked they what their favorite color was, and once we they had all chose their color, I asked them to grab a pegboard, and look through the container for the color they choose, and place them into the pegboard. They all started
Another activity that I took part in was bubble painting. This was where I put paint in a tray and added water. Once this was mixed properly I got the children to use a straw and blow through it to make bubbles. Once the bubbles were there a piece of paper was placed over them to create a bubble effect picture. There were two different trays of which one was purple and the other one was orange. This is so that they were able to make their own choice on what colour they wanted to use.
Finally, I will engage the group in creative activity by doing Easter word Hunt search worksheet. Again, I will distribute the worksheets along with a pen to each member. I will explain and demonstrate the first word in the Easter word hunt search worksheet and allow the group to complete the rest for 20
This animal thrives as it is highly adaptable, therefore it is perfect for the harshness of the Mojave Desert. Mojave Food Chain
The loose parts that I am collecting are empty egg cartons. They can be recycled instead of being thrown in the trash when they are emptied. There are many ways that the children can use them. Some ways will probably be things that they just imagine in their mind and want to recreate. They can be used with other things in the loose parts area to create things. If the children want to use them alone they can do that too. A few ideas that I seen on Pinterest included cutting each holder apart or cutting them into groups. After they are cut the students could paint them to make an object or paint them randomly to add color to the loose parts area. One picture that I seen on Pinterest, cut them into 12 individual pieces, painted them, and used
The first person to fill in all of their squares without repeating a name wins. Tell students to raise their paper and call out if they think they have won. 7. Give students time to complete their scavenger hunt. Walk around the classroom while students are engaged to make sure everyone is playing fairly and nobody is running. Call time when a student has announced they have finished and have students quietly freeze where they are standing while you check the possible winning sheet. If the student is mistaken, have the class resume the activity. If not, ask students to return to their seats. 8. Discuss the scavenger hunt with students. Who learned something new about their classmates? What did they learn? Why was it important to use good listening skills during the scavenger hunt? Why was it important to use good speaking skills? 9. If time allows, students can practice their reading and listening skills online with interactive stories at this Web site http://www.alfy.com/Storyville 10. 11. Evaluation: 12.
Above all, the point of G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. is to inspire and influence people to get creative! Some things from the 2012 list that teams had to find, or create, were as follows: “Find an object that was manufactured the day and year you were born in the city or town of your birth. Get your team name and "GISHWHES" on a billboard. Must include commercial-looking graphics, and be on an actual commercial billboard at least 100 square feet in area. Hand in coats you've collected from your home, friends, and neighbors to a local homeless shelter. Get an orchestra in a symphony hall with at
Give attention to individual children and young people in a way that is fair to them and the group as a whole
For this activity, I decide to do the Blanket activity. Why? because it takes the participants out of their comfort place. It makes them think out of the box and its fun. I decide to pick kids from middle school to see if they do it faster. Some of them were cousins, others were friends of my cousins, so we had about 12 middle schoolers. The supplies were few, only a blanket and their participation.
Angel Villavicencio and I Luis. Alvarenga will be heading to Landers Elementary school to present the fourth grade class taught by Ms. McCall information about Earth and its ecosystem. As we go into each presentation, we will question the students to see how they are gathering and receiving the information. We will be going to the class for four days spending fifteen minutes each day. We will use the materials provided in the room such as the whiteboard to get our information through to the students.
The environment will be helped by my project because plants need to be trimmed to be encouraged to grow. Plants also need to be pruned allowing room for other plants to grow. Pruning the plants helps replenish the nutrients in the soil. Pruning the plants allows worms to decompose the leftover debris from the plant. The plant may use the nutrients the worm makes.
When discussing these issues with the child’s parent I will make sure I am kind and considerate. I will ensure that the parents’ know that they are involved in all decisions affecting their child’s education and learning. I will be
The ability of biology students and biologists in general to identify species in the wild is important, and especially crucial concerning the specific organisms that they research. It is essential to the success of biological research that biologists they can correctly identify the organisms which they are studying. Improper identification of species in the wild by a biologist could result in incorrect data, misuse of public funds, or a misunderstanding of the trophic structure of an ecosystem, potentially derailing conservation efforts. Biologists are at the core of biological conservation efforts, and having well-trained researchers is imperative. Respected biologists are immensely knowledgeable about their subject matter, including species
