School Uniforms Is Wrong

Having school uniforms greatly decrease one’s way to get bullied. “Perhaps most importantly, a uniform means students don't have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn't so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. Potential bullies have one less target for their insults; it's hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you're dressed exactly the same...” (Should Students Have to Wear School Uniforms?). With the same as gang violence, having uniforms does not get rid of bullying altogether. With my experiences in both non-uniform and uniform enforced schools, I saw far less bullying in schools with uniforms. Student should be free to wear whatever they want. Students have shown how strong and considerate they are of others. Students have learned to not judge a book by its cover. The first reason why schools should not require school uniforms is because they don’t allow you to express yourself or be yourself. Students generally express themselves through their clothing and if there is school uniforms it takes that choice and creativity away. Students should be given the choice to pick what they want to wear as long as it follows the dress code regulations. A dress code should be enough, as long as students follow the dress code regulations there should be no need for uniforms. Also when a student can’t be expressive through their clothing then it can cause a decrease in their self confidence over themselves. So, school uniforms should not be required at schools, it cause students to be self conscious and takes away creativity.

First, school uniforms take away the students freedom of expression. The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees that all individuals have the right to express themselves freely. This points out, that by making everyone wear the same clothes, it takes away expressing who they are. Your clothes say a lot about who you are as a person and what personality you have and when you take that away, you take away the chance to express yourself.

Students also face this dilemma of choosing their clothes going to school. Some struggle to look different each day while others worry on being bullied or judged on what kind of clothes they have. With a uniform policy in place a kid that often gets bullied can wake up knowing that he and the most popular kid in school is wearing the same thing. I believe that schools have uniforms because students had a higher bullying rate when we were able to wear regular clothes and it helps people more worried about themselves, when everybody is wearing the same thing.
