school counselors assigned to that specific school. The meeting will address the purpose of the study and the floor will be open to any questions the employees of the school may have regarding the study. This process will continue until the research team has been given permission by 24 high schools (8 in each socioeconomic area) to ask their students to participate in the study.
Once all 24 schools have been selected, the research team will give the schools a flyer to hand out to all of their female students that meet the ages constraints of the study (13-17). The flyer will have a time and date (Friday at 5:00pm in the gym) that potential participants and their parents can come and hear about the study and what participants will be asked to

Parents and potential participants will also be informed that their results from the CDI 2, as well as their GPA, will be used in confidence. Nobody outside the study will be able to access this information. During the information session, potential participants will be informed that they will each be paid $10 for completion of the CDI 2. There will be an opportunity for potential participants to sign up if they are interested in completing the study after the information session commences. Interested students should have their parents/guardians leave their name and contact information (phone number and email address) After all the names have been entered in the simple sample generator, there will be a random selection from each school. The names selected will be contacted and asked if they would like the participate in the study. A member from the research team will first call each participants parent/guardian using the number that was provided at the information session. A member of the research team will also send an email telling the parent/guardian that their child has been selected and ask if they are still interested in being in the study. If the parent/guardian or …show more content…
All of the students who had a score that represents depressive symptoms will be in one group, and the students that did not have a score that represents depressive symptoms will be in another group. After separating the participants into two groups (those with depression, and those who don’t have depression), members from the research team will contact the schools again to get the participants GPA. Members of the research team will analyze the data from the CDI 2 and GPA. Those students with a GPA lower than 3.0 (B average) will be considered to have low academic achievement. Those with a GPA above a 3.0 will be considered to have an acceptable level of academic achievement.
Demographic Descriptive Analysis The data will be analyzed to identify any demographic trends. Socioeconomic levels of the participants will vary from low to medium to high since the schools selected for this study are from various socioeconomic areas of the state. This group of participants is representative of the general population of Maryland, the schools from which the participants attend are all scattered throughout the state (rural, city, suburb, poor, middle, wealthy) to control for location differences as well as socioeconomic differences.

The school counseling profession has evolved over time into a collaborative model. This collaborative model involves teachers, school administrators, parents, counselors, other school personal, and community stakeholders. The first guidance program was developed in 1895. In 1926 New York became the first state to require guidance workers to be certified; in 1929 New York became the first state to have full time guidance workers. In 1952 the American Personnel and Guidance Association (APGA) was established, now known as American Counseling Association (ACA). In 1952 The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) was established. In 1958 the National Defense Education Act was passed, which increased training and
If permission is obtained, participants’ home addresses will be retrieved from their children’s case files, letters of invitation as well as written informed consent to undertake semi-structured
According to Galloway, Conner, and Pope (2013), “All of the schools in [the] study were college preparatory schools in advantaged, upper middle class communities and had elected to participate in the study as part of the larger research and intervention project” (495).
To begin our research, we will randomly select 200 students, ages 12-16, within the Yakima School District. Our external validity should be low because we can only generalize our findings to the Yakima School

Three hundred and seventy-five students will come from the blue ribbon school of Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, KY and the other 375 will come from Holmes Middle School in Covington, KY, a non-blue ribbon school. The grades of the participants will range from sixth to eighth grade. The study will consist of all the students in each grade from both high schools.
The different procedures that were used to conduct this study were surveys, which were administered via computer which assisted self-interviews. These computers were located in a classroom setting with about approximately 30 students. The procedures that CASI executed were shown to reduce biases and increase validity, which would allow the study to be conducted once again and receive similar results. The participants were recruited from three low-income high schools in the southeastern United States. All of the students in 7th and 8th grade were recruited except for those who were in special education classroom. From these participants who were considered for the study, only 82.4% of them provided a consent form concerning the study. From those 900 students, 32 of them were absent from school that day or simply declined participation.

The surveyors will approach the parents awaiting consultation at the respective clinics. Upon conducting the survey, the surveyors will have to seek permission from the caregivers to conduct the survey. They will also need the parents’ consent to follow up with the progress of their child for a period of 2 months. The surveyors will need to get approval to have the parent’s contact details so as to collect the data necessary for the study.
The study contained 100 participants between the ages of 18 to 22 from a small liberal arts university in central Texas. They were recruited from the cafeteria, through fliers, and by word of mouth on a volunteer basis. As an incentive for participating in the study, participants were given the choice of either adding their names to a raffle to win one of 25 different prizes, or they were given two extra credits points towards a psychology class. Participants filled out a prescreening survey for eligibility before participating. If participants were eligible to participate in our study, they were contacted to schedule a time to go into the psychology lab to run the study.
Participants will be heavily recruited by researchers with the support of the schools administration and teaching staff. Researchers will connect with the principals of each high school; explain the research study, intended outcomes, and how they could potentially benefit from knowing the results of the data. With permission, flyers will be posted around both schools advertising the study, the eligibility requirements, as well as the monetary reward for completing the study. To incentivize the study students will receive a fifty dollar gift
During the ten year period in which the study was conducted, a total of four surveys were administered. The first survey, issued during the 2007-2008 school year, was conducted to gather baseline data. At baseline, the students surveyed were 14-19 years old. The second survey, administered in
