Schools should not overlook these reasoning as to why hours should start later on in the day.
Students complain about how tired they are during their morning periods. Schools should start later according to Dr. Ross and Mr. Philips. Students feel very emotionally distress early in the mornings. It’s only reasonable to think that concentration would be better after enough of time to actually wake up.

Dr. Ross has researched on this issue since 20 years ago and has come to a conclusion that the later you attend school better high scores on test you will receive. Mr. Philips started his research at his school as he saw that most of his students were not doing too well in their scores. Mr. Philips came with a program for students to start school at a later hour and to continue their day like a regular school day. The test scores showed the drastic change they increased 83 percent during the program started. Mr. Philips then started to study with a major in this area who is known as Dr. Ross. They later teamed up and know started a program that is used in about 43 states. The students who participate in their program not only have outstanding scores but they have been offered many scholars.

The school day should start later in order improve students’ mental health. Survey results have consistently indicated that middle level and high school students who start school at 7:15 a.m. or earlier obtain less total sleep on school nights due to earlier rise times in comparison to students at later-starting schools. () This is just the beginning of the negative impacts that early start times have on students. By starting school at a later time, students’ brains will function better, their grades and learning increases, and will be more mentally stable.
Yet still, parents and students are pushing for later start times in schools to accommodate to the natural schedule. Starting school at 9-10am rather 6-8am would drastically increase a student’s performance in school and would allow for more productivity and higher grades. Having a later school start time can increase a student’s academic grades and awareness. Thirty-three percent of teens say that they fell asleep in class. Even though this is a small portion of teens, falling asleep in class shouldn’t even happen once. Also, this means they are getting less than what they need,(eight to nine hours of sleep a night). A school needs to pack as much teaching time as they can in a day, but if that means waking up a student at a time so early, then there's no point.When a student doesn’t sleep as much, students are not aware as they would be if they had a good night’s rest. Going to bed at 2:00 in the morning and waking up at 6:30 AM to go to school is a nightmare for anyone. Unfortunately, this situation is far too common in today’s schools. Typically, people enjoy receiving an extra hour of sleep, even an extra five minutes of sleep. Teens are just one group of people who enjoy sleep. It has come to my attention that kids are going to school tired therefore looking like zombies. A good reason for this is that they are waking up so early for school. These reasons listed are why students should start school a little later in the morning. School should start later since students are not getting enough sleep, having health issues, consequently are getting severe and students are being tardy due to lack of sleep.
Many young students, from the U.S. and abroad, have to wake up at an earlier time in order to get to school. What many of them do not realize however is the effects it can have on their body’s development. Sleep is seen as unnecessary or even pointless to many young children, but as they get older, their appreciation for the act becomes widely apparent. Lots of educational systems all over the country still start school at a time earlier than 8 o’clock in the morning. The developing students who have to wake up at such an early time don’t realize that they shouldn’t have to wake up so early in the morning, and that is because their bodies simply don’t function properly at a certain time and with a lack of sleep. I believe that school start times for students that are in primary and secondary school should start later because doing so will have a positive effect on their overall physical health as well as their psychosocial development.
Many parents and students believe that school starts too early,I agree with them school hours should be pushed back.But some may argue why would this be necessary,or what can this change affect them. This change is beneficial for the students,in many ways such as conduct,grades,and tardies that is why pushing back school one hour will help and I will tell you how.
Traditional school schedules affect students sleep patterns by forcing them to wake up early when their body wants to sleep, which leads to sleep deprivation (wol.iza.org). Again, sleep deprivation can lead to lots of negative mental and physical health issues. Npr.org says, “Teenagers are getting six to seven hours of sleep a night, and they need eight to ten.” Because most students do not become tired until around eleven or midnight, they are unable to get the right amount of sleep because the school start times are so early (wol.iza.org).
Schools should start later because when schools start earlier students fall asleep in class and they are missing information that they need in order to do well in school. Students should be able to get more sleep in the morning so that their brains are ready to learn and that they can stay focus and pay attention to what the teacher is saying and so that they are doing well in school. A big reason school’s may enjoy having a later start time, is because it can contribute to the school’s success. The sleep researcher mentioned earlier, Wendy Troxel, said in her presentation that when kid’s are woken up by an alarm, they are literally robbed of their dreams. Dreams are associated with learning development. In order for student’s to use the most of their brains, they need to be receiving the right amount of good quality sleep. It is often said that the early bird gets the worm, but that is not the case for school start times. Many schools across the country have adolescents wake up in the wee hours of the morning to get ready and go to school. Evidence from complete studies suggests that teenagers are seriously sleep deprived. Waking up so early is not always beneficial, although some people do believe that it is efficient. School start times should be later because it improves adolescents’ health and academic performance, and it can increase the safety of the community.
In discussions of whether or not schools should start later, one controversial issue has been that it gets in the way of parents work schedules. People who believe that it’s too much of an inconvenience claim that it’s never too soon to start getting used to an early schedule. On the other hand, those who believe schools should start later assert that it’s much better for a student's concentration and overall health. My own view is there are more benefits than negatives and we should really start to consider such a change.
