Growing up I knew one day I would be a part of a science fair. From watching television shows like Arthur, or The Magic School Bus, and reading dozens of books, it was always a dream of mine to be a part of one, and maybe even win. By the time I entered the third grade I was finally old enough to participate in an actual science fair. I titled, my project “Water You Saving?,” it explained how we as a community can save water, because at the time California experienced a massive drought, much like this year. I researched different methods about how people can save water, except the only example I can remember is that 90% of toilets are extremely inefficient and waste gallons of water everyday. My family and I took tours at the Lawrence Berkeley …show more content…
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the things nightmares are made of, the panel of judges, they were passing through and leaving dreams in their paths. When they arrived at my booth, my knees were shaking, yet somehow I answered the questions confidently and clearly. I felt on top of the world. After the judging process came the awards ceremony. My mom started filming as soon as the speaker began to announce the awards, we felt very confident that I would walk away with something. Third place went to a project about different types of dirt, obviously my project had to be better than that. Second place went to a project about plants that listened to music. At this moment I couldn’t control my excitement, I thought for sure I had won first place. But then the unthinkable happened, they announced first place and it went to a Coke and Mentos experiment. Stunned doesn’t really quite explain it, I thought there must have been some kind of mistake. Tears welled up in my eyes, my mom stopped filming and hugged me telling me how proud she was of me. I wanted to disappear, just leave the world
One new addition to Science National Honor Society at school that I spearheaded is "This Month in Science". The central purpose of this activity is to share out different discoveries or improvements in science that interest us and spark meaningful conversation and interest in science in general. Different board members have shared innovations in biotechnology, space exploration, or even new apps that give advanced warnings for earthquakes. This has been an excellent addition to our monthly meetings since it provides an opportunity for me to speak out about things that really interest me, such as improvements in Wendelstein 7-X or the sensationalized "new bond type", a Rydberg molecule. As my favorite facet of Science National Honor Society,
Dear 8th grader, you are going to science nine? Well if you are you will need to know a few things about science nine. First off science nine isn't that tough, although others may say it is as long as you do your work and turn it in on time you will have an easy year. Also science nine is like math once you know how to do it you are set. In order to do well in science nine you must pay attention to what's going on and don't slack off, your hard work pays off.
According to article, “In a high-quality program, there is a focus on developing healthy and strong human relationships (p. 40). The program takes place in Condor Elementary School. They used the cafeteria to give them a snack, and make Woven Baskets for children in Protective Services. They had plenty of space to do their project, there were many tables and benches for them to openly do their work, as well as move around. They had a 12-child/2-teacher ratio, which facilitates the supervision of the children. They provided all the material (had plenty of them). They also had board games, plenty of art supplies, and books. In addition, they were provided with outdoor physical activities.
I think that the homemade lipstick is going to be better than the store bought lipstick because you know what you’re putting into your lipstick and there is no added chemicals that can be harmful to you.
Sorry fellow reader, I know all I've been writing about is forensic but it's part of my life. So in forensics this weekend I won a blue ribbon. I have no idea why I won a blue ribbon, but somehow I impressed the judges that bad. Any way it was hard to get a blue ribbon I had to add more moves and more expression. The first judge was pretty nice, but then when it came to the second round I was scared of the judge. During the round I keep thinking my number was 21P1 but my number was actually 31P1. All the kids stared at me the whole time, even when I was just sitting in my chair. Then we got on the bus to get our ribbons. We all got our ribbon Yasmeen didn't want to know what she got sowe closed her ears and eyes and then told her she got a
I do science fair because I love to invent. From designing, to programming and troubleshooting, I enjoy making new things. When I fix a strenuous bug, I feel accomplished. The tougher the bug is, more the satisfaction I get when I resolve it.
I learned so many things from this. I now know that anything I put hard work and dedication into I will get something out of it. I’m now motivated to do so many more things in life. Too many just winning a dance award is silly, but to me this was one of the most pivotal moments in my life. Knowing that my mom and dad were proud of me and my whole family was proud of me showed that they will always have my back.
“You all look so pretty!” Our moms shouted as they bursted into tears. We took pictures then got into the limo. When we walked into the cafeteria and my jaw literally dropped. Everything just looked to pretty. All the tables decorated in white. It almost looked like a dream. Alex took my hand and guided me to the dancefloor. We danced the whole night until all the votes were in. I crossed my fingers in hopes that Alex and I would be the winner.
When I was done I realized what group Hope had put me into as she turned her back to me. I was emotionally knocked down so hard I knew this was going to ruin this day I’d been looking forward to. I tried to tell myself that maybe I did better than I thought and I could still get first chair. The judge came out and told us our chair placements. He stated, “I will read the names starting with first chair and ending with last. Hope…”. For a few moments I completely zoned out as I couldn’t believe she beat me for first chair and even more shocking was that not only did I not get first but I got third. This was one chair back from the previous
My science fair project is about acid rain. Acid rain is destructive according to news and I wanted to know how it worked. I've done research about acid rain and proved that it was harmful to the environment so I wanted to find out how to make it less harmful. This lead me to the question “what happens to acid rains acidity level when it goes through different materials?”
The topic is the differences between bar soap and synthetic detergent. In this experiment the scientists will be testing if detergent remove stains better than soap or it's if the other way around. The independent variable will be Dial liquid soap and Tide detergent. The dependent variables will be the degree of cleanliness after washing the stains off and the unit that will be used are photons measured with a spectrophotometer. The constants are going to be: same amount of soap being used, same type of fabric (white shirt, brought from the same store, same price and brand.) during the will also use the same amount of water in order to wash the pieces of shirt and they will be left drying
Specific purpose statement: To persuade my audience to take action in order to conserve one of the most finite and precious resources we have in the U.S.
Of course I was joyous for her accomplishment, but that meant that I hadn’t won. After the hours of work that went into my entry, the fact that I lost my first contest was a massive dissatisfaction. I felt that I had no talent and that maybe my friends were becoming better and I was leveling off with my talent; I felt that I should give up on art. This few days of disappointment were far from easy, but after my grief came a spark of light. I realized that one contest shouldn’t determine the sum of talent I have, and that just sitting around wouldn’t get me anywhere. It became time for me to stop sulking and start making art again, but this time with motivation and persistence. After this moment, I became happy with my art and built up the courage to enter another contest. This time I had unexpectedly won, and my lucky streak has continued. With commitment came my best work, and it was all because I faced and defeated my worst fear, losing the talent that I most loved. From a time we are brought into hopeless darkness, we can learn to brighten up and shine our way out with our best
The pineapple is one of the leading products in the Philippines, as it thrives in tropical climates. However, the pineapple peelings have low commercial value and are therefore merely thrown away, contributing to the Philippines waste problem.
My heart was pounding, the ballroom was silent and there I was standing in the top two on the Miss Teen USA stage. All of my hard work and dedication had paid off in that moment. As I was standing there hand in hand with Miss California Teen, I felt like I had been there before. I had dreamed about this moment but never expected it to really happen. Strangely, I had a sense of peace – I knew something big was about to happen, and that my life was about to change. The crown was placed on my head, tears ran down my face, and I took my first walk as Miss Teen USA.
