Science Fiction Becoming a Reality In the novel The Martian by Andy Weir, astronaut Mark Watney is in for a big surprise when he finds himself abandoned on Mars. NASA has many new advances in technology, in the novel though some of these new gadgets don’t stray far from reality. NASA predicts humans on the Red Planet in 2030. In order to get there we need faster, more improved technology. Some of the mechanics mentioned in The Martian have been, or currently are being created by NASA to one day send us to Mars. The three basics to life are shelter, food, and water. These basics may be easy to fulfill on Earth, but on Mars is a different story. The Hab is what Andy Weir named the shelter that the astronauts of the Ares mission lived. This
‘The Martian’ is a science-fiction novel written by Andy Weir. The story follows an astronaut who goes on a space expedition to Mars. The main character, Mark Watney, is the botanist and engineer on the mission. During the whole of the book, Watney, is very sarcastic despite the hard times that follow. There are also some minor character including Watney’s crew; Beck, Johhansen, Vogel, Martinez, and their commander Lewis.
The main character in this book was Mark Watney, who was left behind on Mars. He was presumed dead after a dust storm. Culture involves many different aspects in our society. The book The Martian describes communication, law, clothing, food, and freetime, which are different then in my culture as I explain in this paper. Mark Watney has a different method of communication than what
The Martian is arguably one of my favorite books because of the fantastic tone and character development. The Martian follows Mark Watney, a scientist who majored in botany and mechanical science. He get stranded on mars after a dust storm knocks out communications with NASA and the rest of his crew leaves when they believe he is dead from shrapnel in the storm.
Andy Weir never meant for his book to become a smashing hit turned into a movie. The Martian takes place on the planet Mars with astronaut Mark Watney stranded on the deserted planet. Mark has a hole in his stomach, no communication with NASA, is left with no choice rationing his food to save his life. In this edge-of-your-seat story, Andy Weir uses suspense as well as humor to make living on Mars seem a little more bearable. Andy Weir originally wrote the novel The Martian for his science blog readers with added elements of humor + suspense to create an award winning novel. Before becoming a bestselling author, Andy Weir was just a science blogger who wrote The Martian for his science blog readers, andnever dreamed of his novel evening going
On the surface, The Martian is a sci-fi drama about an astronaut stranded on Mars. Mark Watney was assumed dead during an extreme sand storm after sustaining life threatening injuries and damage to his space suit. The rest of the crew evacuated back to Earth, leaving Mark. However, he is able to repair his suit and return to the base, where he begins a series of scientific excursions to keep himself alive for the four or so years until the next Mars expedition, which is his only hope of rescue. Mark learns to grow potatoes in his new home, he creates water from scratch, and rebuilds various space ship equipment. This all sounds ridiculous and unrealistic, but entertaining. Since it is a science fiction novel, none of that is surprising. What
Following the successes of the abovementioned missions, NASA has many additional missions planned for the future, specifically in the prospect of establishing a human settlement on Mars. In fact, National Geographic stated in their article, “Future of Spaceflight: To the Moon and Beyond”, “NASA has an exciting new vision of future spaceflight - the return of humans to the moon by 2020 in preparation for visits to Mars and possibly beyond” (National Geographic). If mankind is slated to return to the moon as soon as is predicted, it can be reasonably inferred that humans will set foot on Mars not long afterwards.
Visiting Mars is even harder than that, with a whole additional set of problems. We can probably visit Mars in the next 20-30 years, but colonization is something on a much larger scale that we really don't have the resources available to do, unless we're willing to make substantial sacrifices, and continue those sacrifices since an off-world colony won't be anywhere near self-sustaining. The Moon will likely be the first bases in our lifetimes, and possibly Mars. Serious colonization of either isn't likely for decades at
The Martian Mark Watney in the novel and in the movie Adapting successful books into movies can be rather difficult, as most movies don't always succeed in staying true to the original text. However, there are some movies that manage to stay true to the book, as well as add some of its own elements, making the movie appealing to all audiences, and very interesting to watch. Such an example is the 2015 movie The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Matt Damon as the protagonist. The movie is based on Andy Weir's book of the same name.
Tension, humor, and foreshadowing are some examples of elements that readers will find in The Martian. In The Martian, astronaut Mark Watney is left behind on Mars. Because of a dust storm, Mark's teammates believe that he is dead and left him behind. The Martian is a science fiction book that gives readers an idea of how people might be able to colonize Mars and gives readers an idea of what space is like. The Martian has an author that self-published his book, and who used humor and foreshadowing to keep his readers engaged.
Is set on Mars apart from a couple of chapters back on earth Mark also goes to different locations on Mars for example he takes a 3,200 km journey across Mars to try find a site of a different Mars landing, on this journey Mark goes through canyons, craters and other different terrain across Mars. The theme of the book is survival with a touch of comedy throughout the novel.

Earlier pre-supply drops at the Ares 3 site had provided the crew in advance of their arrival with essential items for their health and well-being as well as equipment to conduct their duties, experiments and research. The Hab, the living quarters for the crew, was one of the items that was dropped earlier as well as the MAV (Mars ascent vehicle) which would enable them to return to the orbiting Hermes
The novel, The Martian, has an effective ending which includes intense action along with continual hardships. The author really did a great job of creating an ending that included resolving problems which plagued the main character throughout the entire story. The main character, Martin, was part of a space crew sent to Mars to determine if the planet could be inhabited by humans. Martin was sent as a botanist, or someone who figures out how to grow food. Each crew member had an important job to do and all of them were needed to make a successful trip to Mars and back. When Martin was left behind when the crew thought he was dead, he had to problem solve and all alone figure out how to survive. His skill was growing food, but to stay alive he needed to do so much more than grow food. Throughout the entire novel the reader
