Poetry isn 't just those long sonnets you had to analyze in high school. It’s a verse, almost like the author is talking directly to you, telling you their story. Emotion pours out of poetry, just as if you were pouring water into a glass. It may get a bad reputation because of the somewhat uninteresting Shakespearean poems, where the language is difficult to understand and difficult to enjoy. Poetry is broad, and can be almost anything rhythmic. There is no topic poetry has to follow. There are no guidelines for poetry. Its just creativity pouring out of the author.

Poetry is a lot of things to a lot of people. Perhaps the characteristic most central part of poetry is its unwillingness to be defined, labeled, or nailed down. Poetry is the chiseled marble of language. If you really want to know what it is, read it carefully. Pay attention. Read it aloud. Now read it again. There is your definition. Because defining poetry is like grasping at the wind – once you catch it, it is no longer what it used to be. Two big poets known as Kendrick Lamar and Maya Angelou during their times have been very successful in bringing light to these situations with their poetry.

There are many different forms of poetry, such as a haiku, sonnet, free verse, and acrostic. These different poems can be silly, dramatic, emotional, or romantic. Poetry is an important part of literature. Even if you are not an avid poetry reader you have probably heard of famous poets such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, and Edgar Allan Poe. In their poems they contain messages of hope, nature, love, and many other things.

Similes and metaphors can take two unlike objects, such as a potato and cinderblock, and if done the correct way use them to describe how Abraham Lincoln dealt with scoundrels. Poetry is beautiful. Before I learned about poetry, I understand that poetic are rhyme, the words are soft, using the metaphor, symbolic and also saying indirect way or some secret in. After I have learned about poetry, I understand that just a meaningful conversation, a few actions or some experiences might be a poem. We don’t need to be rhyme, we don’t need to be secret in or we don’t need metaphor, symbolic too much to be poetic. Because of the reasons, I define the word ‘poetic’ with the simplest way that is every words or situations can be poetic and it is just depend on the people who look at as a poetic or not. So, it is not actually different with my daily activities. There are many reasons that we learned in the class.
