Between a microphone and an amplifier which one has more impact on the audience? An amplifier because they can hear the microphone. If the microphone isn’t hooked up to the amplifier than they are just useless because they can not be heard. If you are heard you are more powerful and that’s what I believe happens in Animal Farm. In the political novella, Animal Farm by George Orwell, It tells a tale of a powerful revolution that ends up going awry due to the corruption of power. This novel is a metaphoric form of the Russian Political Revolution and shows the transition of socialism to communism. I believe that Squealer is the most to blame for the fall of Animal Farm due to Napoleon being just the idea/face of the system, Squealer manipulating …show more content…
The first reason that squealer is the culprit of the fall of Animal Farm is due to Napoleon being a mere idea/face. Napoleon is just the idea of the revolution and is terrible at executing and spreading them. It even states that in the beginning of the book “ Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive, but was not considered to have the same depth of character” ( Animal Farm pg 16) How can anybody follow a one dimensional leader? This shows that he needs Squealer a animal, who can “turn black into white “ ( pg 16) He needs Squealer to be that relatable figure and spread his ideology, without squealer he is nothing but a mere idea. Napoleon is making Squealer his propaganda machine and that's more worse than the actually idea due to the machine being close to the people. Since Squealer is the propaganda machine to people he …show more content…
For example when Snowball was kicked out, the other animals were protesting, they did not understand why Snowball, a great leader was kicked out so Squealer convinces them “ Snowball who, as we now know, was no better than a criminal? ( pg 55) and even if the animals do continue to protest he says “ Are you certain that this is not something you have dreamed, comrades? Have you any record of such resolution? Is it written down anywhere?” ( pg 64) This is important because it shows that Squealer is playing by his strengths. He knows the animals are dumb and will listen to anything that proves leadership and power, so he uses his manipulation to convict Snowball and say Napoleon is always right. To keep the animals in check and not get any ideas from Snowball dismissal he implants “ bravery is not enough, loyalty and obedience is more important” ( pg 55) . He is implanting fear within the animal's, a minimal one but still fear. If you listen to Napoleon you won’t end up like Snowball, a mystery, criminal and the fall of the windmill. Squealer is changing the animal's perspective and morals with his manipulative nature, that is absolutely terrible and horrifying due to after the whole transition of Animalism they wouldn’t know what’s right or wrong without Napoleon’s
The character of Squealer is intriguing because he is described as a manipulator and persuader, also Napoleon’s key “spokespig”. Orwell even narrates, “He could turn black into white.” Squealer is best correlated with the Pravda, the Russian newspaper of the 1930s. Since propaganda was a key to many publications, and there were no television or radio, the newspaper was the primary source of media information. Stalin’s control over the Pravda made it give out false information so people were convinced to keep following under Stalin’s dictatorship and the Pravda also worked for Stalin to support his image as a “good leader”. In Animal Farm, Squealer abuses language to justify Napoleon’s actions and policies to the proletariat (working class) by whatever means seem necessary.
(55-56). Squealer is reminding the animals, that no matter what happens, Jones is always worse, and no matter what Napoleon does, Jones is worse, they are in a better place. Squealer knows that rhetorical questions cause the animals to think and ponder why they were arguing in the first place, proving that it is an effective strategy, when it comes to convincing the animals that Napoleon is always
Napoleon and Squealer are used to develop the themes of corruption of power and manipulation of language and express these themes by Napoleon assuming leadership after the first rebellion and secretly training attack dogs while Squealer distorts the truth and convinces the animals there are no written record forbidding trade with humans, so it must be okay. Napoleons characterizations used to express the theme corruption of power by after the rebellion Napoleon took leadership he does many things that show corruption of power. Napoleon steals milk for the pigs only and declares Snowball traitor and claims windmill is his idea. He also has his portrait painted beside the commandments.
He goes on to imply that all animals should appreciate the sacrifice Napoleon has made in becoming their leader. He explains leadership is not a pleasure, rather it is a "Deep and heavy responsibility." The syntax Squealer uses is familiar to the animals that are used to wading in deep mud doing heavy duty work. Squealer knows the other animals are not very intelligent so these words would impress the others as they know they could not carry out such a task. Squealer can be seen here exploiting one of the animals' biggest flaws: their lack of intelligence and their inability to see through his shroud manipulation. He is ensuring that none of the other animals would want to be a leader. Squealer explains that Napoleon would be happy letting the other animals make their own decisions if he thought they would make the right ones following Snowball for example, would not be the right decision as far as the other pigs are concerned. The animals are lulled into a false sense of security that the pigs will look after them. This would further increase their trust in what Squealer is saying to them. However, one of the animals say Snowball was a brave pig. Squealer goes on to explain "Loyalty and obedience are more important." This would condition the
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs are in control. Napoleon became the official leader after Snowball was chased out by the dogs. Squealer, Napoleon’s sidekick, now has social control over the farm animals. Squealer uses language to confuse and persuade the animals into thinking the commandments did not change, humans are allies and not enemies, and that some animals are more equal than others.
Napoleon’s disastrous reign only supports Orwell’s idea that revolutions always fail, tyrants are only replaced, and a new government is never established. Napoleon is a cruel ruler who, fearful of Snowball’s return, executes all the animals who “confess” to being in league with Snowball. Napoleon uses Squealer as a propaganda spreader to the other animals of the farm. Squealer tells the animals how wonderful life is on the farm, when in fact they
Squealer, the king of Propaganda was a very relevant character in George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm. Propaganda is an idea or a statement that is often false, but serves the point of supporting a cause. Mostly know as Napoleon’s Mouthpiece, Squealer defended Napoleon’s decisions and commandement. This worked every time because of the animals lack of intelligence, compared to his skills to persuade his audience. Squealer’s importance in this novel was crucial. He was like Napoleon’s back legs, and fought for everything Napoleon wanted. Squealer’s way to persuade everyone, even when the right decision was clear, proves his title as propaganda king.
Napoleon uses Squealer to lie to the other animals using propaganda. For example, in chapter 3, page 14, when the animals are mad that only the pigs get the milk and apples, Squealer lies and tells them that the pigs must have the apples and milk because they do the brainwork. He also tells them that the pigs do not really like the milk, but they eat it to help the other animals. Squealer uses fear propaganda to keep the other animals in line. On page 14, he tells the animals that breaking the rules and questioning the pigs will bring Jones
Squealer straight up lies to his fellow comrades. Napoleon urinated all over Snowball’s plan, and then takes his idea. Throughout Animal Farm the pigs become more humanlike than animals. “It was about this time that the pigs suddenly moved into the farmhouse and took up their residence there. Again the animals seemed to remember that a resolution against this had been passed in the early days, and again Squealer was able to convince them that this was not the case.”
Then, Napoleon twists the rules that the animals had created, and allowed Squealer to be his spokesperson. Squealer is described in the book as a persuasive pig with the ability to “turn black into white” (16 Orwell). Although this may be true, his arguments don’t rely on facts, and instead make the animals feel guilty, or twist their fear against them. On page 57 and 58 when Squealer was explaining that Napoleon never, in fact, opposed the windmill. He claimed that it was Napoleon’s plan all along, without showing any evidence for that to be true.
Although, there may seem like there are many different people who are responsible for the downfall of Animal Farm, Squealer is the most responsible. Like some of the animals, Squealer was a pig, and therefore this meant that he had special rights that other animals could not have. Squalor always also picks sides with Napoleon. Due to this, Squealer ends up making excuses for actions and lying to the other animals. He always had to make excuses and he also tried to make the animals think that the things Napoleon was doing were correct.
Throughout Animal Farm, George Orwell showcases the dark side of communism through its leaders. While the true dictator of animal farm is Napoleon, his rise to power would not have been possible without his mouthpiece, Squealer. However, the novel also pointedly displays how the animals were partly to blame for the own oppression. Many of the animals aided their enslavement through their own ignorance and uncertainty. However, one in particular could have opened the eyes of the others to the tyranny of their leader, but chose inaction instead.
Squealer plays a crucial role in preserving Napoleon’s power and keeping the other animals under control. For example, to push his agenda, Squealer takes advantage of the poorly educated animals who have difficulty with complex speech. Squealer tells the other animals, “Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself, but that the foods are absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig.”
but then Squealer persuades them into thinking it is not bad. This also shows Squealer is changing the rules proving even more he is loyal to napoleon and that he can make the animals believe the rules have not been changed. Furthermore, Squealer has a reputation among the animals “ the others said of Squealer that he could turn black into white.” he has this reputation because he is the only pig that speaks to the animals. (6) This implies the others know he is persuasive so he has to be even more persuasive to convince them.
In this example he tells the other animals that Snowball was teamed up with Jones to try to recapture the farm from the animals to take the rebelling out of there minds. In this particular example one of the animals says in Snowball's defense that he fought with courage in the battle of the Cowshed, and that everyone saw him with blood seeping out of him. Squealer replies to the animals by saying, "That was part of the arrangement! Jones' shot only grazed him. I could show you this in his own writing, if you were able to read it. The plot was for Snowball, at the critical moment, to give the signal for flight and leave the field for the enemy. And he very nearly succeeded-if it had not been for out heroic leader comrade Napoleon" (Orwell 80). Squealer recalls the battle of the Cowshed the way the pigs wanted it to be remembered, with as much detail of Napoleon saving the farm as possible. Although the animals don't actually recall it that way they believed it because Squealer has remembered it in much more detail than the animals did. This is also an excellent example of Squealer manipulating the other animals on the farm. He also takes the animals' lack of intelligence to his advantage whenever he can. When Snowball was in change Squealer was living in his shadow. But when Napoleon came to power Squealer also shared the spotlight. Squealer wasn't being used to his full potential under Snowball,
