I believe I should be selected for the Schulich Leader Scholarship because I have been academically successful, demonstrate leadership capabilities, and believe that my dreams and creativity will allow me to paint the future with bright colours, for myself and others. My experiences make me unique from anyone else, and I hope to do myself justice in six hundred words. If exceptional grades and numerous excellence awards are to indicate anything, I have succeeded academically thus far. However, such achievements are only possible because of my work ethic and determination. I pride myself on submitting my best work, pitting myself against my past performances. I remember my tenth grade English class; I was writing essays every week. I took every critique from my teacher and considered it for the next piece. Experience I gained from that class carried over into eleventh grade, where I achieved the highest English grade I have ever made. Even now, I look back at my older essays to help me write, so I know what works and what to avoid. Perseverance through school and desire to improve have carried me well, even through activities outside of my education. Since sixth grade, I have been a program assistant in two skating clubs, helping to deliver Skate Canada's …show more content…
I saw that he was uncomfortable, so I asked him how he would like to be helped. He told me that he wanted to hold onto my hands, and so I let him. Then I asked him to try pushing me with all his might and his face lit up like the sun. With a surprising amount of strength, he pushed me halfway down the ice before I told him that I would let go of him. As soon as I let go, he stumbled but then regained his balance and was soaring down the ice. This was one of my first successful attempts at teaching a skill and it was instantly gratifying. The smile he gave me has become a treasured
This English class was the best English class I have ever had. There were no tests, vocabulary quizzes, or in class essays, which made the class less stressful. Before this English class, I was afraid that I would not enjoy writing many essays or writing so many words in one paper. Afterwards, essays have become something that is not so much my favorite task in the world, but it has become more enjoyable to an extent. Professor Sullivan’s class has taught me to formally write a research paper, to analyze a book through responding to different quotes from the story or novel, to understand magical realism, and to understand my own passion for school and how much effort I will be willing to put out in years to come.
I believe I should be awarded this scholarship because I have great leadership and many other great characteristics. I helped raise awareness of obesity in our county to help in getting our percentage back down. I mentored younger children that came from low-wage families on why it was so important to eat right and get an adequate amount of activities, as well as rest each and every day. I did this by using the "GO, SLOW, WHOA" program to make it easier for kids to understand what foods are "go" foods which you can eat as much as you want, which foods are "slow" foods which are foods you should only eat every now and then, and which food is "whoa" foods which you should try to avoid this foods when ever possible. After we presented our presentation
While there are undoubtedly thousands of students across Canada who are worthy of receiving a Schulich Leader Scholarship, only a handful of those thousands can be selected to receive the prestigious award. That minority is composed of students who would make great Schulich leaders, and I believe I could be one of those individuals. My experiences in different areas of my life are what have shaped me into the person I am today; namely, these experiences consist of my academic endeavours and my involvement in extracurricular activities. As a result of these, I have become someone who can compete for the Schulich Leader Scholarship and for the countless, significant opportunities such an award offers.
I believe I should be selected for the Marguerite Gottenberg History Scholarship because of my passion for education and the impact I believe I can achieve in the classroom after getting my degree from Boise State. I am currently studying History Secondary Education and German at Boise State. I plan to get my teaching endorsements in history and German and teach at the high school level.
I am greatly honored to be among the elite group of students who have been considered to be chosen as members of the National Honor Society due to an exemplary demonstration of leadership, scholarship, service, and character. To be chosen, one must show that they have attained all of these qualities through their hard work in school, as well as in extracurricular activities, and are continuously striving to improve both their school and their community. I believe that I have exhibited all of the required characteristics that define both a scholar and a leader to my teachers, coaches, family, peers, church leaders, and members of my community.
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
Being a high school student in the tenth grade things a bit hectic all the tests and book reports I have to do I always get caught up in my school work. Since my school life consists of nothing but essays, keynotes, benchmarks and free response questions. Never anything less than teachers pressing on about double spaces, sentence patterns and “Where to put the semi-colon.” I have never really noticed that they fail to teach or lecture me about unique writing skills until I got into this class. “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” That quote was from Napoleon Hill and it means more than enough to me because I thrive everyday to succeed in life and over the years and through this class I’ve learned, Growth and success are the key things. I have learned that if you put effort into all you do that you’ll be surprised with what the outcome may be. That you can start now because you’re never too old or too young to learn how to succeed and have a successful life.
After a grueling first quarter, I was completely miserable, with terrible grades, low self-esteem, and no end in sight. I was hanging on to the hope that there would be some epiphany moment, a moment where suddenly my writing soared, along with my grades. That change did happen, but not all at once‒ it began during the third quarter, when my teacher, Ms. Boynton, asked me to stay after class, along with five other students. She asked if we would each be interested in participating in The Atlantic and College Board Essay Contest, in which we would each submit an analysis of a famous American speech. I was truly stunned that she had chosen me over so many other students in the class, since I had felt so lost for so many weeks, but it was exactly what I needed as motivation to keep on improving my writing. As I worked closely with her on my contest submission and other class work, I came to realize how much she cared about me and wanted to help me succeed. With that being said, she never made it easy; she continually pushed me, knowing that I could always do better if I set my mind to it. Last September, I began her demanding course with the intention of purely surviving, not necessarily thriving, but that
If there was only one scholarship and four applicants, I should be chosen over the other three applicants because of my three core values: hard work, leadership, and service. Working hard is about having a mindset that you will work harder than anyone to achieve your goals. Leadership can be shown in many different aspects. One can be a leader in position, personality, and academically. Organization is also a quality of leadership. Leaders always encompass a frontal position especially in seating and stance. As a two year director of the Hertford County High School Drum line, my
The reason I am deserving of this scholarship is that, I am persistent and have the ability to put in all the hard work it will take and follow it through to achieve my goals and dreams. I believe in myself that I can achieve my goals and dreams, and I believe that this scholarship will give me that foundation I need to build a better self and enable me to become a person who will make a difference in this world.
As the semester comes to a close, it is always interesting to look back and reflect on the events and opportunities my English class has given me throughout my first semester as a whole. At the beginning of this semester it was evident that I was feeling uncomfortable due to the adjustment that I was going through as a student moving to college. It was very difficult expressing myself through my writing since I was nervous about good impressions and my good grade. While this class was one of the most difficult courses that I have taken this far, it has become quite evident to me that I have grown a substantial amount as a writer and as a person; Especially, when it came to explaining my ideas, writing academic essays, and making arguments.
I believe I should be awarded one of your scholarships because I believe in taking advantage of every opportunity that the scholarship will bestow upon me. I am a student that believes in working hard, being a positive influence, and giving back to the community. Your organization and I share these core values and I would like to take our vision further by using this scholarship to advance my education as well as an opportunity to improve the lives of those around me. As an immigrant from Nepal, I have had to work hard my whole life just to survive in America. Working multiple jobs while attending school is a tough challenge that I face but I believe that if one works hard their dreams can come true. Many people from my community give up
I have been writing since I have been in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my thoughts in order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a sense of recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writing to be as simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is more to it than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever endured, but I have somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all requirements. First in the essay, I will discuss my experiences in the English life that I’ve taken so far up until college. The second part will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and properly citing my sources used in the papers.
Today I would like to extol the crucial importance of academic success, and the fine qualities it entails. Today on this stage, I would like to not only show my story of academic success, but also how it has inherently moulded my personality and my perception of myself.
When good students turn in an essay, they dream of their instructor returning it to them in exactly the same condition, save for a single word added in the margin of the final page: “Flawless.” This dream came true for me one afternoon in the ninth grade. Of course, I’d heard that genius could show itself at an early age, so I was only slightly taken aback that I had achieved perfection at the tender age of 14. Obviously, I did what any professional writer would do; I hurried off to spread the good news. I didn’t get very far. The first person I told was my mother.
