Selene was the goddess of the moon. She was the daughter of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Father Sky). She was one of the Titans. She was the immortal sister of Helios (God of the sun) and they were responsible for the movements of the sun and moon across the sky.
Other goddesses were also associated with the moon, however, only Selene was represented by the old Greek poets as the moon incarnate Selene was was described as a goddess very beautiful, with long wings and a golden diadem, calling her "white-armed" and "benevolent".
