During the late 1960s stories of satanic cults and abuse became common. These tales included mutilation of animals and humans under the full moon at places dedicated to Satan. The stories featured robes, candles, knives, alters and other Satanic accoutrements. Prominent news and entertainment figures reported the stories as fact. The Satanic stories became so numerous the FBI formed a task force to investigate satanic cults and abuse. Satanic Activity Satanic activity is thought to have occurred through the ages. It’s common for groups outside the norm to be accused of practicing satanic rituals. Any group could direct these allegations toward anyone they wanted to demonize. Fictional Literature In the late ‘60s a series of books with Satanic overtones became popular and made into popular films. Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin in 1967 was the first of these big bestsellers. The Exorcist by William Blatty followed in 1971, and The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson in 1977. All were all huge bestsellers and hit movies. The first two were fiction, but The Amityville Horror claimed to be true, even though there were portions of the book that are inconsistent or nonexistent with police records. Other books with satanistic themes that followed and these books set the tone for satanic abuse allegations. Michelle Smith In 1980 Michelle Smith co-wrote the book that triggered the modern Satanic abuse era. Canadian Lawrence Pazder was Smith’s psychiatrist and co-author. Michelle
The After School Satan Club kicked off its first meeting last week at the Point Defiance Elementary School, a state school in Tacoma, Washington.
In June of 1984, Richard Ramirez began his criminal career as the “Night Stalker.” Ramirez tormented the people of Los Angeles and killed at least thirteen people. He was a Satanist and he was into drugs and violence. He would break into homes and rob them. This evil person was haunting the citizens of Los Angeles and other counties in California for over fourteen months.
Even though this very monstrous man is dead, the story of his grisly murders will never be forgotten. In the year of 1960, Milwaukee, Wisconsin welcomed a new spawn of Satan. At the mere age of four, a major procedure was performed on this young child to fix a double hernia. Soon after at six years old, he moved to Bath, Ohio with his family.
There are few accounts of individuals converting from Satanism to Christianity. There are even fewer accounts of a conversion like that coming from a convicted murder. Sean Sellers, a man from Oklahoma, made history after killing his parents and a store clerk at the stunningly young age of sixteen. He was the first and only person to be executed for committing a crime while under the age of seventeen. Not only did this shocking statistic grab the media’s attention, but his sudden decision to switch religions made waves across media outlets as well.
The character Satan in Mark Twain's story “The Mysterious Stranger” is portrayed as a dreadful part of society. An outcast, and a loner, Satan represents the dark parts of the world-- the side of misery and suffering. He is the creator of the world and he makes people endure pain. Satan shows disrespect to the clay people, comparing them to flies. “We were secretly ashamed, for his manner showed that to him they and their doings were of paltry poor consequence; often you would think that he was talking about flies” (Twain 81). The lack of care and respect for the people he created shows
Mexico is an interesting country. It has a rich culture, a particular religion mixture of Catholicism and indigenous religions, and popular and mystical traditions. According to the 2010 census only 85% of the population was Catholic and 15% of other religions (inegi.org.mx). However there are many parallels cults in the Catholic people. One of this is the cult to La Santa Muerte it has grown to reach 10% of the concurrent population, and they call themselves Catholic also. Their culture is enriched by the influence of the Spanish conquest, and mixed for the different indigenous culture, resulting in a varied culture, rich in traditions, customs, architecture and folklore. Mexico is an amazing country.
Pagans are typically vilified for their beliefs, as though they are less important than those of modern day religious beliefs. The lack of understanding of Pagan beliefs has led to many misconceptions. The most commonly held misconception of Pagans is that those within the Pagan sect worship the devil. First off, the devil is a figure in the Christian religion and since Pagans are not Christians, the devil holds no place in Pagnism. The common reason as to why Pagans are mistaken for worshiping the devil is due to the fact that, as far as most Christians are concerned, if one is not worshiping their god, they are worshiping 'satan'. Personally, I believe that this misconception is out of ignorance, yet ignorance has nothing to do with it. The misconception that Pagans worship satan is a matter of the Christian doctrine. The strong Christians believe that any religion that conflicts with the Bible, and is not focused on "the one true God", is a deception and worship of Satan. One cannot educate this false accusation out of the Christian sect because it is a basic tenet of their belief system. If the person does not hold any real Christian beliefs then perhaps they can be educated. The refusal to judge other ways of life as wrong simply because they are different from one's own is simply proposterous.
The Bull of Innocent VIII is a text written in 1484 that explores many problems that are being formed by people who are moving away from the catholic faith. This document encouraged witch hunt and the killing of witches suggesting that it would be the ideal way to free humankind from such scheming. The first problem described was that they gave themselves away to sex devils (Pope, Innocent VII,1484). These devils are called the Incubus (the one that lays on top) and Succubus (the one that lays on the bottom). Incubus is known to be a male demon that has sexual intercourse with females by paying them a visit at night and Succubus is known to be a female demon that has sexual intercourse with males (Awakening, 2013).
Still, in our society, there are certain insane cults in the name of religion but they don’t have any importance in the society. So, these are considered as the non-religious cults that won’t give any positive impacts in the society. Now, here are mentioned the 10 non-religious cults that would help you to get familiar with the real facts:
“You know, a long time ago being crazy meant something. Nowadays everybody's crazy. We're not in Wonderland anymore Alice.” (Manson). American cults have been around for thousands of years. Cults can be religious, spiritual, or based on common interests. American cults have driven themselves into American culture; tearing apart families, towns, and driving people mad. The Mason Family cult, Heaven’s Gate, and The Peoples Temple are just a few of the horrific cults that have been stained this country over the past 50 years.
The 1920’s were seemingly the time to be alive. Women were beginning to express themselves, the music was great, spirits were high, and life was all about drinking. Although it may look like a paradise, it also has it's downfalls. Gangsters and mobs were running rampant, and were practically unstoppable. Picking up a beer could mean you got arrested, unless you knew how to hide it.
The case that seem interesting to me would be Adolfo Constanzo also known as the “Witch Doctor”, he was a serial killer in the 1980’s. He had religious history background since he was young. He eventually created his own religious cult as he chose his patron saint, pledging himself to Kadiempembre, his religion’s version of Satan. Throughout his life Constanzo perform ritual murders. In 1983, Constanzo traveled to Mexico City, were he recruited his first disciples. After multiple killings, he managed to evade police by hiding out in his Mexico City ranch until a 1989 raid, during which he asked his fellow cult members to kill him.
The beginning of the nineteenth century was also the start of a legendary movement in literature, known as Romanticism. Authors during this period created their own worlds by using their imaginations. Individuals no longer saw themselves a measure of everything around them, but rather as one more component of the great source of life and creativity: nature. The Romantics placed emphasis on emotions such as apprehension, terror, and awe as an authentic source of aesthetic experience, as well as the feelings that accompany confronting the sublimity and beauty of nature, especially. Supernatural elements are not present in all Romantic literature; however, the supernatural approach was an important and arguably crucial strategy for Romanticism to achieve its purposes.
of Jewish people from American society. They feel that Jews are literally the children of Satan
When someone hears Satanism they usually start to think of sacrificial ceremonies, demonic worship, and the summoning of demons. Some even go as far as to think that Satanism is associated with kidnapping, child sacrifice, and other inhumane rituals. Satanism was created to go against other religions and was made to stand out, but is not violent and is misrepresented. The truth is that the Church of Satan has, falsely, taken the blame for these unspeakable acts. As the official website for the Satanic Church put it, “Satanism is a life-loving, rational philosophy that millions of people adhere to.” (Church of Satan Archives)
