My Master’s Degree in School Counseling will give me the foundation to work in the community and make an impact. I plan on starting my career working in low income school and becoming familiar with the family structure and the resources available to the families in an educational system. I believe becoming a part of the educational system will allow me an opportunity to reach families unique fashion. Educational settings allow for contact with both parents and children giving way to a more well rounded view of the family unit. This perspective strengthen the trust between educators and families thus making individuals more respective to addressing issues such as financial literacy. By exposing families to resources like family assistance
Pocahontas was the daughter of Chief Powhatan, the chief of the Powhatan Indians. When English settlers came from the Mayflower, she contributed significantly to the early survival of Jamestown. When Captain John Smith got captured by Powhatan’s men, Pocahontas rescued him from getting executed. Following this event, she started to frequently visit Jamestown. She became an important supplier of food for the colonists, and also she became an informer for the colony.
Upon completion of my Master of Arts in School Counseling my goal is to work with elementary or middle school ages in groups and with individuals for improved personal and learning outcomes of students in their educational success, and to foster personal growth by giving back to the community. From my experience I hope to further continue my education into specialty areas of trauma and Mindfulness Based Stress Reductions (MBSR), and possibly leadership as time and opportunity permit. I am committed to a lifelong learning process. I will engage in my work well into my years and continue to substitute after
Also enjoy working in a partnership with my families. I provide children a diverse and developmentally appropriate environment that allows them to meet their individual needs. In my program I help families achieve their goals. For instance, if a parent tells me that they want to take English classes but don’t know how to enroll. I find resources for them in the community and help them to accomplish their goals by providing the information. In the past I had a parent who wanted to further her education but did not know what to do. I provided her with information regarding enrollment, fafsa, and made her an appointment for an assessment. I informed her that the library has computers she can use in order to complete her application.
In schools all over the world today, School Counselors are crucial to assisting students, parents, school administrations, and the community. I believe that creating an effective counseling program that supports the counselors’ role in education will foster a close interaction between students and counselor to achieve success in their personal/social lives, academic achievements, and college readiness careers.
As a professional school counselor, I will have both the ability and responsibility to assist children and adolescents in the imperative task of taking responsibility for growth that nurtures self-esteem and effective functioning. I must accept responsibility for improving educational practices through continuing my own education and participating in professional development activities. Providing children with a positive school experience paves the way for a more successful academic career. This is done in a professional manner that fosters personal growth and academic success regardless of race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical or mental ability.
In the wake of 9/11, waterboarding was a widely used technique to encourage suspected terrorists with suspected ties to Osama Bin Laden to reveal information about Al-Qaeda. While the practice of waterboarding is now banned by the United States, it was widely practiced during the Bush administration. The movie Zero Dark Thirty depicts waterboarding as a critical torture technique that led to the name of Osama Bin Laden’s personal courier and ultimately the death of Osama Bin Laden (Bigelow, 2012). This paper will seek to determine if the action of waterboarding suspects in order to locate Osama Bin Laden was ethically justifiable.
I graduated with a degree in kinesiology under the health education, community health, and wellness umbrella. I wanted to help people maintain their physical wellbeing and believed that physical health was influenced by many internal and external factors. This idea was one of my core beliefs, but started evolving and narrowing down once I started working for the Boys and Girls Club after college. This position was unexpected, but it really opened my eyes as to how much I wanted to work with children and help children achieve their full potential beyond physical health. I initially thought that that meant being a classroom teacher and focusing on academic achievement, but teaching only further opened my eyes to how much I want to support children,
I firmly believe in myself, in my capabilities, in my skills, in my character, and in my integrity. I also firmly believe in my abilities to achieve my educational and personal goals. I intend to achieve my goal of receiving Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. I will pursue this area of study in college, focusing on the necessary course work.
Hamlet’s insanity has always been a controversial topic within literary analysis. Many individuals believe Hamlet has always been insane, while others believe that his insanity was an act he played the whole time. Ultimately however, throughout the play, Hamlet becomes legitimately insane due to the events that occur, the primary factor being the death of King Hamlet, his father. Seeing the ghost of King Hamlet is the beginning of his descent into insanity. Soon afterwards his mother marries Claudius, Hamlet’s uncle. Finally, Hamlet becomes so obsessed with Claudius that he creates a play re-enacting the events of his father’s death to try to persuade Claudius to confess to murdering King Hamlet.
In 2010, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree from University of Phoenix. I began the journey towards my Masters degree in Counseling in
It was during my senior year of college that I decided I wanted to become a school counselor. Up until my senior year in college at Penn State I did not know where I wanted to take my career but I knew I wanted to work in a school setting and I knew that I wanted to work with kids. When it came time to choose an internship site for my last semester, I chose an alternative school called Buxmont Academy in Bethlehem where I would be shadowing two of their school counselors as well as engaging with the students themselves. I got to work with these children on a more personal level, gaining an understanding of their emotions, experiences, and difficulties, as most of these children came from broken homes, and drug and alcohol related settings. I am interested in becoming a school counselor because I want to help. When I become a counselor I want to make a difference in a child’s life whether that be by simply giving them support that they might not have in their lives or helping them make changes to better themselves and their futures. A counselor has such an important role in helping to shape young children and that is something that I want to be a part of.
Obtaining a Ph.D. in counseling psychology will give me the outlet to do just that. At a young age I lost my mother to pneumonia, leaving my sisters and me distraught. Coming from an African American home, there was a stigma against psychologists. Instead of us receiving the psychological help that we needed in order to handle our loss, we were expected to cope with it on our own and that resulted in us suppressing most of our feelings. Members of my family did not see the value of going to talk to a stranger about the issues going on in our personal lives. Similar situations to mine happen often in the African American community. This experience is what strengthened my desire to become a counseling psychologist. There is a need for more African Americans in the counseling profession. African Americans should not have to question whether to seek psychological help. I want to be a familiar face so that I can contribute to African Americans feeling comfortable with turning to professional psychological
The role of a counselor takes on many different forms, and it is a very important career, because it helps people make better life choices. The personal values we have, and also how we view the world, can help shape the type of counselor we will be. I will take a self-reflective view of what I hold dear, and also explain how my personal experiences have led me to chose a career in this particular helping profession. I will also describe the differences between the professional counseling, and other helping professions, such as social work for an example. I also will look at how accreditation, licensure, and certification, are important in defining what a counselor is, and does.
Describe your educational, work, and volunteer experiences, including the interpersonal relations, interests, and special skills and knowledge you possess that you believe are necessary to enter and practice the profession of student affairs/counseling.
