I started my first day shooting at the age of eight. I continued working with the club until I was 14. I have made it to nationals twice in my life, but only medaled once. That was this last summer, July 3rd, 2016. I qualified for nationals by competing in matches every Saturday from the month of April to May. I went to nationals that following July. When I first stepped into the hotel, I could smell the fragrant food from the restaurant. All I heard was people talking, checking in with the desk, having conversations, and all the people that were new were in awe. I remembered the hotel like I have been there 100 times. After we checked in it was the last day we got to truly enjoy the city of Rogers Arkansas until the match was over. Now it
This world seems to be falling apart, going crazy, or even taking people away out of the blew. One of the main reasons behind that is school shootings. It tends to happen when people think they are taking their kids into a safe environment. School is supposed to be safe, full of kids talking to their friends, teachers, and maybe petting the psychologist’s dog just saying “hi” to the dog. For the longest time school shootings have been climbing, occuring more and more. Everyday, bad things happen which show how humanity is cruel. (table1, Mass Shootings Per Year) this graph is showing how the numbers every year change. Since the year 1982 and 2016, the numbers really do change drastically.
In “Tragedy and the Meaning of School Shootings”, Bryan Warnick, Benjamin Johnson, and Samuel Rocha (2010) seek to uncover the symbolic meaning of these heinous crimes as well as argue the need for tragic sense in education. They first direct the reader’s attention to the ritualistic side of school shootings. They often follow the same pattern of a narcissistic social outcast contemplating suicide, then finding a violence coach who convinces them to use rage as an outlet. Their sacrifice of human lives allows them to become higher than God or any other being. The authors also suggest the the heightened security at schools may also play a role in the increase of school violence. They consider whether or not changes to these policies would cause
Connecticut, Georgia, Colorado, Virginia, Oregon, Michigan, and Tennessee are the sites in which some of the most viscous school crimes have occurred. In this day and age it seems as if school isn't a safe haven for America's children anymore. School shootings are on the rise more than ever in today's society with kids as young as 9 years old committing these gruesome crimes against their classmates and instructors. To see this type of action among kids is heartbreaking and sad. People wonder what makes a child want to kill another or how did they get their little hands on such a powerful weapon. Most of the young killers today find it very easy to gain access to guns and bomb making material via the Internet. By using the internet
Assassinations can be an accident, as well as assassination being made purposely. The general claim made by Catherine Saillant in her work, Defense in Oxnard school shooting case seeks refiling in Juvenile Court, is that teens are being tried as adults. More specifically, Saillant is claiming that it is incorrect for district attorney’s to charge teens as adults because teens should be transferred to a Juvenile Court. Although, not all cases should be put in a Juvenile Court because there are cases that juveniles need to be tried as adults. Maeve Fox, the lawyer of Lawrence King states, “Shooting someone in the back of the head to me is an execution-style murder...He [Mclnerney] thought about it. He planned it. And then he did it”(Fox).
School shootings have become well known around the world due to the coverage by the media. . These shootings are a serious concern and have parents constantly concerned about their child’s safety when they are at school and also have students thinking twice about any unusual or suspicious behavior. The media appears to play a large part in school shootings and it is important to analyze the deviant behaviors of the shooters in these horrific instances and the fear they create in schools. Does the media play a large part in school shootings or does the media play a large part in the sensationalism of school shootings and the fear they create both in schools and with parents?

School shootings are a tragedy, it’s just about impossible to say it’s not. Children are one of our most valuable resources as they are the future of this country and this world and we put so much time and energy into them it would make sense to keep them safe. The thing I don’t understand is why we protect our president with guns, our congressmen with guns, celebrities with guns, sporting events with guns, jewelry stores with guns, and yet we protect our kids with a gun free zone sign. And then when there is an emergency we call someone with a gun to solve the issue. What scares me and I think everyone needs to be aware of is that according to School Guard, a company that is specializing in technology to help reduce response time to school
Some of the most infamous acts of terror on American soil took place on numerous campuses across the nation. School shootings, like Sandy Hook and Columbine, have started to become an ordinary event seen on the news, which causes a numb reaction in the hearts of countless Americans. According to an article written by AJ Willingham and Saeed Ahmed, from CNN, “...30 deadliest shootings in the United States dating back to 1949, 18 have occurred in the last 10 years.” In all of these cases, the news will give the attacker the attention they so dearly crave and always giving the same justification “they were mentally ill”. This one phrase reflects on all of those who also are affected by mental illness, does this make them corrupt like these terrorists?
I keep seeing people post on how they are terrified, or scared? Well.. what are you scared of exactly? War? Because that's happening. School shootings? Because that's happening. Pipeline? That's been happening. Terrorism? Definitely alive and well. Going broke due to health insurance? Mm yes. Corruption throughout the system? Already there. Police officers being murdered? Yep, that's happening. Bullying? Check. Loss of jobs? We've got that on lock. A tanking economy. Yep. Being discriminated against for your religion, political views, sexual orientation, race? That's been going on. Rape, murder, violence, riots.. all going on and has been.
Mass Shootings are among the most controversial topics talk about in modern day society, and this is due to the apparent rise in shootings over the past couple of years. The nation has witnessed some of the most gruesome shootings in History such as Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. From the aftermath of these shootings, a solution was found to prevent such things from happening which is allow concealed-carry weapons on college campuses. It is said if there are more guns on campuses, the chances of a gun man taking out more innocent lives are less likely due to the amount of people with guns. Despite this sound solution of concealed carry on college campuses, the reality is that it causes more problems than it solves, and there are better solutions to this problem at hand. But, what exactly is the true nature of school shootings, is it actually a true threat to our education system?
Arizona is among one of the least restrictive states in the United State when it comes to gun control laws. Arizona allows for anyone, 21 years or older, who does not have a criminal record and therefore is not a prohibit possessor, to own and carry a weapon openly or concealed without requiring a license. Even though there is an age limit, there is no assurance that someone underage is still able to acquire a gun, and therefore risk the lives of others. Rage shootings are among the main causes of school shootings either because of relationships, arguments, or even bullying. Victims range from students, teachers, staff, to police officers.
There has been an average of one school shooting every week in America since the Sandy Hook shooting. On the fourteenth of December, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, 20-year-old Adam Lanza not only killed his mother in her home, but also twenty children and six members of staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This was to be the third deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The Huffington Post reports that as of 2014, there have been over 200 school shootings. These have resulted in at least 94 deaths and over 156 serious and minor injuries. And, with an issue as emotive and contentious as the murder of school children, the question has been frequently asked: why do school shootings happen?
Research in school shootings have been administered in many categories, including sociology, psychology, and etc. past studies, and direct later studies in school shootings, offers a sociology stand point for understanding the differences of school shooting incidents, including rampage shootings, mass murders shootings, and examining the mass media dynamic of school shootings; as well as presenting a combination of causes said in the research, including those on the individual, community, and social levels. April 20, 1999, the date then will always leave a horrifying mental scar, this was possibly the worst day any kid could ever imagine. I was in tenth grade at the time and just like every other day I was acting up and talking to my friends. In third period around 11:20 A.M. an announcement comes over the loudspeakers blaring the message, “lockdown, lockdown, this is not a drill.” I panicked as well as most of the school did, I heard girls scream in fright and everyone rushing to get into a classroom. I had no idea what was going on at the time until I heard gunshots from two different guns and explosions scattering the school halls. I was scared for not only my life but all other students and teachers of Columbine High School.
