To verify the first indicator, a survey will be used. Surveys can gather large amounts of data, and can be administered through mail, e-mail, or face-to-face. As this survey is in the process of being developed, it is essential that the survey undergoes testing to ensure the survey is measuring what it needs to measure. A method that will be utilised will be a survey with a rating scale used as the tool to measure service user satisfaction. The Likert scale is commonly used to measure a person’s attitudes or behaviours, using answer choice that ranges from one end to another (Kuma-Tan et al. 2007, p. 550) (appendix 1). A Likert scale survey can identify the different levels of the service user’s opinions about the staff’s cultural competence (Mellor & Moore 2014, p. 369). In order for our organization to increase the cultural competence, our staff must be trained on how to provide patient care and services in a culturally competent manner. Training that is based on facts cause our staff to become limited in the acts of cultural diversity, but we can combine facts with skills that are more universal to accomplish a successful cultural competence. The instrument used in the BIMS survey is the Likert scale. The Likert scales is used for training course evaluations and market surveys. The survey that Debbie conducted was in hopes of the 449 employees of BIMS to express how they feel about certain areas of the company. The survey included questions in reference to working conditions, shifts, training, and pay rate. In this scale the top choices used in the survey are strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. The Likert scale is used to assign quantitative values to qualitative data. This scale helps to make the data responsive to statistical analysis. A numerical value is given to each choice and the mean for responses is computed at the end of the evaluation. Debbie made the survey optional and top management was not required to reply.

I have learned over some years by watching those that mean a lot to me let their lives become of nothing because they do not worry about their physical appearance or the foods that they eat, and even though you can give them all the advice to try and persuade them they are determined to do what they feel and what they want to do.

At the risk of sounding stereotypical, I can honestly say I have always been known as a “helper”. Even in elementary school, I demonstrated a passion for working with other people and fighting injustices. First, at age five, I held a yard sale for Hurricane Katrina victims and conducted a community food drive to send to New Orleans. I recognized that many of these individuals were not receiving adequate assistance and that I could make some type of difference, no matter how small it may be. I remember giving myself goals and tasks throughout the day as a child. One of the earliest goals that I recall setting for myself involved showering and getting dressed after singing one of my favorite songs ten times. As aforementioned, I had to resort to singing because at that point I wasn’t able to tell time yet. However, I knew that setting and reaching this goal made time go fast and I felt happy. In reviewing the reading materials, I related to the main concepts of: emotional well-being and pursuing goals in innovative and positive ways as a formula for happiness; I appreciate the self-control theory and how it was linked to depletion of resources; and finally, processed my feelings about personal disclosure of persona on the internet.
When asked to describe myself, I am not solely a one-sided card, I am a decagon of collective interests and identities. I am: an eldest child, a sister, a Latina, a volunteer, a student, and a determined first-generation college graduate. Without one, I am no longer myself. Because of this, each side has molded me into the person I am today and as time goes by I will gain more sides to myself and continue to grow.
