San Francisco is a city of Uber and Lyft riders; other cities must have been an after-thought. But don’t trust my possibly-biased observation. So far, I only drove in a few cities though I sampled enough of Northern California--who needs other states when there is California, and its crown jewel city, San Francisco, the city by the bay. Known for the good food, Instagram-friendly nature scenes, mural arts, and of course, steep hills that require bravery of anyone who attempts to drive on them.
One night I had a “millennial” who said he MAKES more than most people in the city. I thought he was underage to MAKE a six-figure salary though nowadays that is quite normal for some people. We chatted, and he told me his Ferrari was in the garage, and that he was unable to whip it on the streets to show off. Yet, he still found a way to boast about his car, in a city that has garages only good for a Fiat Cinque-Cento, or, a Mr.

He rides with me in my nice car--a comfortable ride, leather seats, sunroof, and all. Even if my heart doesn’t sink deeper anymore when I drive up and down the steep hills, it does feel a sense of concern for someone who has the kind of money, to house a car for four seasons a year.
The six-figure guy also said he works as a system engineer--from home. I can’t help but think why he was overcrowding San Francisco? He should live in the burbs, and slide into the city when he feels like going out for dinner or to watch a show. The city should be left to those who depend on hail-rider twice a day--maybe more. That man reminds me there are so many people in that city, working in a culture where you get paid for 8 hours of work even if you’re really putting in four hours—and others put in 80 hours each week.
The minute he settled on the backseat, I could see he was in a rush and uneasy with the heavy traffic. I tried to soothe him jokingly, “Calm down, we will get there faster than in a
When Mexico captured San Antonia on September 11, 1842 a lot of volunteers join Texas’s army. They would all go into different companies under leaders like Mathew Caldwell and Nicholas Dawson. They coordinated their attacks by each company going after a specific city that would lead to San Antonio. The communication between the companies was by Texas’s government ordering them where to go and what to attack. For example 200 troops led by Mathew Caldwell traveled to Cibolo Creek. Cibolo Creek was six miles away from San Antonio.
The rhetorical significance of the documentary San Francisco 2.0. shows that the tech gold rush in San Francisco is bringing wealth to the city so it’s seen as a positive contribution, but at the cost of the city losing its soul. Many residents of diverse backgrounds that made the city’s culture are being evicted due to landlords’ greed to capitalize on the new tech bros that are flocking to the city to make money. Many business and artists are affected due to rent being tripled to accommodate the new residents. Technology brings progress, but it also increases class segregation because the wage gage increases. The rich are getting richer, while the poor stay the same. The city officials say the city of San Francisco benefit from the tech gold
Imagine yourself as a young cowboy that has just received a telegram from a man you met during your time in North Dakota. This man was Theodore Roosevelt telling you that he was going to resign as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and help form the 1st U.S Volunteer Cavalry to fight those rotten Spaniards down in Cuba. Being the striking young man that you are you take up his offer and head down to Texas where this new unit will be training for the harsh environment of Cuba. Training in Texas went great, you and everyone else loaded onto a train headed to Tampa Bay Florida expecting to be there in about 4 days. Just as planned you and the other members of the 1st U.S Volunteer Cavalry arrived in Tampa on time. Now is when the unexpected finally hits, the ships that were to carry all of the men and all the horses will in fact not hold all the men, let alone the horses. You sadly had to get the short straw and were forced to be one of the unlucky men that have to stay in the U.S and take care of all the
The San Francisco Chronicle called Brown "one of San Francisco's most notable mayors"who was a celebrity beyond city

The thickly populated county area of the Los Angeles is a point to study the problems of the metropolis. It is the third largest metropolitan area in the United States. It has forty-five cities, and fourteen dense areas having dense population at the central or core city, and additional surrounding territory. The Los Angeles metropolitan area thus has the most populated portion of 'Los Angeles County and parts of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.' (Jones; Wilcox, 1949)
When cities begin their journey of being gentrified, many locals become displaced. Displacement is when locals are uprooted from their homes, due to outside factors, and forced to move elsewhere. According to the Urban Displacement Project conducted by U.C. Berkeley, “Gentrification results from both flows of capital and people. The extent to which gentrification is linked to racial transition differs across neighborhood contexts... Displacement takes many different forms—direct and indirect, physical or economic, and exclusionary—and may result from either investment or disinvestment” (U.C. Berkeley). Many people are coming into San Francisco’s Bay Area because of how diverse each element is. However, according to Census numbers, between 1990 and 2010, 35.7% of San Francisco’s black population dwindled (Bliss). 35.7% of the black community within San Francisco suffered from displacement. An additional 53% of low-income households in the Bay Area are at risk for displacement and gentrification (U.C. Berkeley). This has definitely left a dent within the diversity reputation held up by the Bay Area. When such a strong large part of people leave, The City will experience a shift in culture and community. Whether, it is the real estate, the food, the different cultures, the Bay Area has always been known for being different. Perhaps, this is why so many outsiders are coming in and buying up every piece of land they can. Whether their intentions were to purchase land and
In 2016 Mercury News listed San Francisco as the third most expensive place to live in the country. Also in the top ten (number five) was the San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara area in the South Bay. The numbers helped to validate what our group believes, that it is very expensive to live here. We chose to consider the problem of the high cost of living in the Bay Area and how it has affected the area. Part of the reason that the housing in the Bay Area has become more expensive is an influx of highly paid employees. As one of the main hubs for tech jobs in the world, the Bay Area attracts small startups to huge companies such as Google. Mercury News reported that the average wage in Santa Clara County is 59% above the national average
San Francisco: The City Upon A Hill "Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn't leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?” (Luke 15:4). After twelve years of Catholic School the one parable that continues to stick with me is the Parable of the Lost Sheep. It reassures me that I will be found, even if I stray very far from what is right. Richard Rodriguez author of “Late Victorians”, writes about the lost sheep who flocked to San Francisco in the seventies to find a home, far from the unaccepting suburbs they grew up in.

California is home to seven of the fifty largest cities in the U.S. by population and rank. Of these seven, I will discuss one of my favorite cities in the world San Francisco, California. San Francisco is the thirteenth largest city in the U.S. but only coming in as the fourth largest in California after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose. As of July 2014 the population estimate was a little over 850,000 for San Francisco. (Infoplease) San Francisco is a city rich in history, lust and disaster most of which is detailed below.
Los Angeles was the first product off the assembly line of American urban planning. Turned on in the late 19th century, the city-making machine was fueled by an immense immigration of people who sought to create a new type of city out of the previously quaint pueblo. They also strove to craft the first major city developed primarily by Americans and outside of European archetypes. As a result, Los Angles is not only incredibly diverse, but also nearly impossible to define. Since it is a product of the American machine, understanding the community of Los Angeles becomes vital to understanding the United States. But to fully comprehend the present Los Angeles, one must look at the process that created it. Specifically, Los Angeles was
I live in San Bonifacio, a medium size town in north Italy. The closest city is Verona, a small city with a beautiful and important historical background, where I also go to school. Most of my family lives in Portogruaro which is about an hour and a half drive from San Bonifacio, I go there once every two or three months and on holidays. I like Portogruaro more than San Bonifacio, besides being a nicer town it has more activities and events to attend. San Bonifacio is pretty quiet, nevertheless I’m part of the scouts there and I played on the basketball team. My parents have always educated me to keep an open mind and to be a world citizen. I realized the importance of this not sooner than a bunch of months ago. I spent last year in United

We all know the big city that everyone loves to talk about and be a part of the experience of a lifetime which is Los Angeles, also known as L.A. It is one of the most known cities in California and around the world where people’s dreams come true. L.A. is best known for its beaches, entertainment, amusements, and the people around the city. It’s also known as “The City of Angels”, which is the spanish word for “Angeles”. It is the second most populous city in the United States after New York. I’ve always known L.A. as a big part of my life, being born in the city of luxury and fame. Growing up, I never knew how much of a big deal LA was until I was in high school. Being around so much popularity and seeing the opportunities that LA has brought to people was amazing to me. From the sports games, to the concerts, to the famous celebrities walking the red carpets brung so much excitement to me and I was glad to experience all of it.
