The main character in the novel The Simplicities of Cider is Sanna Lund. SHe is a fifth generation orchardist, and has some trouble along the way, which I will explain later. In my opinion I do enjoy the main character of Sanna. She shows honesty and is very up front. Sanna as well does anything to save her orchard which shows she is determined, as well as that she is outgoing. Her brother on the other hand left and went with their mom, and later on came back trying to convince both Sanna and the dad to sell the orchard.

This piece of fiction contrasts many characters with diverse morals and behaviours, in particular the two mothers of the families, Dolly Pickles and Oriel Lamb. Beneath the surface, these women have more in common than they realise, especially when it concerns gaining power, suffering trauma, their partners, experiencing loss and their home.
The chief characters of the story are Aunt Bernie, Jade, Min, and Min’s brother, mother, and step-father, Freddie. Aunt Bernie can be described as an optimistic, subservient, complacent, unmarried, sixty-year-old virgin, who worked her whole life at minimum wage jobs. Jade and Min are cousins, High School dropouts, unemployed, and unwed mothers. Both women bemoan the insecurity of the neighborhood, yet neither have any aspiration to do anything about it. Min’s
